  1. Not in the F/A-18C but the Mirage 2000 certainly has such a system (even if in reality it was rarely fitted to the C variant). It relies on detecting a missile launch (no matter the target) rather than the lock (so friendly missiles being fired at your opponent will set it off). To be honest situation awareness is key and yes TrackIR makes all the difference (or for a cheapskate like me a modded PS3Eye camera, IR LEDs and alternative tracking software).
  2. Agree. I can now hit the basket and take fuel for a while. Now just need to stay in place long enough for a full tank (getting close to goal now). Really takes a lot to not want to fly the basket!
  3. That article was a good read. Looks like until we get the F-16 with the HTS the HARM will be a little under done for doing dedicated SEAD missions. (Or if we had an F-4G.... I can continue to wish on that one) :helpsmilie:
  4. I remember back in the day Chuck Yaeger’s Air Combat having some sort of picture in picture back in the day (far from a simulator, but hey taking an F-4 phantom up against a wing of undefended bombers was always a blast). But yeah would be cool to have a PIP view of the missile (even if not totally realistic neither are external views).
  5. It depends. I went for FC3 first, but if you want the more complex model it might be a little simples. Since getting more complex planes I rarely fly the FC3 planes now. I got the hornet next which I love but followed up with the Mirage (both are FBW, the Mirage is more complete and there is a good included campaign). Don’t have the F-5 yet, I will get it eventually, I think it looks like a fun plane though with a simpler set of systems though with the added complexity of less automation.
  6. After finishing your fantastic M2000 Caucasus campaign and being a few missions into the so far even better Red Flag campaign for the same I can’t wait! The attention to detail in those campaigns is phenomenal. Day 1 purchase for sure. (And very happy this is on the PG map)
  7. While I would love AIM-132s on the Hornet they never were used on US Hornets so I just have to substitute AIM-9X’s for them. Some photon torpedoes would be nice though with quantum torpedoes for a later update.
  8. Me too! :helpsmilie:
  9. Agree. On my most recent Mirage 2000 campaign flight I could have stayed to tangle with the Su-27’s that had launched but my strike package was clear and I was out of missiles and it was time to bug out. Sure I would love a third and fourth kill, but the job was done and it was time to head home. Even so sometimes things happen. Just be glad that this is a sim and all that means is a reload.
  10. Can we have the sparrows on the F-5 as well? I mean the F-20 Tigershark which is effectively an upgraded F-5E could carry them! I guess in reality I don’t care what happens in the MP servers as I don’t fly for air quake, but if the intent is to simulate a block 50 USAF F-16C then that is what we should get (within the limits of a simulation). I would love to see a HUG AF-18A simulated but we have a block 20 F/A-18C so no ASRAAM or land based ILS for me (which doesn’t stop me slapping a RAAF skin on it!)
  11. Just posting to say thanks for making a fantastic campaign. Took an AA-8 too close on the CAP mission as I splashed both Mig-29s having to limp home with my control surfaces shot out and a tendency to go into a flat spin if I overdid the manoeuvres putting her down hard and fast on the runway and pulling the brake chute stopping just clear of the end. (The lack of punctuation reflecting the tension of those minutes). Awesome fun, made the Mirage 2000 purchase worth it. Has also pushed me to use realistic radio settings which I never thought I would bother with but just adds to the immersion. 10/10 will be more situationally aware next time!
  12. The problem is given how important a RIO is to core functions of the tomcat you would be unable to engage in BVR combat (or at least majorly hampered) without a RIO, and how good jumping in with a random RIO (or pilot for that matter) is pretty questionable.
  13. I also would love to see a phantom. Long been my favourite plane. An F-4E makes sense (though a navy J variant would be fun as well). For early war take the 4E, limit to no cannon ammo and iron bombs. Not exact, but would give a facsimile.
