  1. Yeah I saw that. But it displays the Tomcat speed at 0.6 Mach (400 knots), which in my book is not slow speed. That's faster than my average cruise speed lol Dogfighting at ~250 knots and the F-14 tends to bitch around in tight turns. In the Hornet it's pretty easy. A "stable" turn radius is definitely easier to pull of with a Hornet. Wouldn't you agree? That's pretty general, but true. A "good" pilot keeps a plane within it's strength. And a good pilot (resp. a good driver) handles it as good as possible outside it's strengths. What I wanted to point out is, that when using the Tomcat's strength, which from my perspective is clearly long range engagement, is the best way to handle it. But when dogfighting the other modules, all skills equal (or AI being "equal"), I'd say you must be more than "good" to keep up, because NOW you got into their strength area. Yeah, I shifted a bit off here about my overall point of view :) I think we can all agree on the fact that each aircraft has it's strengths, weaknesses and purpose. Otherwise the USAF, USN and USMC would all have operated the same aircraft. Just use whatever you like and find out how to use it... unless you can fly an Eurofighter, then always fly an Eurofighter :D
  2. Best tactic is: Shoot them in the face from a long distance. Fixed :D
  3. Obviously... but I didn't want to say that :D
  4. As I said, I'm no expert. When we are talking about dogfights, I'd say that an aircraft capable of stable slow speed turning is GENERALLY in advantage. And the F-14 (at least as per DCS sim) doesn't seem to get the upper hand in that regard. Where it HAS the upper hand is in long range engagement and this is the game you should play with her. At least that's what I figured out for now. But I am still learning. Compared to the Hornet, you can't just "bank and pull"... Plus, the F-18 has the JHMCS, which also adds to lethality in a dogfight. It's not all about turn rates. It's also about technical capabilites, quick radar engagement etc. And in general, I can only talk about DCS. I have no flying experience in real life and due to classified information I doubt that every plane in DCS is 100% accurate. Plus, in DCS you can't "feel" the planes behaviour which IRL probably helps a lot to control her at max efficiency, especially since there is no FBW.
  5. Nobody said it's a slouch Of course! If you got the skills... Totally agree.
  6. Yeah, strange... the F-18 had it's own drop down selection basically at day 1...
  7. I am no expert and I am still learning the Tomcat, but in general, the Cat is not build to be a dogfighter. It was build as an interceptor at long range engagement against bombers in the Cold War. The strength lies within it's long-range AIM-54 armament (in it's intended interceptor role) and the high powered engines. So, make sure you engage the enemy with your long range weaponry before they come close enough to draw you into their strength-territory. Otherwise you did something wrong in the first place, as if you tried to win an Indy500 race with your monster truck. The above mentioned 18,27 and 15 are far superior in dogfights. That's what they have been build for. That being said, a skilled 14 pilot can outclass a bad 18/27/15 pilot in any air to air engagement obviously. But with equal skills and same degree of "luck": no chance
  8. Thank you Mav!
  9. Same here. Worked right away as it should
  10. Do you think or know that this resembles the flight input characteristics well or just using it by default?
  11. What are the Warthog's pitch/roll axis settings to get a "realistic" feeling? Deadzone, curves etc.
  12. Sorry, of course i meant from the pit ;) But yeah, i forgot that when you select Jester's ordnance menu, you see the number of each type. I guess that counts as "RIO told you" ;)
  13. Is there a way to determine how many bombs you have left? In case you forgot how many you dropped ;)
  14. 1) When does the Cat actually used afterburners? Only for egress or intercept? Or for cancelled traps? 2) why dont you check the controls before powering up to MIL? isnt that a waste of fuel?
  15. Really? I always thought every carrier AC is supposed to takeoff with hands off stick... Today I learned
  16. Is there a reason there is no drop down selction in the user files for the F-14? It would be way quicker to find Tomcat related files. Just like with any other aircraft.
  17. I am not at home and don't have the settings on hand, but from the top of my head: most settings on the left bar are "high", civ traffic is off and shadows/heat blur are low MSAA x2 Shadows flat AF off Preload radius max (although I always "F11" through the map before hitting "fly" to preload)
  18. Yeah that's what I heard heard from time to time. I'd prefer the O+, so the question remains: If the current system and settings are pretty stable at 45 fps with Oculus ASW, what would I have to upgrade and to what? I think that my CPU is currently the weak spot, but I am open to suggestions. Does Samsung/WMR has some kind of "ASW" for their HMDs? Add. info: I am basically only in Singleplayer, not Multiplayer... yet ;)
  19. Current system: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 32GB 3000MHz RAM Ripjaws GTX 1080 SSD Oculus Rift CV1 So far I think my system runs pretty "smooth" at constant 45fps with ASW. But I really can't stand the Rift's resolution and SDE any longer. Thus I will upgrade to an Odyssey+ (or just Odyssey if the perf impact is too harsh). 1) DCS switching to Vulkan is talked about a long time and a VR performance increase is expecting along with it. What is the current status here? Can we still expect Vulkan AND a performance increase? Road map? estimated time? 2) So long, what CPU is recommended? Ryzen 2600 obviously is in constant boost to 3,9 max... Single core power is still relevant, but what is enough and what is OP? Is the 2600X with a boost to 4,2 currently enough? Or (at least/more than) enough to have a smooth experience with the O+? Especially due to the Vulkan issue, I am hesitating to upgrade the CPU currently.
  20. The value of your post is yet to be discovered... Albeit it's quite funny ;)
  21. Yes Sir, and thanks for the response :) I already read that. I was just saying that for me personally, the current status of how to engage and id an air to air target is less fun than it was before and makes me feel like a limping donkey:D I am really looking forward to the auto IFF. And although I currently love the Cat for her character and flight dynamics, being new, a two-seater and the most iconic jet, overall I still prefer the 18 as it is a more modern, more versatile, more polished bird and generally my favorite weapon system since I was a pre-teen lol The only real competition for me could be the upcoming F-16 ;)
  22. "Pilot body" makes it more obvious, sorry :D
  23. The shift-P command which shows Pilot hands on HOTAS, like in the F-18 or SU-27/33
  24. IIRC you add "markers" with the correct abbreviation (IP, FP, ST, HB) and then let Jester select "steerpoint from map" which also shows the elapsed time you created the marker (e.g. 10 minutes (ago)) Is that what you did?
  25. I am more looking forward to their "pilot's hands" update for immersive reasons ;)
