That big a boost? Planning an i7 920, (or 30), as my next upgrade. Hopefully when FC2 comes out. BTW not sure if FC2 will use the full BS engine in its entirity, just the landscape possibly, (unleess i have understood this wrong). If that is so then we may seee no multicore FPS boost. Fingers crossed.:book:

F-15 campaign mission 2 (Fulcrums flown by Tron!!)
coolts replied to coolts's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks guys. It makes me feel better to know that I am not just being a tool here. I can't believe that this is only mission 2! I will try what you recommend tonight and will restart the mission and try to take out the initial 2 x Mig25's (**EDIT** 2 x MIG 23's) with sparrows to save my amraams for the MIG29's as I usually only have one left by this point, forcing me closer. Trying you fly lower than those Fulcrums won’t be easy though as they are running at almost treetop height when I have checked them out (with ‘F2’). -
A few pointers You have a Quad core CPU but LOMAC engine doesn’t use more than one. So, with a Q6600 you basically have a 2.6ghz single core CPU as far as the game is concerned. Overclock to 3.6ghz for a FPS boost. RAM doesn’t seem to matter much either as I have 4gb as well. Your GFX card is good enough. I have a 1 GB card and can’t play totally smoothly. It’s very CPU bound. Pure GHZ. Normal PC checks worth doing, (assuming you are confident enough). Check running processes. Run ‘resource monitor’ (the new funky one in 7). It’s the button on the performance tab of task-manager. Get a good idea of where your resources are going. Trim your start-up apps in ‘msconfig’.

Guys Somehow, I fluked this mission the last time I did a campaign play through and killed all the MIGS. Now I have some nice mods installed, (cheers 159th_Viper for saving me a few weeks faffing there), and have been buffing up my tactics, I started a new run through and as =RvE=Yoda pointed out in my post about mission 4, the 2nd mission, and especially those two bloody Fulcrums are far more deadly. I have tried; 1. Going in high, (they are jamming. Always), launching AIM-120 in HOJ mode. This never even hits. I crank, dodge the inevitable return missile, turn back in and get a bore sight lock and return fire with an AIM-7, (all I have left by this stage apart from sidewinders). If lucky, I may get one bandit, but am too low for much avoidance and the MIGS fly supernaturally low so maintaining radar lock is difficult. 2. High launch, then ducking low. Again, trying to compete with the AI in low flying & locking-up is impossible. Their off-boresight launches keep you defensive the whole time, and their <200m altitude notching skills are unbeatable. (BTW, in all this, my wingman isn’t much use as he doesn’t seem to want to engage at long / medium range and doesn’t get close enough for a short range shot before he is killed). 3. By now I am thinking, “Let’s get sneaky”. At >50km. Turn radar off, go NOE. Break 90 deg right and head for the coast, (protected by a line of hills). With radar off and flying very low, I skirt round the bandits flight path trying to outflank them but always get ambushed and destroyed. Either they saw me heading to the coast or .. The AI is cheating or .. My wingman is giving me away by not turning his radar off even though I tell him to. (His RWR symbol was still on). That might be a bug as I told him twice. Maybe if I head to the coast earlier they won’t see me? Or I could send my wingman to another waypoint to act as bait or at least stop him waving a big OVER HERE banner with his radar on. Either way, a stand up knife fight isn’t working here as they are really low and jamming. Couple that with the AI’s notch / launch ability makes it very frustrating. As usual guys, any sagely advice would be most welcome.:helpsmilie:

You mean like the old Microprose cardboard overlays? They were brilliant. Seriously though, just print the two one-page pdf's in your game directory. They have most of the keys.
-
As GCTharos pointed out, we won’t be getting the FULL FAT A-10C, but the classified stuff they can’t include won’t affect game play and we don’t notice, (well I won’t - hopefully I will be too busy laughing at all the Ka-50 pilots flailing about because they can’t use the trimmer*). Bring on the HOGS OF WAR!! * That will be me then.

Do fighter pilots have more sex?* Hang on. The thought of Tom Cruise "on the job" has just made my cup of tea go cold. *(With bomber pilots wives)

Crunch. The "Pre launch timer" at the bottom. Is that the "Time to active" for the next missile you fire? So, if you fired NOW it would go active in "9" seconds. Saw ironhands video but that bit didn't sink in my brain.

Replacement parts for TM (Cougar)

I have one ;) No, what I am attempting is to use the H1 with (S3 in) for extenal views; < padlock threat missile > padlock threat aircraft ^ padlock my launched missile to target v rear view Then H1 center resets to view forward. They work as long as i remember to enable NUM Lock beforehand. In the heat of battle......fumble fingers, etc. This way, i hope to get the best of both worlds and increase my SA with Trackir + custom, informative padlocked views.

