Sorry to hear you had such rotten luck with that Cougar. If there is another production run, I'll be able to send you the stock gimbals being replaced.
-
Yea, need to round up a few more people that are serious about getting this mod so that he can justify another production run.
-
I don't know what they originally sold for, but I think it safe to assume it will be at least somewhere in the $400 to $500 range. One is basically getting a new Cougar stick with this mod and without the issues of the original Cougar or the Warthog for that matter. You can get more info on the mod over at the Cougar World site: http://cougar.flyfoxy.com/mods.php and at the frugalsrefugees site I linked in the OP.
-
FYI, there is a possibility that there will be another production run of this excellent mod for the Cougar. There is a thread over at the fruglasrefugees forums for those who would be interested in obtaining the mod. So far not quite enough interest to encourage Ian to actually start the production yet. I'd suggest that anyone interested head over there: http://www.frugalsrefugees.com/showthread.php?205-Nxt-mod-orders I have the mod installed on one of my Cougars and am hoping to pick up a couple more. It dramatically improves the handling of the joystick.:)

A Different Warthog vs. Cougar Question

Unfortunately, no. You can't use TARGET to program it. This page provides more info: http://www.realsimulator.com/html/tusba.html -
DCS World TARGET profile for TM Cougar and Warthog + MFDs
Ssnake51 replied to Home Fries's topic in Thrustmaster
Thanks much for the detailed explanation. Unfortunately my photo-editing skills are even worse than my targeting skills. I didn't even understand some of the terms you were using, but after a little googling found the program paint.net. Looks like it has the editing tools you were talking about. Will give it a try. Again, thanks.- 2261 replies

DCS World TARGET profile for TM Cougar and Warthog + MFDs
Ssnake51 replied to Home Fries's topic in Thrustmaster
Home Fries, Don't mean to hijack your thread, but how do you make such great MFD printouts? Have been working on some TARGET profiles for a couple games and the only way I have found to make the MFD printouts is Thrustmaster's online program. Am getting tired of looking at the same green background. Not to mention the lousy text formatting in TM's program.- 2261 replies

A Different Warthog vs. Cougar Question
Ssnake51 replied to MacFevre's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Problem is that it wouldn't be worth upgrading the Cougar stick with just the hall sensors. Too many problems with the stock gimbals. One might as well go ahead and spend the money on a new Warthog stick. -
A Different Warthog vs. Cougar Question
Ssnake51 replied to MacFevre's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That is the one negative I forgot to mention regarding the Uber2NXT mod: they are damn difficult to obtain right now. Ian, the fellow who made that mod, stopped production a while back. However, it looks like he is going to do another production run shortly. If you look at post #5 above you will see a link to a discussion regarding the new batch. -
A Different Warthog vs. Cougar Question
Ssnake51 replied to MacFevre's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
MacFevre, As you indicated, an unmodded Warthog stick is better than an unmodded Cougar stick. A Cougar with the Uber2NXT mod is ergonomically much superior to the unmodded Warthog, IMHO. There is no bump in the middle and none of the 'stiction' many complain about on the Warthog. But you can most likely get the Warthog stick for a good deal less money than you'd pay for the mod. -
A Different Warthog vs. Cougar Question
Ssnake51 replied to MacFevre's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Not sure what has happened to Cubpilot, but no one has been able to contact him for some time. Ian is considering another production run of the Uber2NXT mod for the Cougar. Apparently he has located another source for the Hall Sensors. Info on that can be found at: http://www.frugalsrefugees.com/showthread.php?54-Nxt-Mod -

Oh NO!! Warthog World Gone?
Ssnake51 replied to wingclip's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sad to say, looks like that site is gone for good. There was lots of good information on it too. I really miss it. -

Quite agree with you regarding the quality of CH products. Never had a problem with any of their joysticks over the last 15 years I've bee simming. But they really do need to upgrade their product line. Unfortunately I haven't heard any reports that they plan to do so.
-
No. The flight models are not the only problem with it.

Deleting the contents of the Saved Games folder did the trick. Thanks. Was able to open DCS World and run a training track. No blue screens. For the record, I am using Nvidia beta driver 301.24. Am reluctant to uninstall it at this point because it does make a big difference in FSX performance.
-
I didn't installDirectX on my first installation attempt because the DirectX box was not selected, but I did on my second installation attempt. Went ahead and installed DirectX you linked to. Still have the problem. DCSWorld hangs at 53% and then I get the message - "DCS (Beta) has stopped working." Don't know if this helps but the detailed problem report in that message says: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Launcher.exe_DCS (BETA) Application Version: 1.1.2.0 Application Timestamp: 4f98ee92 Fault Module Name: DXRenderer.dll Fault Module Version: 1.1.2.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 4f98ed20 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000000000002acfb OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 666c Additional Information 2: 666ce2a65518efcfa15899bbf46512d1 Additional Information 3: 031e Additional Information 4: 031e7ae1ca1960134d1032f849f1a90b Really seems strange. Have no other problems with my system I am aware of. All my other sims and programs run fine. The blue screen that popped up after exiting the program when I played the training video was the first blue screen I've seen since I installed Windows 7.

The application was unable to start correctly
Ssnake51 replied to neroroxxx's topic in Installation Problems
Are you running on a Mac like neroroxxx? I'm on a PC and am having a very similar problem. Did manage to run DCS World one time but now am unable to run it. -
Interesting problem here. Installed program last night and ran one training mission for the P51-D. Closed program and shortly thereafter experienced the dreaded BSOD. This morning I tried to start DCS World but it hangs at 53%. Everything seemed to go smoothly with the initial download and install. Is there something else I can do or is an uninstall and re-installation the only option at this point? Just an update: Uninstalled, re-downloaded and reinstalled. Unfortunately am still unable to start DCSWorld. It still hangs at about 53%. I've attached the dxdiag file. DxDiag.txt

i7 2600k system....... problem
Ssnake51 replied to joey45's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had that happen on one of my builds: a bad power supply. It was a brand new power supply so it took me ahwile to figure it out. Hopefully, that is the problem here as it is quite easy to remedy. -
Who's getting the AMD 6990 Dual Core
Ssnake51 replied to Evader's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I said 'most'. Obviouisly, some could not purchase this card even if they thought it might be a good upgrade simply because the funds to do so are not available to them. Personally, I thinkit is a lousy way to try and pick up a few FPS. At least that is the impression I've received from reading several reviews of this card. -
Who's getting the AMD 6990 Dual Core
Ssnake51 replied to Evader's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sorry, dude, but I think you are overreacting here. I've seen no indication that anyone thinks they are better because they don't think 'upgrading' to 2x 6990 is a wise decision. $1500 is not that much money in today's economy. I rather doubt that most of the people posting here would be unable to make this purchase if they thought it worthwhile. And don't you think we can critique another's system withou being accused of having 'machinest envy'? -
