  1. Yeah not to be elitist but this is a simulator. Why not program your keyboard numbpad to reporesent the numbers on the UFC so you can enter the numbers (you have typing I guess when in VR).
  2. Ummm... okay. If you look at the rest of what Cobra said it is clear that skipping this patch is about bigger changes to come. Every team has a capacity constraint and I doubt fixing the typos took much capacity (equally different team members do different things. The module was sold as early access, and really in a good state. If that bothers you then just wait until it is complete.
  3. It must have made some USAF planners uncomfortable to know the Eagle would be at a disadvantage against the Tomcat should things get hot and heavy with Iran. BVR would lead to a face off against the AIM-54 when they are flinging SARH AIM-7’s (up until the early 90’s) and then facing off against an arguably superior airframe if they closed to BFM range.
  4. Remarkable how all of that ran on an 8080 processor allowing the Tomcat the ability to engage multiple hostiles. How competitive the F-14 is in DCS May be reflecting in part some issues in implementation (ECM effectiveness, lack of the need for a go active command, lack of TWS in the Hornet) but overall it reflects the fact the Tomcat is a highly capable 4th generation fighter which punches at least as hard as the rest.
  5. Can’t wait to give it a try. I do like starting from cold but understand why that might be a barrier to entry for some. 67 missions, that’s quite an effort there!
  6. It wound up a multirole fighter but it's first role was as an all-weather fleet-defence interceptor (at least in Navy colours, it entered USAF service as a fighter-bomber as they had a different dedicated interceptor (though in fly offs the F-4 was a superior interceptor to the F-106)). Yep, it certainly has a tally of kills on small manoeuvrable aircraft. It is quite funny how people say "see how things go with just sparrows", you could say the same thing about some of the AMRAAM load outs people carry on the Hornet.
  7. I think it is part of why I thought landing the Hornet was harder than the Tomcat, I would often make approaches way to fast and basically dive for the deck and unsurprising bolter in the Hornet while the Tomcat would catch a wire (often the first wire).
  8. Beautiful work. Please do release them at some point!
  9. Sounds like they are reacting as the Phoenix goes pitbull which would be the first indication from the RWR that they have a missile inbound.
  10. So would that suggest (when modelled) that we would be best arming up our Tomcat’s with AIM-7F’s so we have the option of either? What are the other performance differences between them? (Are we talking Vietnam era 2% PK vs Gulf War Era 18% PK? (Or something like that!))
  11. You can quickly convert those coordinates online to lat/long. Then deliver JDAMs to your hearts content :) :pilotfly:
  12. Come on Heatblur... you know we all want to go downtown to SAM city. (And there is so much cheese for Tiger to say!)
  13. Right you are, sorry the R and B is next to the altitude anyway! No idea what that is either!
  14. R = radar altitude B = barometric altitude Generally when your radar altimeter is on as the HUD altitude source.
  15. I have been doing as Lex describes without even realising it, and it is useful as said for both trapping on a carrier but also aerial refuelling and formation flying. I find it necessary with the Hornet in part because of the spool up and down time of the engine. This seems particularly important as you turn in as the change in attitude can cause you to be too fast briefly but if you overcorrect you will slam yourself into the rear of the carrier. The other guild is to use your ears. You will be able to tell when you are starting to get too fast or too slow by the change in sound.
  16. Well it is a feature of the real Tomcat and my understanding was that in some situations the pilot would be dependent on the RIO for ejection as the forces in some departures would prevent the pilot reaching the ejection handles.
  17. Far from any expertise here so this is an in my opinion but it depends on the scenario. If facing off against a more manoeuvrable opponent than yes, get the shot off, force them to evade your missile while you clear out and reposition for another attack or bug out. If you are confident you can take them on then dogfight to gain optimal firing position (6 o'clock) and let the missile off the rail. Once you commit to a dogfight thought likely only one of you is going home so commit to win that fight which includes dropping your tanks.
  18. You should... how long are your dogfights lasting that you are running out of fuel in a Tomcat at that range? Even in a Hornet you should still have fuel to spare and she doesn't have anywhere near the legs of a Tomcat.
  19. A Mirage 2000-5 would be an absolute dream.
  20. Not sure if I am doing something wrong but when flying this mission I can't get the JTAC to designate, they go through all the usual preamble but there is no option to designate though I can clearly see the targets marked by smoke. Any ideas??
  21. Like it, as frustrating as AA refuelling can be in DCS it is just such an integral part that it has to be there. Was listening to an interview with an F-105 wild weasel pilot and they would refuel pretty much straight after take off and then several times between Thailand and North Vietnam and back. Looking forward to it!

Given the JSOW is designed to attack air defence sites at stand off ranges it may be difficult to intercept, probably the true data is classified.
  23. As they are simulating USN/USMC F/A-18C's and the Navy opted for the SLAM-ER over the JASSM I doubt we will see it. They certainly can be used by legacy Hornets (both the RAAF and the Finnish use them from legacy Hornets) but like some other overseas specific weapons (like the ASRAAM on RAAF F-18's) we probably won't see it. They are used from USAF F-16's and F-15E's so perhaps on those aircraft we will see it.

And being able to release from 130km away at altitude should give a nice complement to HARMs in the SEAD role against some of the tougher nuts to crack like the SA-10. Even at low altitude the range is about 20km. All assuming this is how they model it in DCS. Getting some real stand off capability to the F/A-18 should greatly improve its survivability. (At least until the SA-5 hits and approaching that range at altitude becomes hazardous again... then we need the SLAM-ER).
  25. Yep this is a real problem. Some tasks Jester is very good at (hooking targets for example) but once you get close enough that elevation matters he just goes to pieces. Particularly when you compare it to in the F-18 where can quite confidently keep targets locked up. I find there is a 20nm gap between where Jester is effective and where the pilot lock on modes start.