Fake webpage I reckon, (he said checking his paypal account).

I see what you mean. I was just being lazy, trying to map LOMACS default view keys to the Cougar. The # for comms gave me some trouble as this key, (on uk keyboards) doesnt exist in Korgy. To get around that i simple changed the assigned key in game. I can do this for the views. I just cant see why they missed the Num lock function out. After all, it does affect the keypad functionality.

Long standing misinterpretation on my part about the "C" version. Like I said, monday morning pontification. That and an attempt on my part to understand the dev process as specific to ED with regards their planned upcoming releases. ....and reconcile myself that I probably wont be playing a true next gen A-A fighter in the DCS series for a while.

A-10C. 1st correction. Cheers Viper. How the hell have they managed that? from WIKI The A-10C first deployed to Iraq in the third quarter of 2007 with the 104th Fighter Squadron of the Maryland Air National Guard. The jets include the Precision Engagement Upgrade.[36] The A-10C's digital avionics and communications systems have greatly reduced the time to acquire a close air support target and attack it.[37] I am now a far happier bunny!

Hypothesis ED pursuit of high fidelity avionics & flight model technology driven from cross over development from their military funded projects. Their fidelity goals demand declassified data on modelled systems to achieve maximum possible realism. ***EDITED TO REMOVE MY MISUNDERSTANDING ABOUT AIRFRAME NUMBER RELATING TO TOTAL SYSTEMS MODELLING FOR CLASSIFIED HARDWARE**** Result for immediate project (A-10) Military declassification is only possible / likely on older models of a given aircrafts airframe, (and integrated systems). A-10C will not be modelled,(in its entirety), for this very reason. (So, possibly no FLIR, etc. in new DCS module.) There is no point complaining about this as ED wont model what they don’t have. That is their design goal. We must respect that. Results in future development Current military aviation development has fundamentally shifted since the end of the Cold War and even more so since the end of the Gulf War. The perceived role of military aviation now is primarily CAS & precision strikes as there are few organised “hostile” air forces out there. Afghanistan is a prime example of this type of deployment, (as it was for USSR). A-10 and Apaches are doing the work with a few A-A craft for escort / recon. Witness the troubles of the much vaunted Raptor & Lightning, (F-22 7 F-35), 5th gen fighter projects. They are being hammered by US spending cuts. The govt are wary of spending so much money to “fight who?” My “two pennies worth” As much as I love A-G and flew the A-10 to death in LOMAC and trained myself to fly the KA-50 in DCS, I miss the fast movers. There is nothing quite like a tech-battle BVR encounter turning into a high speed furball over a hostile battlefield to get the blood pounding, (and yes, you can’t help but hum “highway to the danger zone” to yourself!). Whilst I can’t see A-A in the DCS immediate pipeline because of the above, we are at least getting revamped LOMAC in FC2 and for that I thank ED. Ps. please feel free to correct me in any of this. Just my Monday morning, post coffee & flapjack pontificating. Pps. Yes, posted on “lockonfiles as well”, (sorry Crunch), as I want to hear as many opinions as I can, (to see if I am talking out of my backside).

Guys I recently ordered some spares for a refurb of a 2nd hand cougar from TM. They were very reasonably priced and were dispatched from Canada (?) on the 4th (11 days ago). Have any of you had experience of this (to the UK), and do you know how long it should take? I will mail the rep at TM as well but thought i may get a quicker response here. Impatient to get my soldering iron out! :joystick:

Just re-read this post whilst having Korgy open and the keypad "0" is KP0 as Kaiser said, but there is no function that i can see for the same key with NUMLOCK on. Am i being dense? Or would "NUML KP0" work? I cant find any specific reference to this in the docs.

Cheers Viper. Of course, now i have seen that i will have to spend saturday copying it or i will never be satisfied with my settings. should get it done in time for my new radeon 5870 to arrive. dribble. -
Hopefully ED wil have had time to fix such old bugs.

Viper Can i ask what mods or custom .cfg setting you run? Your version of FC looks different (better) than mine. Or is the grass always greener on the other side? -
Thanks guys. It still feels unnatural to go lower than a bandit. Too much time playing WW2 sims where height is everything. Hopefully, with FC2 using the DCS terrain, there will be much more opportunity for NOE tactics and evasion. And the F-15 radar will be fixed.

Stay below them? Everything i've been told refers to maintianing a height advantage before entering ACM. Is this just to prevent their "notching" from fooling my radar?
