  1. hmmmm. This is also my problem. There is an 'escort' role in 'tasks', but i dont think it does anything. form the manual... "Escort. This task is allocated to fighters and attack helicopters and involves escorting allied aircraft (transport aircraft, bombers, or attack aircraft) and defending them along the route from possible attacks of enemy aircraft and air defense systems. In doing so, the escorts should not engage in fights with the enemy if they do not pose a threat or are significantly off the course line " But how??
  2. Having become bogged down in my F-15 campaign, I have begun experimenting with the mission editor to get back into the fast jet mindset. Starting with 1v1, then 1v2 and onto 1v3 (about my limit ATM), I have started to add things like AWACS and triggers to the missions. Honestly, once you get going its really addictive and a great feeling to fly your own mission. Anyways, I came up with a fun concept. A midnight scramble from your airbase, instruction messages as you taxi, real last minute stuff. “Bandits escorting heavy transports northwards @30k, 10 miles off the coast. Intercept!” Really simple stuff. I set up the environment, my two ship flight and the enemy transports. After this turkey shoot I added a flight of MIGS to the mix as an escort to the transport package. Now my question is; Can I have the MIGS act as proper escorts or do I have to simulate this by duplicating the transports flight plan, (for the MIGS to follow), and adding a trigger zone attached to the transport flight? (This would trigger them to engage once my flight approached). I noticed that there is an “escort” role in the “tasks “dropdown. Am I missing something obvious?
  3. SU-25T has these modelled. The frogfoot is the only plane with this advanced flight modelling. Wait for DCS: A-10 for all this in the Hog, (he says hopefully) Crunch - theres no instruments way. Once selected just declare 'inbound' and your pilot calls out the right airport name. (must have a hidden kneeboard!)
  4. The Manuals are about 90% identical. If you have the LOMAC manual as you say, then read that. Honestly, dont wait for the FC2.0 one, as apart from colour and some nice additions, (yes, I will be buying the printed one as well when / if it comes out), the content is the same. The smaller GUI manual on the other hand is new and mirrors the DCS one as FC now has the DCS-like front end. A weeks good reading in the Flight manual there, so get stuck in!
  5. That one had me for a while, but its as Wags said, wind and rudder. The HUD projection also takes into account the parallax effect. With TrackIR, if you move your head laterally left, the HUD projection shifts right. Centering the HUD with rudder is, in effect, cancelling out drift caused by wind, as you have discovered. BTW Thats not right, (apologies if you have already sussed this). I always add wind to my missions and its a rollercoaster all the way! Wind is modelled at 3 altitude levels in FC2.0,"sea level", 2000m & 8000m
  6. HOJ shots at about 30-40 should get you a few more minutes to think, (low kill probability but will force enemy to defend, giving you time for a second proper salvo and to organise your wingmen. Put your wingmen in the fight to draw some fire from you). I am stuck on this mission as well but have tried a few different things. My biggest failing is charging in "top gun" style. Following advice i now routinely view the .trk files and i can see where i went wrong. I am slowly building up my "moves" that way. WE WILL WIN!!!! ps. I created my own 1v1 then 1v2 and now i can mostly handle 1v3 (sometimes) to get the hang of tactics
  7. Heh, its not exactly clear in the manual. A proper "airport / approach procedure" would be good. I've picked this stuff up from the forums to be honest. That and pressing all the buttons to see whsat happens!:joystick:
  8. To be honest, even FSX is pretty lame at airfield operations. Falcon 4.0 had better ATC IMO. In FSX you have to buy loads of addons to beef it up. There is a lot of scope for modders in FC2.0 there I think, but its hard. Immersion isn't easy. Much easier to do a skin or .cgf tweak.
  9. You can cycle in US planes, but the only way to determine which one you have cycled to is to contact the tower. In Russian planes the airfileds are numbered IIRC.
  10. Oneway You cycle through ILS / airfields with the same key as you use for waypoints, (`) on my keyboard, after selecting ILS mode with ‘1’. The ILS cycles and you have to declare ‘inbound’ or whatever to determine which airfield’s ILS you are now tracking. Use the map view to help with names and orientation. As for autopilot systems, the SU-25T has the most advanced AP in-game with wings levellers, trim neutraliser, (or the tabbed equivalent), pitch hold, etc. For all these needs, fly the SU-25T.
  11. I know what you mean! Geek-tastic! Been looking for an excuse to get those MFD's :smilewink:
  12. Thanks Moa. It’s working now. It launches the simulator.exe, which it wasn’t doing yesterday. I have a theory that I had to actually properly save a track file not try to open the default created one after a mission. Either that or it was being accessed by the game and therefore locked.
  13. hmmmm. I got the latest version (1.2.1), and pointed it at the .trk file and at the player. Nothing happens when I press play. Am I missing something?
  14. Yeah, I think you are right. It is starting to feel a little "manic miner" after the 10th epic fail! I wish you could save games like in FC1.12b as I never had any issues with that. I will report once i have been back to F-15 school!
