Also, I tried disabling MSI Afterburner but the results are the same I have a feeling that with today's mini patch the stutters are reduced but still noticeable, but I have to do more testing
-
thanks @Flappie! is this what you're lookign for? in this section the fps dropped from about 70 to below 60 and gpu utilization from 90% to <70% I took a video (this screenshot is from that), if it can help I can share it. The stutters are more of a micro-stutters but there are noticeable PS: I updated to 2.7.2.8165.2 and I had NVIDIA overlay on to capture the video but I don't think that it makes any effect on the stutter

Hi everyone, I am experiencing since the last update (2.7.2.7910.1) some pretty bad stuttering when flying on certain parts of Syria map. This wasn't happening with 2.7.1. although I had the same fps "dips" but without any stuttering (link here - and link here) In particular I experience this issue when on the ground in Incirlik and flying in the near vicinity of the base. This is very evident on a custom mission I am running at the moment with some decent amount of static objs and AI units around. Funny thing is that before 2.7.2 there wasn't any stuttering (albeit with the same fps dips) I tried the following today to isolate the issue but with no success: - updated Nvidia drivers - updated Windows 10 - disabled Nvidia overlay - disabled/enabled full screen mode in DCS (used also ALT+enter) - reset all nvidia control panel settings to default - disabled windows dynamic wallpaper slideshow - using custom windows pagefile as suggested by @Flappie - disabling custom windows pagefile - reducing preload radius from 90000 to 81000 I am getting good fps (all settings on max except SSAA which is off) around 70-80 on the ground, 110+ in the air however what's concerning is the GPU utilization which spikes from 80-90 down to 60 and then back to 80. This is synchronized with the stutters and it's reflected on the fps which goes from 70-80, down to 50 and then immediately back up to 70. This happens on all views (F1, F2, etc) even with the jet stationary on the apron with engines off (using the F-18 in this particular mission). CPU utilization hovers around a steady 15-17% (all cores). Once flying at some altitudes in other parts of Syria - no issues. Other maps - no issues. My specs are in the signature. Any thought or solutions to get rid of this annoyance? I can attach logs or tracks, just need to know exactly what's needed. Thanks

Love the new Caucasus textures! However when flying during winter season, the crop fields north of Nalchik have the same "snowy" pattern repeated very close which looks a bit odd and artificial: Summer is better however you can still make out the pattern Any chance to randomize a bit more those textures? Thanks short track (default A-10C II free flight mission) Caucasus summer.trkCaucasus winter.trk

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
Snakedoc replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
The topic of discussion is the fps hit by upgrading to 2.7 while maintaining the same settings as 2.5 (although some of the same settings of 2.5 have now different impact in 2.7) Reducing the resolution naturally will give an fps boost like in every other game/application ("less" rendering to be done by the CPU/GPU) To further sustain the argument of this topic, in 2.7 if you lower the resolution you should still see an fps boost, which in your case you don't. This is bizarre and could be an indication of a poor optimization of 2.7 -
Thanks for the quick patch! Good job ED

An update to my previous post: I couldn't replicate the same crash despite trying multiple times after... maybe it was a one-off fluke due to changing in game settings in between 2 missions? Now I am re-loading the same mission with the "fly again" button and also going though the main menu successfully without any crashes. Let's hope it was just a one-off
-
Still here... *no mods* Syria F18 free flight mission: - Flown for 10 secs - ESC - Changed SSAA from 1.5 to OFF (glitching as per patch notes) - Reloaded same mission (from main menu, not "fly again" obv) - Crash NB: I updated to the latest OB then ran a slow repair before launching DCS. FXO & Metashaders 2 deleted. New NVIDIA drivers 466.67. full screen off & other settings as per Flappie instructions log attached dcs.log dcs.log.old dcs.log-20210602-172110.zip debrief.log

I am experiencing this crash since the start of this 3d and I have a 3090 + 10700k (full specs in my signature) I don't think it's hardware related
-
Thanks! I'll give it go no idea why it is set at <16gb.. it's a new pc build (last December) with a fresh DCS install and haven't changed any component since except my gpu

here they are. *edit* re-upload (it was messy before). -923 & -802 had a large track file in them, had to delete it due size constrain upload dcs.log-20210419-103802.zip dcs.log-20210415-151923.zip dcs.log-20210418-090242.zip dcs.log-20210429-185348.zip dcs.log-20210429-180418.zip dcs.log-20210428-195226.zip dcs.log-20210427-221736.zip dcs.log

FYI 466.27 is known to give a performance hit on some builds. *edit* my bad I meant 466.11, haven't tried the .27 which was released on the 29/4. I had 466.11 until yesterday and DCS was crashing constantly on second load of the same mission with those drivers. Rolled back to 461.72 and game is still crashing. I did get some of the performance back though (not quite at the same level of 2.5.6 but a small improvement anyway). Link here to the other 3d: MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7 What I found out recently is that reducing my preload setting to 100000 and deleting all the custom NVIDIA control panel settings for DCS seems to have reduced the frequency of the crashes. Now I can sometimes load the second time the same mission without issues, however it still crashes every now and again. The mission I am testing this with is a custom F18C mission in Syria with some AI and many static units. Maybe RAM usage is linked somehow to the crash? This mission is quite RAM intensive (as is Syria by default). Reducing the preload could have an effect on RAM usage and therefore reducing the frequency of the crashes? I am sending the crash log with the prompt every time it happens. @Flappie if you need it I can also post them here

