Clear and understandable explanation. Yes - the modified P/S 2 interface the Thrustmaster / Virpil ecosystems does give you more options for interchangeability without spending $200-300 on new bases everytime. On the $800 all in Winwing solution, I think you may get your wish... it sounds like they are open minded to sell the throttle separately in the future... just not on release as they are currently all geared up for satisfying demand for the whole HOTAS setup. It certainly makes their warehouse / logistics easier. But be patient and keep on at them to see the throttle separately!

Not knocking VKB and Virpil's excellent bases at all, but this does not look like a half arsed amateur hour effort to me...

Very positive post with useful information!

Maybe your response is somewhat "lost in translation" from your mother language into English. Please don't assume that you are talking to a dummy. While not specifically an injection moulding engineer, I do - at least - have a degree in Engineering and I can understand the issues involved. Did I mention the word "cheap" once? Err.... no. Not once. I did ask about grip wall thickness. And besides the defensive sounding response ("cheap... cheap... cheap..." etc) your explanation that 1) your design team is not considering changing casting wall thickness and 2) changing the wall thickness would cause considerable technical changes in the moulding technology and layout, are clear responses. I actually own Hilti power tools chosen partly on the basis of their "gold standard" injection moulding materials, design and manufacturing excellence. I like nice things: sue me. No professional in casting plastic: fair comment. Tactile feelings: actually this is pretty important, so shame on him for removing these impressions from his video. Sounds like me that consumers may need to treat Noobifier's "reviews" as a "paid product promotion" in the future.

Curious... I understand the excitement over the throttle; me too. Why aren't people getting equally hyped about the grip? Because you make do with a Warthog or Virpil Mongoos or whatever?

It is old news, but if it is new to you just look here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrfUSM_r82yBrMreUus0Cdw

In another micro niche, there is a corresponding F/A-18 grip competition going on between Thrustmaster and WinWing. But at least there is transparency there over release dates and prices. It would be good customer relations to give additional transparency: 1) Virpil now, 2) VKB in 1 or 2 months, or 3) VKB in >2 months? Which is it fellas? Long wait or short wait?

That looks like Glenmorangie in place of and oxygen bottle! ????

In moving from 1 SSD to 1 HDD + 1 Optane You've just replaced one potential point of failure with two potential points of failure. Given that you'd better hope that the reliability for your HDD and the Optane are significantly better than the SSD. And the data on failure rates does not back your personal point of view / personal experience*. * Caveat, SSDs run poorly if operated at >90% capacity utilisation. In which case you ARE asking from trouble.

Hmm... and this is the point and the problem with MSAA. It would be nice if game developers worked on the MSAA to include a tag or something that instructed the MSAA algorithm to prevent anti aliasing on the dot.

Cool, thank you Bob.

I have clickable cockpit enabled. And I see the white dot when I want to interact with menus like radio commands etc. But the problem is different. When you have text boxes (listing what the mission narrator just read out) the first 20 or so lines of text area available to read, but if the instructions are lengthy I can't scroll the text up so as to be able to read the end of the instructions.

Please don't flame me if these are dumb questions... I am a VR newby. 1) Is there a way of seeing outside the VR world while still wearing the VR headset... a mapable button or something I can press while in DCS using VR so I can see my keyboard for a second or two, kit a key and then do back into VR? 2) On missions sometimes text panels get cut off and I can't read all the text. Is there a way of scrolling the text so that I can read the bottom of the text panel? Besides this, overall impression moving from a 27" high resolution monitor with TrackIR to the Rift S is very positive. You give up resolution, but get a massive upgrade in immersion and situational awareness. Thanks for answering / any advice. (Sorry if the questions are dumb.)

