I don't experience any tracking problems, except when I start in a lit room and over the course of a session it gets dark outside and I end up (unknowingly) in a dark room. With interior lights turned on, problem is solved.

Everyone's opinion of this will differ, but to me 45 fps is not particularly smooth. Particularly if that is an average with 1% minimums even lower than that.

His point is that the real life sticks fitted to F/A-18Cs are resin. Therefore just because the replicas are made of metal does not make them good. And on that I agree. Resin would have been even better, but presumably much more expensive to do at equal quality to what Boeing is specifying for their aircraft. However cheap brittle plastic is far worse, so on that measure metal is likely to be a lot more sturdy so long as the gimbal is designed for that kind of weight. (Which it clearly will be).

4 mins into this and the guy's frame rate is jerky as hell. He's only on a 1070 or was that 1070 Ti, so that explains that to some extent. And he already admitting that when he sits back in his seat he can't see much detail on the dials; when he leans forward almost to his desk he can read most dials (kinda, just) but still not all of them... 8 mins... I just can't watch it... the frame rate is too choppy. Terrible advert for VR that is for sure.

Yeah. This is a good point to make. A lot of the VR Youtubers out there are reviewing the headsets from the perspective of the general user. And even when they do views of "How is XYZ headset for DCS?" or "...for Elite Dangerous"... or whatever we've got to take whatever they say with a grain of salt. Clarity REQUIREMENTS for a car racing sim < requirements for Elite < requirements for a simple analogue DCS module like the F-86 < requirements for a technical DCS module like the F/A-18C with all its displays, moving maps and whatnots. We really need a DCS specialist like Spud or Magz to take a look across these products. Either that or teach Sebastian how to fly in DCS. (I was watching a JayzTwoCents video on VR where he played some DCS. To be fair he said he can't fly, but it was painful to watch).

FYI: Looks like WinWing is delaying the preorder from 1 July (today) to 5 July due to problems getting their website ready.

Throttle: I use a Thrustmaster Warthog throttle. The throttle itself is fine. Quite a few controls on it. Ability to use it with an afterburner detent or not (user adjustable, but requires tools so not on the fly). One weak point is a poor slew joystick. Hence many (including me) upgrade the slew joystick using an aftermarket joystick (requires opening up the throttle and voiding warranty, potentially also causing damage if you botch the mod up). Virpil have their own throttle available last time I looked - version 2. I haven't seen one so can't really give useful feedback on it. As to the quality and longevity of both, I don't know. There are some reports of problems with the TM's buttons, but it has been out a long time. But also reports of problems with the Virpil and that is a lot newer, so hardly encouraging. The TM weights a lot, but take stops it moving if no mounted on your desk... I don't think it tells you anything about the quality of it, or not.

You could go Virpil: WarBRD base + Constellation DELTA Grip This constellation was designed for Elite / Star Citizen / space sims. However I recommend it for two reasons: 1) it has the twist Z axis that you are looking for. 2) It also has a gazillion buttons that you can use to map to the F-16 module. Something to think about anyways. Have fun.

That's great! Stay cool. 8)

Haa haa. Sure, why not? It is something I would be prepared to do on principle depending on the time commitment. But in principal, sure I would be happy to help. I am a native English speaker anyways.

"Proof read". Not "proofread".

You are talking about the "Warthog stick" which from the context of your observation I take to mean the combination of a Warthog base and a Warthog grip. (And I agree with your observation on that basis). I have the Virpil WarBRD base and a Warthog base. The Warthog base sucks. Therefore I use my Warthog grip (which is good) on my Virpil base (which is excellent). And that is a good combo. But the point is that there is nothing much wrong with the Warthog grip.

You pays y're money and y're takes y'r choice. But I plugged in my Rift S and to borrow a quote from Jensen Huang: "It just works". I've not had most of the problems experienced by some others. One thing I have experienced which has not been 100% is very occasional white noise type screen flashes. But this does not happen very often. And the flash is gone as quick as it happened. Is it perfect? No. It is good? Yes. How does it compare to the Index and Reverb, specifically in DCS? Currently, I don't know.

Winwing: what can be done about your website? I will find it a deal breaker to conduct a financial transaction / give financial information over a non https website. Is this being handled by a third party or are you upgrading your website to provide a secure connection?
-
I have no problem accessing the site. However I am getting a "not secure" flag on the website. Maybe your security settings are preventing you from accessing it?

Yeah, and this is a relatively early stage technology... they should be able to really push the technology far beyond what we are getting now over the next 5 years.

I also took at look at your proposed PC specification: it really is a very nice, top end PC. All great components without any obvious weak links. There are various arguments out there to wait for the new AMD processors, but I really would not bother given your criteria. A system based around RTX2080Ti and 9900K/OC 4.9... you will get a current top end DCS performance with that rig.

In single player also press the Oculus menu / camera passthrough button to see the keyboard. Not an option for VR without external cameras. Also not an option for multiplayer. I think I will try the VoiceAttack solution. Buying it today. Might as well wait till the Steam sale to see if I can get it a few quid cheaper.

I am balancing this dilemma myself currently. Got TrackIR and high resolution monitor and a Rift S. Rift S is exceptionally immersive, and general visual quality and frame rates are decent but reading moving maps and small MFD screens is still tricky... you still need to know what is on the MFD to understand which button to press. So not ideal. Watching the HP Reverb and Steam Index to see how well they perform in comparison to the Rift S. So I think VR is getting close to totally replacing big screens + TrackIR, but we are probably on the cusp but not quite there yet. As it stands right now, it is pretty close between both with pros and cons.

Please... stop. This is a family friendly forum.

Folks: If someone has information to share about the device... like they have one and it is trash, or they have one and it is epic along with an explanation that would be great. Or I have one and the buttons stopped working. Or I have just ordered one from xxx retailer and delivery is expected on xxx date. But if you are not planing on buying this stick, why do you think anyone else is interested? Why share such information? Do you really think I care about how you spend your money? Give me one good reason why I should care?

Hi Sorry, not 100% sure what you mean. If you are asking about Corsair PSU warranty I think that depends on which PSU. Low end PSUs have warranty of 3 years. Then mid end PSUs have warranties of 5 years, 7 year and the top of the range have 10 years warranty. My RM1000i had a 10 year warranty and I got a replacement PSU from Corsair for the one that failed. By that time that had arrived (despite Advanced RMA) I'd already bought a replacement, so I just sold the new / replacement on eBay.

Yeah, I agree that it would be nice to have some reviews before preorder date. But I expect I will wing it and preorder anyway. So you might get an independent mini-review from me. At least I can guarantee objectivity as I will have paid using my own funds and have no influence on me from the manufacturer.