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
Snakedoc replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Quick update on the FPS issue on my system Following the below actions which I had done before: - Windows updated - Clean Saved Games folder - Deleted temp folder - Slow repair Today I: - Rolled back to NVIDIA drivers 461.72 (used DDU for clean install) - Removed all custom NVIDIA control panel settings for DCS Gained some of the FPS back on top of the small gain I had before. Again not quite the same performance as 2.5.6 but a small improvement nevertheless. The biggest difference with rolling back the drivers is that I am not experiencing anymore some "dips" I had with the latest drivers (466.11). Occasionally I would experience a drop from 60ish to 30 and then immediately back to 60 together with a GPU % utilization drop from 98%+ down to 75% and then back up to 98%+. This does not happen anymore with the "old" 461.72 drivers. The behaviour above is (was) clear on a mission I am playing with the F18C in Syria when taxing around Incirlik AB. (custom mission, some of AI and many assets parked around) just my 2c -

Nice one! I'll try to roll back on 461.72 to see if I can also have some improvements. Did you notice any changes when playing non-VR? -
MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
Snakedoc replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
So I did the following procedure in the attempt of fixing the crashing issue on launching the second mission and also to see if I could get some performance back: - updated windows - reapplied NVIDIA control panel settings for DCS - renamed DCS saved games folder - deleted the Drive:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\*Terrain name*\misc\metacache\dcs folder (repetead this for all the terrains I own) - deleted the Drive:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS.openbeta folder - performed a DCS repair - check all files (slow) - launched the game and re-applied all settigns as I had before with 2.5.6 - copied the Saved Games\config\input folder for my custom bindings - copied the logbook.lua file from the backup folder - copied the autoexec.cfg custom file from the backup folder On the same Syria F18C free flight mission I saw a minor improvement of about <10fps compared to what I was getting when I first installed 2.7 Not at the same level or better than 2.5.6 (at least for my build) but is a step forward. For info I am getting an average of 75fps with dips around 58 and spikes to the 90s. The fps drops happens when I look sideways over the aicraft wings I should add that the above procedure seems to have fixed the game crash when launching a second flight link *edit* it didn't Forgot to mention: I am testing all of the above in 2D mode with my 34' screen (3440x1440) @ max settings except SSLR and SSAO. Haven't touched VR yet Have to say that despite the loss of fps it does indeed run very smoothly and it looks stunning, especially on Syria at maxed-out settings -
an update on my end. I did the following procedure: - renamed DCS saved games folder - deleted the Drive:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\*Terrain name*\misc\metacache\dcs folder (repetead this for all the terrains I own) - deleted the Drive:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS.openbeta folder - performed a DCS repair - check all files (slow) - launched the game and re-applied all settigns as I had before with 2.5.6 - copied the Saved Games\config\input folder for my custom bindings - copied the logbook.lua file from the backup folder - copied the autoexec.cfg custom file from the backup folder so far no crashes on launching any mission multiple times. I have tested only the preloaded mission that comes with each module (e.g. free flight) in all the terrains I have. I did a combinations of A10C II, F16, FA18, FC3 on caucasus, PG and Syria on the same game session. I'll update here in case I encounter any further crashing *update* loaded for the second time a custom mission (A10C II BFT Campaign mission 2) and it crashed again log attached dcs.20210415-151923.log dcs.20210415-151923.crash dcs.20210415-151923.dmp

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7

I'll try to rollback my driver to that build and I'll report back -
@Flappie I think XPACT mentioned that even deleting options.lua seems not to be working

Interesting. Which nvidia drivers are you using? I updated mine today just before DCS -
MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
Snakedoc replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Same here, noticeable with a 3090. F-18C Free flight in Syria (with new clouds) I get around 60-70fps while before it was around 90 (all settings maxed out, res is 1440p widescreen) I noticed that trees shadows now render with a "soft edge" when flying closer to them as opposed to before where they would stay with a "sharp edge". You can clearly see the transition from the "low res shadow" to the "high res shadow" when approaching the trees. Didn't have much time to test today but I haven't changed my settings from what I had in 2.5.6 to see which one in particular has this "feature" BTW 2.7 with new clouds + Syria looks amazing -
Same here, loading any second mission will cause the game to crash

Thank you @Rudel_chw, I didn't know it wasn't implemented yet. That's a bummer, I hope they'll add the support soon. guess I'll have to use them via my Saved Games folder until then -

I should add that if I copy your files in the /Saved Games/DCS OpenBeta/Kneeboard folder it works just fine (both .png and .jpg) however I'm looking to have those charts visible only when you are flying specifically on Syria map, hence my question regarding the directory for Syria map
