  1. dont panic just yet... MS retire support based on SP# installed. So, as long as you update Vista to latest service pack you will be fine for a good while yet. Basically, if you phone up MS with an issue with Vista and they say "what service pack are you on" and you say, "what service pack?" you'd better have a gold card ready. Fair enough really, all these xp holdouts...........:D:D
  2. at a glance i would concur with Boulund. have you clocked your gfx card? does this only affect LOMAC?
  3. hmmm. I will check the inputs in the game settings. linear in the cougar control panel. Cheers guys
  4. I'm just wondering whether, as the autopilots in the SU-25T essentially set the trim for themselves, maybe it’s best to go one way or the other. Either trim or autopilot. After all with 6 or whatever autopilot modes you have essentially got macros to any trimming you would ever want · hold attitude · fly level · hold bank · hold alt baro · hold alt radar · cancel autopilot (and trim?) …. and to manually trim as well will just confuse things leading to more problems as there isn’t a reset trim option
  5. From Greek lomac website (admin "sisifos") Cheers Ike4fin for pointing me at this one. "There's 6 new Auto-pilot modes for the Su-25T. The plane does auto-pilot by trimming itself with trim tabs to match the mode required. On exiting most auto-pilot modes, the trimming is bound to be incorrect and you'll flop about. In the other planes you could cancel trim with Ctrl-T. But for the Su-25T, you can get the correct trimming by choosing the Emergency leveling mode(ALT-3), which puts you level and straight, and then exiting auto-pilot altogether with ALT-9 or A.Overall, when you use auto-pilot once, you have to use it forever more." That clears that up. I need to map some more autopilot modes to the stick. :joystick:
  6. <Viper> does that alter the trim? I've been fighting the SU-25T instant action scenario for days now and am flailing about all over the place after a fire any ordnance. If I trim to attempt to stabilize after firing an IR missile, (the weight imbalance immediately sends the wings over), then hit "emergency levelling", then need to shallow dive to strafe, (therefore cancel "emergency levelling"), will my previous trim send me out of control again? My ham fisted fix to this ATM is to simply fire two A-A missiles at a time to maintain balance. A waste of Roubles! I guess I am asking whether to avoid aileron trim if using "emergency levelling mode"
  7. Gaaa! Ive been battling with my HOTAS for the last half hour trying to get the trim reset to work on this!
  8. hmmm…. I had that same issue, (tearing on BS & LOMAC), no matter what I did. It works now though. I don’t therefore think it had anything to do with LOMAC or BS but rather flakey NVIDIA control panel. Over the course of a 6 month period I must have updated drivers 3 or 4 times. I noticed it works now, (before I prepared this post), and i have done nothing differently apart from disabling UAC but I’m not saying that was a factor. My best guess is that the newest nvidia drivers / control panel do work when setting application specific profiles. Make sure you do set per app and make sure the app appears on the list. Failing that, do a complete uninstall / reinstall of the nvidia drivers and all associated apps. Good luck ps. I'm not using nHancer or Rivatuner as the latter does'nt yet work with the latest Nvidia drivers, but as LOMAC is so CPU dependant anyway the gfx card isnt so much of an issue, (assuming you have a powerful card).
  9. Sorry to butt in guys, but the llights......mean neutral trim right?
  10. Compared to the basic FM planes this thing needs bucket loads of trim, but that’s okay, because trimming is free and legal! Can someone tell me the meaning of the 3 trim lights (green) in the bottom centre of the cockpits [below]. I noticed them last night. Are they pitch, roll & rudder trim indicators?
  11. Got my Cougar profile sorted. Got the hang of the SHKVAL, (its more twitchy in FC than BS, (BS seems easier to lock). The plane shudders when you are too slow / fast / turning too quickly, so easy to see what i am doing wrong, but, hey, the airframe its not getting repaired out of my pocket so 'shudder all you like fat boy'! [in a southern drawl] Ricardo's HD pits are very nice as well.
