  1. that sorted it. cheers. it was the missile effectiveness slider i think. couldnt find the .cfg or .lua file so just reset to defaults in game. btw my "view angle min" are differnet to yours CameraAngleLimits = {} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_27] = {160.0, -76.0, 145.0} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_33] = {160.0, -79.0, 145.0} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_25] = {109.0, -70.0, 104.0} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_39] = {116.0, -85.0, 145.0} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iMiG_29] = {160.0, -80.0, 145.0} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iMiG_29K] = {140.0, -65.0, 145.0} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iA_10] = {160.0, -72.0, 145.0} CameraAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iF_15] = {160.0, -81.0, 145.0} any idea why?
  2. Guys I changed my graphics.cfg file to “1.6” FOV and that works okay. I avoid the settings page now so it won’t reset. I tried an f-15 mission. Fine. Better SA. Like it I tried a few a-10 missions. And every single maverick I fired missed. By the same margin, below and to the right, (i think). Do you think the forced FOV change has somehow messed up the HUD alignment? As mavs are targeted using an essentially auto-locking visual means, this may have been borked by changing FOV. I will revert and test. I swear I saw a little mod on lockonfiles to tweak the targeting pipper but ignored it, (and can’t remember the name now). It could be another mod messing with stuff. Without mavericks, the A-10 is just a tour bus!:noexpression:
  3. hang on. if i have a crap pc and i want to run a game at max settings.....maybe if i rant about it, magical elves will appear and make it work. or. turn some sliders down and. stop insulting people who try to help
  4. cheers brit. i know that. it just feels like cheating somehow. daft i know.
  5. CGTharos is quite right. Read the excellent, “Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War”. Once deployed to Iraq, the pilots soon abandoned their “down in the weeds” training tactics for medium altitude sorties only going in with guns once out of mavericks and once they were sure AA threats were taken out. The low approach seems to have been advocated for radar avoidance of the perceived threat from the Iraqi air force which didn’t really materialise.
  6. It bloody worked. Getting below them. The 29's can still dodge your missiles like they are stoned bumblebees chasing Usain Bolt, but they cant dodge 3 OF THEM!! .....[and my campaign wont save....after all that...back to 1st mission...delete saved states....this game is a PATIENCE SIMULATOR].....
  7. I learn a new thing every day, (slaps forehead). I've had the bloody thing in 4:3 FOV all this time!!!!! ggggaaaAAHHHHHHH!! My eyes are open now!
  8. Nice and easy to fly. Easy to land. Looks mean. Only issue is that it’s pretty slow, which doesn’t inspire confidence whilst avoiding SAM's in the later campaign missions. Good as a trainer though. I too struggled with treetop ingress and attacks. The trouble is, down in the weeds you have precious little room to manouver to avoid SAMS, (see iron hands excellent A-10 SAM avoidance tutorial here , http://www.flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2g.htm, where he rarely flies under 4,000ft to allow for his split-s evasion manouver). ps. I used the pot cleaner on my 2nd hand Cougar. Good as new now.
  9. Always assume that a column has some anti-air protection. Usually at the tail end. Make a high approach from their 3 or 9 for recon. If you have IR mavericks, scan the columns profile and look for the distinctive shape of the AAA vehicles. Kill them first then it’s a turkey shoot. Strafe the convoy from their 6 to line them up nicely. Btw. I recently started the A-10 campaign again as the F-15 was stressing me out too much and I was getting caught in my own frag blast. Low alt low bomb / strafe runs are inadvisable against armed targets. Pickle at 4-5,000ft for safety.
  10. Life is one giant Donald!
  11. That big a boost? Planning an i7 920, (or 30), as my next upgrade. Hopefully when FC2 comes out. BTW not sure if FC2 will use the full BS engine in its entirity, just the landscape possibly, (unleess i have understood this wrong). If that is so then we may seee no multicore FPS boost. Fingers crossed.:book:
  12. Thanks guys. It makes me feel better to know that I am not just being a tool here. I can't believe that this is only mission 2! I will try what you recommend tonight and will restart the mission and try to take out the initial 2 x Mig25's (**EDIT** 2 x MIG 23's) with sparrows to save my amraams for the MIG29's as I usually only have one left by this point, forcing me closer. Trying you fly lower than those Fulcrums won’t be easy though as they are running at almost treetop height when I have checked them out (with ‘F2’).
  13. A few pointers You have a Quad core CPU but LOMAC engine doesn’t use more than one. So, with a Q6600 you basically have a 2.6ghz single core CPU as far as the game is concerned. Overclock to 3.6ghz for a FPS boost. RAM doesn’t seem to matter much either as I have 4gb as well. Your GFX card is good enough. I have a 1 GB card and can’t play totally smoothly. It’s very CPU bound. Pure GHZ. Normal PC checks worth doing, (assuming you are confident enough). Check running processes. Run ‘resource monitor’ (the new funky one in 7). It’s the button on the performance tab of task-manager. Get a good idea of where your resources are going. Trim your start-up apps in ‘msconfig’.