High end PSU gone in spectacular fashion
Waxer replied to gabgio's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had a Corsair RM1000i go pop on me a year ago. The PSU was only about 3 years old and used well within specifications. Pop happened when switching on. Literally... very loud pop (as loud as a 9mm pistol being fired at 1m range with no ear defenders, so my ears were ringing for a few minutes. Flash of blue light, followed by smoke. PSU dead after that but fortunately it did not damage any of the rest of my components attached to it. Replacement PSU... I went with EVGA. But to be fair any PSU is only as good as its weakest link and capacitors do sometimes just go pop early. It is just one of those things and one reason why it is worth getting a PSU with a warranty. -
I just checked for you: it is working for me. Try again, otherwise the problem is your end.

A word of warning about monstertech desk mounts
Waxer replied to Swampy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Genuinely sorry to hear that Swampy. Obviously the carriage from Germany to US makes it extra expensive for you. Have you sent Olsen an email to explain your issues and make sure it gets sorted out to your satisfaction. I've communicated with him and I've found him very responsive and helpful. If you send to info@monstertech.de he will get the message. He can also be found here on the DCS forum if you DM him: meisterolsen Hope this helps. -

A word of warning about monstertech desk mounts
Waxer replied to Swampy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had no problems with my Monstertech order: two desk mounts and two adapter plates. Excellent design, correct parts included, no defects, good packing, fast delivery and dispatch. Sorry to hear that things did not go as they should have for you, but one batch of orders having a problem does not mean that the whole company is bad. The main focus should be - given a mistake was made - how they deal with correcting the mistake. And secondly, take steps to prevent it happening again. I know that the CEO was explaining that they have taken on a lot of new staff this year... maybe he needs to make sure new people are as well trained, motivated and generally "on the ball" as the long standing staff members? Small company, growing pains and all that. -
@Sokol1_br ...Yes more pictures please, if available! Very excited to get access to this grip with a Gunfighter base. Am also considering the Virpil F-14 grip dependent on availability. I am not necessarily going to get the first to market, but I don't want to be left hanging for 6-12 months waiting for availability of VKB if the Virpil product is available immediately. On the subject of comparisons, the Noobifier did some good videos comparing the internal design of the VKB MCG grip and the VPC MongoosT-50. I thought the engineering inside the VKB grip was much better designed (screwed in daughter PCBs, not hot glued). However one criticism of the VKB grip (also noted by other reviewers) was that the grip's plastic seemed thin in comparison to the more solid feeling of the Virpil which had thicker side walls. So question: Not sure if you are working for VKB, Sokol, but do you know if VKB have taken account of that feedback with the VFX grip and are making the grip wall thicker than the MCG? Thanks.

CPU upgrade recommendation for VR 2.0
Waxer replied to Kirin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Hans, No. I have two setups. 1) A 5280x2880 monitor (Dell Ultrasharp UP2715K) with a TrackIR 5 head tracker and 2) a new Oculus Rift S VR setup that I am currently getting to grips with. In the VR world I've only had direct experience of the Rift S. Not had any experience of older VR headsets nor of the HP Reverb or the Valve Index, both of which I am interested in. (I've been reading their threads on this forum to learn peoples' experience with these). -
Yes. That is exactly the point I was making. Your statement was too absolute. And as for the rest of what you say. That is all obvious. Such is life for people wanting the bleeding edge of tech rather than mid range tech.

"The 2080ti isn't worth its asking price..." If you don't have enough food to feed your family the RTX 2080 Ti is not worth its asking price. If you are a billionaire the RTX 2080 Ti is easily worth its asking price. If you are somewhere in between the perceived value of the RTX 2080 Ti varies between those two extreams. It might not be worth it to you. But it is to me.

CPU upgrade recommendation for VR 2.0
Waxer replied to Kirin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Also, I read today that AMDs performance comparison slides did not apply the latest security patches to Intel's 9900K (which would slow the Intel) and did not use the latest build of Windows 10 on AMD (which loads single chipsets before loading the other which would speed the AMD if used). So on that basis the AMD promises much. Wait for independent testing? The golden rule is wait. But those that waited on RTX 2080 Ti were left waiting a month before having a chance to jump onboard after launch. Does that matter to you? Only you can say. -
LOL. :smartass:
