Well the Ryzen 9 5900x is history now. Goes back to my reseller. Talked to them and he is pretty sure its a faulty CPU. I hope there are no issues with the warranty. Ordered an Intel 12900kf and a new mainboard now. The Ryzen replacement will be sold on Ebay. My voltages were set to defaults. If the motherboard has issues too, I dont know. And it does not matter any more. I am running memtest now, just to be sure. Because the DDR4 Ram is what I will keep. I have a Noctua NH-D15 SE Cooler for my Ryzen. I will keep that too. Just ordered an adapter kit for the Intel now. Yes 32 GB Ram. For MP that should be still sufficient. When I play DCS everything is turned off and set to low. Except textures (cockpit) and shadows to low. Not to flat. Flat feels awful in VR. But flat and low does not make much of a difference. Lets see how the new setup performs. Cant wait for the parts to arrive...

-
Gibts weitere Erfahrungsberichte? Ich überlege mir einen Intel Core i9-12900KF zu besorgen. Es gibt einige Tasks die der Prozessor nur auf W11 durchführen kann und erst da die Maximale Performance erreicht werden kann.

Long story short. Thanks for the advice, but I think I have a bad CPU. I removed the old "bequiet" CPU fan. The thermal paste was like chewing gum. I pulled the CPU out of the socket while it was still sticking on the cooler plate. Cleaned everything up installed the new Noctua cooler with fresh thermal paste. Now when I run prime95 with optimized default bios settings the CPU goes up to 60 degrees. When I activate XMP and game boost it runs up to 100 degrees. When I set ryzen master to over clock too it runs up to 115 degrees and shuts down. Also the CPU sometimes does not recognize that it heats up and the shown temp stays low, but the PC shuts itself down anyway. CPU stability Test shows: fatal error: Seems like this is it. Time for a new CPU

in progress ITR and G-Onset update, release date ?
darkman222 replied to irq11's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
@NineLineYou are right we have already been there, it has been discussed and after this I wont reply any further. People are asking for a FM fix which is something major for the enjoyment and competitveness of this module. Thats the difference between the Hornet being in early access compared to the Viper in early access. Over and out. -

No offence intended. I work as a freelance graphic designer. If I had a client who booked me for my work and paid for it in advance and instead of me adressing the clients feedback, I would just tell him, that I dont know when I will fix my work and instead keep getting the same feedback over and over again, while working on everything else, I am pretty sure that this client would never book me again. I understand that a complex thing like a DCS universe, with many modules and systems that are interconnected and dependent on each other cant be compared to me as a freelancer working for a single client, but priorities in the F16 modules development seem off to me. Like selling a sports car with three tires. Then installing a cruise control next. -
Quick update... and I feel a little stupid now that I have overlooked this. Game boost was OFF all the time in BIOS. I turned it on, fired up another stress test with prime95 and well 5 seconds later my CPU was at 115 degrees and the PC switched itself off instantly. New CPU fan ordered. Noctua NH-D15. Fingers crossed.

This is how you outrate any jet in a viper
darkman222 replied to karasawa's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Thats the design concept of the F18 vs the F16. You just pull 7.5G for the same turn rate in the F18 because you are way slower. Which of course means, that youre not as fast as the Viper, which is a disadvantage in other cases than dogfighting. For example BVR. But the slow game plays into the cards for the F18 in DCS. Also because the the F16 is a blackout machine at the moment. -
Thanks for the replies so far. @Werewolf_fs I was looking for someone like you who can do a 1:1 processor comparison in DCS. As there are just some youtube tests in MSFS2020 but none in DCS. Your information helps a lot. And it matches with what I was already expecting, reading the other opinions here, or watching those youtube tests: It wont make sense for me to "upgrade" to the Intel processor. Instead I will need to optimize what I already have. At this point I dont plan to change my hardware any more . Thanks guys, that decision is made for now. XMP is and was activated. Next step, I will force the fans to spin at full speed via BIOS all the time and see what temperatures I get. @edmuss Sorry its miselading what I posted. The screenshot from the task manager is while I am running a stress test on the CPU. Prime95.exe This was only to see how much turbo boost my Ryzen will give. DCS is on a separate m2 HDD (drive E) and drive D youre seeing is my data drive indexing files at the moment.

@NahemothSounds interesting. I remember you. We had a chat via private messages before you purchased your Pimax. Let me shoot you a PM and see if you can run a track file for me. So we can have a perfect comparison and I can post the result here. And of course thank you guys for the replies. I am going to see if there is something wrong with my current processor , cpu fan and bios. It really feels like I am missing something important constraining my performance.
-
Well, in that comparison it looks like the Ryzen 5900 is even better than the 12900K in standard resolution which is different from my recent research, where the Intel is better in low resolutions but the advantage gets lost almost completely when the resolutions go up to 4k. I did not find any tests for DCS though. Comparing it in MSFS seems to be a good idea to start from, but the source code of DCS is way older. So I am not really sure how to interpret such tests though.