  12. That worked! What a dipstick! I can fly again!:pilotfly: Now to create a BS Cougar profile, (fast forward a week.......). Cheers.
  13. SOLD: One advance copy of DCS:A-10
  14. how long will it take to get up there (30k)? You might have to take a shaver and a copy of "war and peace".
  15. I use this profile for BS & Cougar http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33583 Having the control axis view open in flight, I click to trim, (I can hear the in-game 'click'), and release the stick. The virtual stick returns to centre in the viewer when it should stay put. It must be a glitch as I was getting pretty good with the Evo, (cable ties for springs, etc). Anyway, I have hi-jacked my own thread here!
  16. 12km? Thats like being in space to an A-10 flyer! :pilotfly::pilotfly:
  17. Cheers mate. I will try a loop tonight!! I reckon you had a special "red bull air race" version of the SU-25T made up for that. Or maybe you climbed to 20,000, dove at 90, turned smoke on them did that loop, (or would your wings have come off?). As for the KA-50, its sitting in disgrace atm as i CANT TRIM THE BUGGER NO MATTER WHAT I DO**. Had it licked on my old Saitek Evo Force but with my Cougar? pffft. no matter what profile i use, "click trim, release, wobble, pitch, repeat, crash".* Bah!:joystick: * to badly quote the shamen i have "i have watched, watched, watched every video, i have read, read, read every post"
  18. Guys I am just dipping my toe in the strange and unknown waters of Russian planes in FC. Namely the SU-25T as this was the whole point of the Flaming Cliffs expansion, (advanced FM, etc). Now, having come from an A-10 A-G background, this is quite challenging, especially with the metric HUD and Cyrillic cockpit. I have two queries, so please forgive me if this info is squirreled away on the forums already but as my granddad use to say, “a shy lad gets nowt”; · This plane flies like a double decker bus carrying obese gorillas to a pie shop!:chef: I know it has the advanced FM and the ‘T’ is heavier than the vanilla model, but is this right? If so, god help me when DCS: A-10 comes out! Are there any ‘top tips’ to Frogfoot flying? (I am going through the great BeachAV8R tutorials on SimHQ) · I have the FC printed manual, but want aircraft performance data. Not the ceiling, max payload stuff, etc., I mean the takeoff / landing speeds, best climb rate, corner speed, etc. If I remember from my civilian FS days, this used to be on the kneeboard. The manual goes into great detail re: ordnance data but omits this stuff. I’m not one to give in easily, and once I’ve got my HOTAS up to speed with all the extra SHKVAL / autopilot controls, (and the mental RWR), I will hopefully manage to blow something up that is actually shooting back! Увидимся в небе ! (Я думаю?) Ps. One more note for ED really, if it’s not too late. Please add more procedures to the FC2.0 manual. The printed DCS manual was great but again, was short in the procedure dept. I don’t want to bang on about the old Falcon manuals but……sometimes, when learning, a few; “do this then this” steps really help out.
  19. Joe Kurr - no problem. honoured actually:thumbup: Mustang - I have edited my post to reflect the NVIDIA specific nature of the two control panel tweaks. I haven’t played the game on an ATI card yet, (till I get my 5870). Viper - Pity. I was going to try that mod, it looks impressive. I need the alt-tab trick to fix the weird stutter bug.
  20. cheers guys. can you verify that you can see the pic with my table on it? i couldnt get a table into the post, (possibly if i mess about with HTML), so i uploaded a pic, but it wouldnt let me upload a pic from my pc, (to save ed server space prob).
  21. ..or buy a 50" tv with a really low resolution (640x480) and you will have dials that are super huge!
