    ArmA III

Better than no Arma3 at all. Sure they can keep trying to optimise Arma2 but wouldn't you rather have those fixes with a side of graphics upgrades? I would.
  2. Yep, it will feel like BC3 for console players but us PC owners will be playing a true BF game. Bigger maps, better graphics, 64v24 players makes for a huge difference. The difference between PC v console for this game is night and day.
  3. Seeing as all modern HOTAS are programmable then it doesn't really matter what shape they come in. But if TM do release a Hornet specific HOTAS that's the same build quality as the WH I'll buy that too. $500 every 2+ years on a hobby is cheap.
  4. Probably the same reason he overclocks - he wants the best out of his system/equipment. The fact that he's already modded his Hog (that sounds so wrong) means that he's probably got it the best that he wants to see it so on to the next challenge. I used to be like that in my early days - modding, overclocking, adding hardware just to see how good I can get it. Then try all those flashy games for about 5 minutes to see the fps and how it ran. But yes, it's as he says: this will be someone else's gain. You can't lose what you don't want or use.
  5. I've set mine in the axis settings without the need for the Saitek programming software.
  6. yeah I think so - particularly since now they're developing MS Flight in house (I think) which leads me to believe that they never really intended to get rid of the MS FS series - just make it in house to control all aspects of its earnings.
  7. Posted this over at SimHQ as well. Brings back the memories. I think I've played all the games mentioned there - except the money managers. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/reviews/2011/06/history-of-sim-gamespart-2.ars
  8. I don't think you do anymore. Going from memory (and correct me if I'm wrong) but I remember seeing 2xDVI, 2xmini-DP, 1 HDMI port at the back of my 6950 giving a total of 5 screens off the one card. Crossfire will only support up to a max of 6 screens though. I know I was running my 3 screen Eyefinity off the one 6950 for a while before I got the second 6950 for CF, but still the three monitors are plugged into the primary card so there's still a whole lot of ports to play with. I've been wanting to get an extra monitor just for Helios but don't have the desk real estate to do it.
  9. No, you don't need TH2Go anymore. Modern graphics cards allow you to plug in multiple monitors. However for 3+ monitors you need (mind you I'm talking about latest graphics cards) - 1) If you want a single card solution, you need either a 6950, 6970, 6990 or gtx590 - they've got the requisite ports on the one card for you to be able to plug in three monitors. Usually it's 2xDVI (normal monitor port) and the other one you have to get a mini-display port adaptor to DVI converter. Be aware that not all mini-DP adaptors are created equal and don't necessarily support multi monitor setups or don't support it well (you'll see anomalies). Best to do your research when buying one. 2) With any other Nvidia card besides the gtx590 you need SLI. Of course with the ATI equivalent Crossfire, you can easily plug in however many monitors the dual cards give you. Eyefinity is part of CCC. All you need to do is plug in your monitors correctly and the option will be in CCC for you to set it up and configure. You don't need to pay for anything else.
  10. I don't think it will even try to take on EVE. I can't view the site at work - it's blocked (bloody work filters, what do they expect me to do all day?) but I'm surmising that it's more an action combat space game where you're either a Raider, Viper or Raptor. While fun for a bit dunno if that's enough to make a game worth playing months down the track. But Ali did mention RPG elements so maybe it's like a traditional mmo with a BSG skin?
  11. I never understood the software programming argument - so long as the software allows me to map the correct keys to the button then it's doing its job. Press a button and it should do something accordingly: pretty simple. I don't need a button to drop my flaps 1/3 while calculating next year's tax. Just give me a mapping feature and a shift multiplier and that's all I need and in today's age any/all joystick software allows you to do that. I think in end it really comes down to which HOTAS do you like flying better. I seriously doubt that most people are going to go out any buy an expensive HOTAS just on how the programmable the software is. To answer the OP: you're fine with the WH purchase. Like I said, any modern day HOTAS will allow you to program what you need for future titles.