9M and magic on C101 are rear aspect only?? [FIXED]
darkman222 replied to Rabbisaur's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
Seems like modules that are not so common like the C101 or the L39 wont be fixed then, instead to the more popular ones like the F5 or Mig21. Although the C101 and L39 are not early access any more. -
Until then you can get the DTC App a clever dude wrote for us:

To the i9-12900KF owners. This is what the task manager shows. Although I know my 5900x is capable to turbo boost up to 5 Mhz it is unlikely to see it. Is someone around here with a i9-12900KF and can tell me what his task manager shows? Not really sure if that is a feasible way to compare. But you might realize it is really hard for me to decide if I want to invest the money or stick with my 5900 for the next year. Maybe until the new Ryzen 6000 series comes up.
-
Well it seems like the hardware demand of DCS is rising while its being developed further and further. But we're now at a point where even the newest hardware cant keep up for VR users any more. Maybe I will upgrade to a i9-12900K processor soon and use the ryzen 5900 as working PC from now on. But I doubt that the performance improvement will be noticeable. Still good to know that other users have the same experience and its not faulty hardware or software configuration on my PC causing the low CPU frame times. Looking forward for the DCS Vulkan update. I still have hope for big improvements in VR like Vulkan did to the VR experience in XPlane.

Personal review of my capability's with the Viper
darkman222 replied to Rukus's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Welcome to DCS. Everybody. No matter what age youre at. I grew up with all those simulators. The Janes series, Strike Commander, Falcon 3.0, Falcon 4.0, Falcon BMS. And of course the arcade ones from, for example Novalogic, too. But DCS really taught me dogfighting and energy management. One thing to mention. The DCS F16 is a lot harder to master at the moment, than the F4 F16. Also the AI in DCS is much harder to beat than in F4. Even if you feel too old to join a multiplayer server. Take advice from me as a 40 year old sim enthusiast: Do it. There will be a lot of young people around of course. Some also with bad manners and bad language But it is much more fun to fight human players than the sterile AI in DCS. You will soon realize there are some people who are way better than you. They will kill you in the first turn. But then there are also some people learning their aircraft. And you'll realize when they make a mistake and you'll get them. If you are experienced in dogfighting but just a little rusty, you'll quickly develop a feeling when to engage a fight and when to disengage and reset the fight. Of course thats a question of mentality. Some people just fight until they die Just type in "dogfight" in the MP search. But dont go to the 1v1 slots. Go to the many vs many slots in: guns, missile, bvr . The DCS multiplayer experience is unbeatable fighting again real humans. -

darkman222 replied to Rabbisaur's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
Well $60. But still a full price non-early access module and $10 more expensive than the almost fully functional Mig19 in early access. Thats not a minor bug but a big tactical disadvantage the price does make no excuses for. So basically the DCS code cant handle a mix between rear aspect and all aspect missiles capabilities in one aircraft? But it can handle different sensitivities and seeker head gimbal limits like the aim9m and aim9x mix in the F16? Well okay then... Fingers crossed... -
9M and magic on C101 are rear aspect only?? [FIXED]
darkman222 replied to Rabbisaur's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
To bump this thread up again. Any news about the all aspect capability of the AIM9M and Magic missile? This jet is way too much fun in the BVR area on a server I like. But it would be more fun if I could surprise the bandits by slow flying and shooting missiles head on. At the moment the seeker seems way too unsensitive even when trying to lock the back of an aircraft. I am on free trial at the moment. But for a full price 80$ module I would expect the missiles to work correctly. -

darkman222 replied to karasawa's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
...or just do it the other way round. Fly a nice airshow around the bandit and wait for the FUEL warning light to come on. The F16 turns into a performance monster then. Outrate almost anything, including the bandit, kill him, eject and walk back home. Also I cant stress enough how different dogfights work against human opponents. I just realized that the Rafale was AI. -
Thanks guys. I did a lot of experimentation. Also I have to correct myself. Multiplayer is not a real issue here. And my current cooler should be okay, as AMD processors tend to be hotter than Intels. Concerning MP. When the CPU time was very low on a MP server, I reconnected, did a quick flight and played it back as a track file, directly in VR again. And the bad CPU frame times were I would say: Identical between what I witnessed real time in game and how the track playback was. I am going to try what your links suggest (the stuff I have not already tried before)@Skopro_PL. But a lot of what is mentioned in your links is what I already tried. No need to fiddle with the settings because everything already is set to "Low" except (cockpit) textures and Shadows set to "low" instead of "flat" Which means I already gave up with tuning and looking forward to feed DCS with more CPU horsepower. Which are the 20 % I hope to gain from upgrading from a 5900x to a i9-12900KF. Which is too optimistic I'm afraid though. This is what this thread should be about. If I did the upgrade I also would try W11 because the Intel processor can make use of it.

You can also use the DTC app for the Viper. Which seems to be enhanced version of the app mentioned above.
