If I bring up the communications menu / i can only use the keyboard function keys F5-F12 but no mouse to use it. Would not bother much in 2D but finding the keyboard in vR is some kind of difficult. Any idea? EDIT: Little white dot is visible, but does nothing on ground. As soon as i am airborne I can use the mouse like usual.

Does not seem to work in this case. The bandit didnt use chaff, and the aim120 pulled only between 4 and 6 Gs. Why did the proximity fuse not engage ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QoFDnW8TxA https://www.dropbox.com/s/2dgd6iavp0pyijb/mobettameta's Dogfight Arena v1.20-20210515-134735aim120.trk?dl=0

So what you're saying is, don't use flaps also because it'll make the Mig 29 accelerate out of a low energy, slow speed situation even worse? Makes sense too. Stick deflection override is the only assignable button that can override something in the Mig. Do you mean that with AOA limiter override?

Is the F-16C the worst dogfighter of its era in DCS right now?
darkman222 replied to Youda's topic in Chit-Chat
The thing is, why wont you pick an F16 in a "guns only" dog fight tournament at the moment? Because what counts is the package of code that creates the F16 as dogfighter here. Everything that still stands out needs to be addressed and fixed. Otherwise comparisons are still not possible. For example: Some more degrees per sec turnrate? Great, but still no fun fightig g-loc instead of the bandit. Better g modelling? Cool: now you can get frustrated even earlier having trouble locking up a bad guy. The (correct as is) radar lock bug has been fixed? Cool, now hope that the level 5 gunsight stays stable in MP and does not get crazy, like in the early days of the Hornet gunsight being twitchy in MP. Fortunately that happens very rarely in the DCS F16 today. Dont get me wrong. As an 80ies child, I like the F16 and I pick it even on "guns only" dogfight servers. You stay fast and dont get killed. But comparing it with the F18 or F15 the kill rate is only half as many bandits in guns area. Take the F16 to a BVR area and you face a totally different situation. So why do I and other people obviously play "guns only" then? Because its fun. And this is what apparently drives the people in this thread. -
We only have the discussion here because the F16 and the F18 are the most popular aircraft right now. And because they are still being developed. We could have the same discussion about F15 vs F18. I like that we have the possibilty to test aircraft in EA before they get pushed to stable version, but I dont like how long it takes to address obvious issues. Until then we just can hope that ED will be annoyed by so many threads talking about the same thing, that they will speed up the development process. But I doubt it

Depends on the tacking device, doesnt it? The Pimax hand trackers work just great in the demo apps. How did you get the hands working in DCS, what vR HMD do you use?

And that is the question that drives me. Lets say 2 aircraft with IDENTICAL turn rate. But one with a smaller turn radius. They both maintain energy perfectly and stay two circle, nobody reverses the turn. What will happen? For my understanding nobody will succeed. It will stay front passes all the time endlessly. Can someone clarify?

Did they fight with g-effects on? I think growling sidewinder has turned it off for fighting in the F16. Anyway. I am just a gamer, nothing more. But here are my impressions as frequent player on dogfight servers: 1. In the F16 you are still fighting g-loc all the time when you try to rate around any other aircraft. While in the F18 you can just sit and chill while having best turn rate performance. 2. Given the assumption the turn rate of the F16 and F18 are comparable, but the F18 has just the smaller radius, nothing but front passes would happen if the f16 would not bleed speed so quickly. Instead every merge the F16 enters with a smaller amount of energy, then the F18 creeps in the F16s turn circle and there it will stay. Just my impression flying both aircraft.

@totmacher great work with the charts. I just discovered you have it for every DCS aircraft, also with flaps down! Question: In your testing for the chart, was the G-loc modelling the limiting factor for the F16 or did you test it without g-loc?
-
Well thats the answer then. Maybe you could use it as an exploit, but this tells me the Mig was not intended to be flown in a dogfight with flaps down. I think thats the answer I was looking for.

Pull 17 G , get the kill, then eject and get a fresh F14, because the manovering flaps are stuck anyway. Seems worth for some people on the dogfight servers at least. Wasnt that a thread about turn rates anyway? ;)

I was wondering if one would use the flaps in the Mig29 just like people did in WW2 aircraft? How is it done in the real world, does it make sense to do so in DCS, or better just dont do it. As the Mig 29 is no fly by wire aircraft, the regular (trailing edge) flaps do nothing when turning tight and getting slow. The leading edge flap come down, though. So would it be a good idea to put the regular flaps down manually like the fly by wire aircraft do automatically?!