  12. It's the aircraft not the game that has that sense of flying. Just like an older classic car that will pump out the torque and give you the better sensation of the road rather than the most tech advanced Mercedes out there. It's the same for Camel v Viper. One you've got nothing but the wind on your face and and you're hearing it streak past and see the ground moving as you fly along. The other you're in a bubble surrounded by avionics where the altitude is so high all you see of the ground is one big mesh with nothing but blue around you. The sensation of flying will always be different and much, much more pure for an older aircraft. The real art of a game like RoF is that they modelled it so well. However that doesn't detract from modern aircraft. I'd still rather fly the Viper over the Camel. As to FM - they're in no way equal. One you have actual data to play with the other is only good suppositions that is done well. In terms of fidelity of FM they definitely aren't equal. HOWEVER - now with the new career mode, in terms of immersion RoF is clearly superior and the better game. Hats off to them. Hope ED are looking and taking notes.
  13. Well apostrophes for one. Name the last truly innovative and original game out there. Minecraft maybe? Everything else is just the same type of game with "woop paint" on it. That's why we have the word "genre". With that mentality we may as well continue playing A-10 Attack! instead of the latest and greatest (atm).
  14. Once you go Track, you'll never look back.
  15. Nice setup. You might want to put a rug or something underneath your chair with that nice hardwood floor you've got.
  16. Have to agree nothing beats FSX for realism when it comes to ATC, landing/takeoff procedures and civilian traffic. Doesn't the FSX community even has it's own version of a mmo with people being ATC and pilots flying to their virtual airports? I never really got into FSX because it's not really my cup of tea but when I heard this it got me intrigued.... but not enough to give up combat sims.
  17. So how'd you get FTNIR working perfectly? What are your settings, curves, tweaks? What did you do basically to answer the question rather than just troll. I'm asking honestly cos I wouldn't mind getting FTNIR to work just as good as a camera + LED setup where the tracking is precise.
  18. Your only legitimate gripe is the base plate not being screwed in correctly and lack of rudder control (which is not even the WH's fault - you knew that it didn't have rudder control when you bought it but then moan that you can't afford rudders, so who's fault is it really?) Ofc that doesn't stop you from mapping rudder functions to the WH. Everything else is supposition. In the end though we can't convince you to keep something you're not happy with - cos you'll always be looking for something to go wrong with it.
  19. The only major hurdle stopping me is the inability to use footpedals and HOTAS without resorting to something like PPJOY or something else. I think it's Crysis that only recognises the one joystick. Plus I'm a bit over just playing mech quake. Wish they'd release a story driven campaign like in the early MW series. You start out with a pissy Locust/Jenner and work your way up. Ah the memories.
  20. You're right. I hadn't thought of this: the bigger picture. Maybe I've just gotten so used to being niche that I've forgotten what it's like to be mainstream. :music_whistling: With that in mind, I'm all for it happening.
  21. Somehow I doubt it. TiR is a very specific product designed for a very specific market. Kinect is a specific product designed for a different market (general population for consoles). So unless MS decide to fully step into the PC head tracking sphere, Kinect will go along the path of all the other NP competitors, like Free/Face Track. Kinect will simply be nothing more than another alternative. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more competition here but let's face it - TiR presents a user friendly, works out of the box solution for those that can't be bothered with setting up and tweaking. Lastly I most certainly don't want MS dominating this area of the PC market. NP has it's morally questionable policies (but seriously it's business) but I would infinitely choose them over a MS dominated market. You're just swapping a minor demon for the devil himself.
  22. Start advertising it! We need links with info and to put in some donations. Need the app name so we can tell others to search for it on i(ck)Tunes.
  23. This hits the nail on the head. I'm a supporter of TIR mainly because I'm too damned lazy to work out the other alternatives. As a more mature gamer I just want the bloody thing to plug in and work. The less time fiddling with components the more time I have actually gaming. Shave off a decade or so, when I was still curious about computer tech and getting that odd piece of hardware to work, and had tons more time, I would have jumped at perfecting Face/Free Track but not any more. Just give me something that works out of the box.
  24. it works well in AmrA 2. While the mouse movement is quick that also moves your gun and point of aim. Head tracking actually moves your head pov around while keeping your gun aimed in the original direction you had it pointed. Adds to the reality immersion. For instance if I'm told to cover a road, I'll kneel, point my gun down the road and just move my head to see where the rest of my squad are moving to. If something does pop up, I'll just give covering fire down the road instead of accidentally hitting the friendly I was looking at. Also while running to an objective, i can turn my head left and right to see if my squad is with me or not while still running in the same direction. Lastly nothing beats actually leaning to see around a corner instead of pressing Q/E.
  25. I'd like to think so too but the realist in me knows that NP aren't a multi-billion dollar company like Microsoft or Sony.
