Did you try the undesignate button?
-
What issues in particular annoy you? I'm finding I leave it off for everything except A-A engagements currently.

It sounds like you used to need to download the torrents yourself, but that has changed now. The updater still uses torrents to download faster, but handles it internally so you don't need a separate torrent client.

Did you double check that the axis hasn't been mapped? I had this happen to me a few days ago but checked my axes and found it was bound, I assumed I had set it and it drifted from not having a big enough dead zone.

As I understand it the PvE missions you are referring to are user-made, not made by ED? It seems extremely complicated to build such a mission that is reliable though, otherwise there would be more of them, and with some of the features you mention. I'm really hoping the new dynamic campaign system will help with this when it is eventually released.

Currently if you have multiple versions of DCS installed (eg release and open beta) there are 2 complete copies of everything, which wastes up to ~120GB! At least everything is only downloaded once then copied though. I expect MAC to be a completely separate product, perhaps with the same download-saving method if resources are shared with DCS.

MAC doesn't interest me, but I can see how it could work. New players or players without the desire to invest a lot of time can get MAC and enjoy it casually. Some will get the DCS bug and start getting interested in the other aircraft that are available in DCS. FC3 Aircraft give them a way into DCS without jumping straight into a full fidelity module. Again, some will want more aircraft like the hornet and tomcat and will get into DCS. As long as MAC is promoted in the right way and it is made clear about the different levels of fidelity, the point system in MAC could work as a way to get players to progress up the levels of difficulty by reducing the price of modules. The shared multiplayer will expose MAC players to the other aircraft available in DCS, taunting them with goodies they can't have unless they invest in DCS. And we all know you can't just get ONE plane... there is always "just one more"... :megalol: As long as focus on DCS is not reduced, it could be good for ED's business.

Radar guided missiles predict an intercept point ahead of you based on the speed and distance of you and them, and will attempt to meet you there. Some modern ones are smart enough to avoid the ground if you are diving, but older ones will just attempt the intercept anywhere (even if the predicted point is underground). IR guided missiles don't know your distance or speed, only the angle to you, so most guide based on proportional navigation or some variant of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_navigation I don't know how accurately they are modelled in DCS relative to real life, but I would guess those two basic principles are used in game.

I find one of the most important things is finding the point on the throttle where your speed stays constant. Match speeds with the tanker before connecting and find the throttle position where your speed varies only a minimal amount, then get comfortable with your hand in that position. You will still have to constantly adjust up and down around this point, but it really helps knowing where the neutral point is to be able to do fine speed adjustments.

It's a true north vs magnetic north issue. The F10 map shows true, the HUD and other instruments show magnetic. Except the radar is also true I think...

I wouldn't call it a "bug", more likely it is one of those situations where gameplay wins out over realism. Does anyone really want to sit in a multiplayer server waiting for people to dump fuel before landing? Also if they do plan to make it realistic somehow, I would imagine that is faaar down the list of priorities at this point.

AMRAAMs (and all the A-A weapons in F/A-18 ) launch with the gun trigger, not weapon release. Is that the problem?

Best Controller For F-18 and F-14
Py replied to Teriander's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You are correct that the current version is an A-10 replica, but as I mentioned, if you are willing to wait a bit they are making a replica of the F/A-18 stick that fits on the same base. But we don't know when it will be released, so if you want it now that's not an option. I believe the throttle from another company is based on the F/A-18 throttle so that might be a better fit for the throttle part. Sorry I forget which one, a Saitek maybe? I don't know what would be similar to the F-14 HOTAS. -
Best Controller For F-18 and F-14

What's your budget? A lot of people like the Thrustmaster warthog HOTAS (myself included) but it's pretty expensive. It seems sensible to wait for the F/A-18 stick for it which is coming "soon", but nobody knows when "soon" actually is. You won't get a 1:1 mapping for the throttle controls, but flying multiple planes that is impossible anyway. -
I really hope it's not one of those "grinding" systems that take all the fun out of everything. Like "get 10 kills with guns for 1 point!", "get 100 air to air kills for 1 point!", "fly 1000 nm for 1 point!".

GBU12 Bombing with the Poor Man's T-Pod (AGM65E)
Py replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
It's talking about F10 inside the communications menu. In the video it is not the standard JTAC, he is using a mod that changes how the JTAC works (the standard one is pretty awkward and time consuming). With the mod, there are additional options in the communications menu which are accessed with F10. -
You could probably do it by making a symbolic link from the default location to a location on your other drive. Google "symbolic link" and your windows version to find out how.
-
Just a thought, have you checked in the windows "USB game controllers" settings if it lists 1 or 3 joysticks? Off topic, how do you find the FSSB R3? Worth it?
-
If you don't mind a bit of learning that would definitely be my suggestion. The F/A-18 gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of what kind of missions you can do. And the "community excitement factor" means that there will likely be many single player missions and campaigns for it. As for transferrable knowledge, although nothing is identical the "mindset" of the cockpit design will make it feel reasonably familiar. MFCDs, the UFC, bombing modes etc. There are plenty of tutorials, and being under development is kind of an advantage as there is less to learn all at once.
-
Well what do you want to do with it? Is your interest just for BVR? What are your feelings about the A-10C? Did you fully learn the systems? If so did you enjoy mastering them? If not, why not? Takes more time than you want to spend? Do you just want to casually jump in and fly sometimes, or you want to fly a lot? These kinds of things will shape your decision and our recommendations...
-
Get the standalone version, fewer problems all around. Stable or open beta, depends on the modules you want to fly and how impatient you are :) I'd say use the open beta unless you can't stand minor bugs sometimes.

I can confirm, it seems to reset when jettisoning anything (I jettisoned another LGB). Track attached. laser_code_rst_on_jettison.trk

Don't trust it! It's just a placeholder until real IFF is modelled, but for some reason it is unreliable as you saw. It can change in both directions, (and multiple times) including just after you launch at someone...

TM HOTAS Warthog profile with gizzy TARGET scripts (DX codes)
Py replied to Rabso's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
There's also a category "Special For Joystick" in the controls that has some extra options, they may cover the settings you need.