  14. Guys Somehow, I fluked this mission the last time I did a campaign play through and killed all the MIGS. Now I have some nice mods installed, (cheers 159th_Viper for saving me a few weeks faffing there), and have been buffing up my tactics, I started a new run through and as =RvE=Yoda pointed out in my post about mission 4, the 2nd mission, and especially those two bloody Fulcrums are far more deadly. I have tried; 1. Going in high, (they are jamming. Always), launching AIM-120 in HOJ mode. This never even hits. I crank, dodge the inevitable return missile, turn back in and get a bore sight lock and return fire with an AIM-7, (all I have left by this stage apart from sidewinders). If lucky, I may get one bandit, but am too low for much avoidance and the MIGS fly supernaturally low so maintaining radar lock is difficult. 2. High launch, then ducking low. Again, trying to compete with the AI in low flying & locking-up is impossible. Their off-boresight launches keep you defensive the whole time, and their <200m altitude notching skills are unbeatable. (BTW, in all this, my wingman isn’t much use as he doesn’t seem to want to engage at long / medium range and doesn’t get close enough for a short range shot before he is killed). 3. By now I am thinking, “Let’s get sneaky”. At >50km. Turn radar off, go NOE. Break 90 deg right and head for the coast, (protected by a line of hills). With radar off and flying very low, I skirt round the bandits flight path trying to outflank them but always get ambushed and destroyed. Either they saw me heading to the coast or .. The AI is cheating or .. My wingman is giving me away by not turning his radar off even though I tell him to. (His RWR symbol was still on). That might be a bug as I told him twice. Maybe if I head to the coast earlier they won’t see me? Or I could send my wingman to another waypoint to act as bait or at least stop him waving a big OVER HERE banner with his radar on. Either way, a stand up knife fight isn’t working here as they are really low and jamming. Couple that with the AI’s notch / launch ability makes it very frustrating. As usual guys, any sagely advice would be most welcome.:helpsmilie:
  15. You mean like the old Microprose cardboard overlays? They were brilliant. Seriously though, just print the two one-page pdf's in your game directory. They have most of the keys.
  16. As GCTharos pointed out, we won’t be getting the FULL FAT A-10C, but the classified stuff they can’t include won’t affect game play and we don’t notice, (well I won’t - hopefully I will be too busy laughing at all the Ka-50 pilots flailing about because they can’t use the trimmer*). Bring on the HOGS OF WAR!! * That will be me then.
  17. Do fighter pilots have more sex?* Hang on. The thought of Tom Cruise "on the job" has just made my cup of tea go cold. *(With bomber pilots wives)
  18. Crunch. The "Pre launch timer" at the bottom. Is that the "Time to active" for the next missile you fire? So, if you fired NOW it would go active in "9" seconds. Saw ironhands video but that bit didn't sink in my brain.
  19. I have one ;) No, what I am attempting is to use the H1 with (S3 in) for extenal views; < padlock threat missile > padlock threat aircraft ^ padlock my launched missile to target v rear view Then H1 center resets to view forward. They work as long as i remember to enable NUM Lock beforehand. In the heat of battle......fumble fingers, etc. This way, i hope to get the best of both worlds and increase my SA with Trackir + custom, informative padlocked views.
  20. Fake webpage I reckon, (he said checking his paypal account).
  21. 26th feb???????? 11 days! wibble.........;)
  22. I see what you mean. I was just being lazy, trying to map LOMACS default view keys to the Cougar. The # for comms gave me some trouble as this key, (on uk keyboards) doesnt exist in Korgy. To get around that i simple changed the assigned key in game. I can do this for the views. I just cant see why they missed the Num lock function out. After all, it does affect the keypad functionality.
  23. Long standing misinterpretation on my part about the "C" version. Like I said, monday morning pontification. That and an attempt on my part to understand the dev process as specific to ED with regards their planned upcoming releases. ....and reconcile myself that I probably wont be playing a true next gen A-A fighter in the DCS series for a while.
  24. A-10C. 1st correction. Cheers Viper. How the hell have they managed that? from WIKI The A-10C first deployed to Iraq in the third quarter of 2007 with the 104th Fighter Squadron of the Maryland Air National Guard. The jets include the Precision Engagement Upgrade.[36] The A-10C's digital avionics and communications systems have greatly reduced the time to acquire a close air support target and attack it.[37] I am now a far happier bunny!