Has someone tried out 60 Hz mode on the 8KX before? It is great for flying on big MP servers because even with low CPU frame times you can get great smooth results without using image distoring brainwarp technology. But I now started to see the strobing which was already slightly visible in 75Hz mode a lot more in 60 Hz. I did a quick slow motion video with my cell phone through the lens and I realized that in both modes 60 Hz and /75 Hz the pimax 8KX shows 2/3rd of the time a black image. See the video. Can someone do me a favor and try the same with a cell phone that has slow motion capabilites through the lens? I am not really sure if thats by design, because I can put my gaming monitor even to a rate of 23 Hz and it does not flicker or strobe at all.

I am very excited about how ED is going to do that technically that we have a modern and a WW2 Mariana map. If we are going to have two different maps to select, or just set the date.

They are still working on anti skid. I think it will be a big improvement, once finished. I have rudder pedals with toe breakes. Just dont push the brakes further than 2/3rd of the pedal travel and trying to balance out if the jet wants to go to either side. Its just a workaround, but it is what we have at the moment. Of course you need aerobraking but slower than 100 kts you'd have to be an ice skater until we finally have ABS. For even more fun: Wait until ED models damage of the nozzle and the engine when you're aerobraking too much and the lower fuselage of the aircraft touches the runway

If I understand correctly the current curve depicts the actual curve the F16 has with its force sensing not or not much moving stick. That leads to pulling more Gs with a traditional gimballing stick like a warthog. So you expect to request half the amount of Gs with a half pulled stick, but in fact requesting much more. Its cool for FSSB stick owners for sure. If it will help on a stick equipped with stronger springs, maybe?! It just irritates me switching between the hornet and the viper, when the response curve changes. I cant adapt so quickly.

Kinda fixed in 2.7 at least for me.

Title says it all. Thanks ED. Now you can land and take the Hummer to drive back to your house. ...Or take a SAM and shoot down other aircraft in VR without getting insta-sick by the inverted up and down axis on the vR headset Just gave it a quick test today, looks good so far.

When I started this thread I was also mislead by the assumption it just happens when using JHMCS. So I guess the title is wrong. I spent a whole session on a dogfight server not using JMCS but just the HUD boresight modes and it turns out to be as unreliable as locking with JHMCS. You'd just not notice as much, because the over all amount of target locks is less with HUD boresight modes. I was even willing to revert DCS to a version when the F16 was initially released to test it with a previous version. Because I am sure that behavior emerged just after JHMCS for the DCS F16 was introduced. But unfortunately I could not revert to a DCS version old enough to prove my point.

Of course the F16 FM still needs some work. But as long as people play DCS like a game, they will use the paddle, they will over G the F15, they will fly the F14 pulling 14 Gs. I guess thats why its called F14 But what can you do? Participate in folds of honor where there is people watching and forcing you fly realistic. I would say the aircraft people cant currently cheat in are the ones with fly by wire including the SU 27 /33 where the paddle is allowed in regular operation for cobra manovers which often are just a useless waste of energy in a dogfight. As long as you mix fly by wire aircraft with traditional controlled aircraft in a DCS dogfight you will always have the potential that cheating is possible. I mean what can you do on dogfight servers against it? Thats a question about game design here. Put in a script that makes an aircraft explode when it is over g'd ? Nobody will like that. Make the server send a message : tomcat XY has pulled 14 Gs? Will that embarass someone? I guess not. -
https://www.dropbox.com/s/awzbs0pxr4uvslj/CMDS_ALE47.lua?dl=0 Here, try my LUA file. Its setup for dogfight servers. No time to set up a countermeasure program there. I have bound "Wall Dispense button, Panic" and CMS up (=MAN1) to my Hotas. CMS up (MAN1) will fire a burst of 20 flares in an 0,2 sec interval. No chaff. Often just using it once helps against anything except a 9X. The french Magic carried by the Mirage seems to be somewhat in between the 9M and the 9X sesititvity-wise. And -- MAN 5 - Wall Dispense button, Panic is set to drop just 2 flare each press. Great for pre-flaring when you are approaching an enemy whom you suspect to get ready to fire. And as bonus, this will fire 20 Chaff too. In case you fly on a dogfight server that features a BVR area. Cool, didnt know about the Dice Editor before. Thanks for sharing.