  22. gahhhh! another technical problem! Can you see it now? i added the pic to the "albums" bit on the profile page:doh:
  23. Apologies for those of you, who are happy with XP and are sick of hearing of us “transients” who have moved to Win 7, but most transitional issues can be worked around, (blows raspberry in the general direction of Windows XP). This repeats a lot of the great info on this forum and others I know, but it may help some newbie’s to get up and running quicker as my patience has worn thin a few times. It seems like EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM EVER reported on this forum has happened to me and I have learned a lot from fighting my way through. None of these discoveries are mine, but after several months where LOMAC sat gathering dust in disgrace on my shelf, this is how I got it working properly…. [**EDIT** the gfx control panel settings below assume an NVIDIA card. This is simply because thats what i have...until my 5870 turns up.. amazon.co.uk are you listening?? ;)] [**EDIT** i had to post the table as an image, and it may be hard to read. Does anyone know an easy way of embedding the table in the post? i may try to add as a link.] [links pasted here as they are embedded in image above as i couldnt get the table to render in the post] http://www.dutch-flankers.nl/wiki/index.php?title=Installing_Flaming_Cliffs_on_Windows_7 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=34335&highlight=graphics.cfg http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=50225 Notes *BS does this where cockpit sounds are loud as if the door was open. You F2 outside view then F1 back in again and the problem goes away. This is similar to LOMAC but that fix doesn’t work here, as it’s a vista\7 direct sound deprecation problem. ** This stumped a lot of people including me, twice. Follow this link. Do not deviate, do not blink. Do it from scratch, (clear previous install dirs, etc), and if should work. ***This is the final minor glitch I can’t seem to shake. I have a 3.6ghz box with 4gb or ram and a 1gb GFX card. LOMAC is traditionally CPU bound but this looks like a data throughput glitch. I will run perfmon & process explorer and monitor the lockon.exe process to diagnose. Setting core affinity helps, and I am aware of the various x64 related posts and just hope FC2 doesn’t do this otherwise I might start on Prozac or start playing FC with whale song in the background. The subject of MODS for newbies Go to lockonfiles.com and get MODMAN 7.1 (backup your lockon folder in case things go titsup****) After reading vipers thread, (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=49980), where I thought “how come his LOMAC makes mine look like its running on an AMIGA? “, he very kindly showed me the mods he uses, (in that thread), I was gobsmacked, so I started experimenting. Now LOMAC looks better than ever and runs very nicely. (I don’t have that many mods as my install started to creak a little so I cherry picked the nicest. PM me for my list) ****technical term Conclusion A palaver? sure, but remember, you are getting a 7 year old game to work on hardware & OS software that wasn’t even conceived back then. You are also learning a lot about the hows and whys of Windows which should stand you in good stead in the future. Now apart from the alt-tab minor annoyance, FC works like a charm and looks wonderful on win 7 x64, in proper widescreen! Happy shooting!:pilotfly:
  24. this months "pc pilot" mag has a favourable review of a proper trackir alternative. about £30-£40 cheaper. cant remember the name off the top of my head.
  25. A lot depends on preference when it comes to particular flavours of joysticks / pedals. You will hear all sorts of “get this” and “don’t get that”. it’s all very subjective to your preference and your wallet. I went from a saitek evo àevo force à hotas cougar and there are strengths / weaknesses with them all but am happy From my experience, the things that made the most difference to me were (in descending order) Track IR – OMG that really adds to the experience. I would never go back and would rather play minesweeper than a flightsim without trackir now Proper HOTAS – Total control. Sing the top gun theme tune. Say no more:pilotfly: Rudder pedals – a subtle but immensely immersive addition. I had a twist stick rudder for yonks but the difference is simple. More control. More accuracy. More kills (and better landings). As 'dark eagle' has done, i repurposed my G25 racing pedals and they work fine. Monitors – no need for fancy multiple monitor setups. They are fiddly to set up in BS and expensive. Mind you, if you have a spare LCD lying around, the ABRIS / SHKVAL works nicely on it and can increase your situational awareness. a bit. Desk – Meh. a desk is a desk unless you want to go down the whole pit building route. Good luck with your ‘significant other’ in that department