  15. Creamed again! Once the Flankers fire their R27's at me, I manage to get a missile off and order my wingmen to engage. I then beam to get an eye for approaching missiles with my RWR going off. I spam Chaff and flares then WHAM. Dead. Every time. I did the FC1.12b F-15 campaign with labels on if I remember. Now I know why. I will try viewing my track to see where i am going wrong and post it here to give you guys a laugh! This technique use to work before (with labels on mutter mutter.....)
  16. It looks like once the TM HOTAS comes in we will have all the 2010 choices available to us, (nowt from CH). I hope TM dont balls it up as all the competition have blatant achillies heels, (stiff rudder, no movement, centre slop, FFB that doesnt work in DCS:BS, no idle detents, etc).
  17. aha!. Yes, the perils of getting a 40gb SSD OS drive with only room for one game at a time!, (hence the none standard install location - that and bad experience getting FC1.12b working on win7 x64) Cheers Moa (and Crunch)
  18. Guys I downloaded this from lockonfiles.com and it runs okay. I point it at my latest .trk file and......nothing. Am i sup[posed to be able to play the .trk outside of FC2.0? Nothing happens when I press the play button, or save for that matter. Win7 x64 BTW
  19. I see what you mean, and after doing a bit of digging i see why there are no hard and fast range stats for missiles. There are too many variables. I will try 30nm HOJ shot but think that may be right on the edge of ECM burn through anyways with the Flanker CAP. The fact that they are coming headon reduces your reaction times massively. (That and my tendency to panic when the RWR goes off!)
  20. A stick has to move! That article has confirmed my preconceptions. Tactile feedback in a simulator, even with trackIR, surround sound, multi monitors, pedals and a HOTAS is still vastly reduced over the real world therefore you need all the help you can get. Removing movement may be acceptable in a real jet, (although not according to the USAF who insisted on an inch or so), but you have your belly to tell you when you are pulling G's IRL. The A-10 Cougar is looking better and better!
  21. Thanks for the advice. My big failing is not using AWCACS to estimate range for a HOJ shot. I may be able to put 2 or 3 bandits on the defensive if I can get a few good shots off. Also on this mission you are told to engage at 33k. That makes it harder to notch as you are so high up after a shot. Diving with afterburners like a flaming meteor to get below the enemy after a shot makes detecting oncoming missiles that much harder. Tonight I will come in lower, (25k-ish), try to fire 2-3 long range HOJ, shots, tell my wingmen to engage then beam and head for terra firma to try and break their SARH lock. Hopefully I can then get some separation, turn and re-engage with the odds evened a little! I wil try your mission planner suggestion at the weekend. I plan to get my hands dirty in that dept anyway. [As a side note, in the FC manual there is a summary of Russian missiles with ranges, etc. Is there a NATO equivalent? Obviously such numbers are to be taken in context; as altitude, bearing, target manouvers and speed will all alter the mix, but for instance, in a head on launch at 30k, if AWACS says bandits are <30nm, is it worth a HOJ shot? I am a missile scrooge!]
  22. Hang on, I've been waiting for DCS:Mig-31 for ages! If Clint flew it then as far as i am concerned its seen service and ED should model it. And rear firing missiles. I wonder if someone can do a Brain-Track-IR though for the avionics controls? I will email Natualpoint on this and to help them out will attach a picture of a brain (below) Hello? Nurse?
  23. Well, I have been away playing Napoleon: Total War for a month or so after completing the FC2.0 A-10 campaign and enjoying it immensely. Returning, I ploughed into the F-15 campaign and after setting up my Cougar controls, bumbled through the first two missions. Then had my arse handed to me on a plate! It’s a whole new world and a much more vicious one than I remembered from my FC1.12 / F-15 campaign, (or maybe I was better then?). I have fought through to mission 4 now (bomber & escort intercept), and am having big problems. I am really enjoying it though and so far, the problems are my own making, primarily because; · I am charging in ahead of my wingmen and the bandits are gang-launching on me · I can’t get to ECM burn-through and identify individual targets for my wingmen intercept orders fast enough. (I may just tell them to “engage my target” based on a HOJ lock). · My “notching” skills need some work · Beaming the missile only works if you can see it and identify which smoke trail is the one with your name on it. I won’t put the labels on though! I have read the excellent AAR’s and find them really helpful. Like mini-tutorials for us sky bumblers. Thanks BeachAv8r, Ven & dwpenny for keeping us entertained!
  24. Sounds like the "forcefeedback=0" bug to me. you need to edit a file, (cant rememebr which) and disable it. sorry to be so vague. do a search on this and you will be okay **edit** producer.cfg (can be found in: Ka-50/Config) ForceFeedbackEnabled = true; (CHANGE TO FALSE IF IT WAS SET TO TRUE) (from Frazers guide: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=49434)
  25. Cool. Call me old fashioned but if I push a stick I want it to move! Remember the Sinclair ZX81 keyboard? (shudder)
