The other 4 steps I've done except for 3 since I own AIRIO. I'm not sure how #2 would work other than a reset. Something odd is going on. I've gone back and loaded an older mission file that I made and everything works fine. That got me thinking that maybe it was a supercarrier module issue, but when I changed the carrier to the Stennis in this new mission file and deleted all the Burkes, the problem persists. EDIT: I built a quick mission from scratch and everything works fine in it as well. I'm not sure why VAICOM doesn't like this particular mission file. Like I said, using the Jester wheel and normal comms menu, everything still works the way it should.

Also tried a reset but no joy. Exact same issues before and after.

Trying to issue wingman commands, I get sort of a muted 'mike flash' kind of sound, and no text of any kind. It's the same thing that happens when it's working and you try to issue a command to a wingman who has been shot down or destroyed, like there is nobody to talk to. The link host deal with AIRIO has me stumped as well. AIRIO seems to be working okay except for this one thing. If I go 'link host' to see choices, it doesn't list any. It's as if it's not seeing the ships and awacs available for link. Does it matter which frequencies you set in the ME? I don't use the default ones that pop up with any of the units.

Well, deleting the export lua did nothing. I'm at a loss here. :(

Been having trouble with VAICOM and AIRIO for a month or so now. AI RIO won't recognize link hosts and now voice commands to wingmen are not being recognized in either the Hornet or Tomcat. Reading through the manual, it says a possible fix is to delete the export.lua file. Going into the Saved Games folder, there is a scripts folder, inside which there is a file with this name. There is also a VAICOMPRO folder with a file inside it called VAICOMPRO.Export.lua. Which of these files is the one you are supposed to delete? Thanks.

I think it was purely for cosmetics. There was no aerodynamic reason to manually sweep the wings full aft coming into the overhead. 11. "Thou shalt look cool around the Boat at all times." Remember the 11th Commandment and keep it wholly. ;)

I used labels for this too.

New demo file at the link in the OP. Basically incorporated the change of 'protagonist', which involved re-doing a bunch of the conversations. The flow of the mission is unchanged.

2 Things 1: When designing a mission, accounting for variables in startup time can seriously bork a mission timeline. Especially when some people can do it faster than the auto function and some take half the day. There are some workarounds for this, but it's more effort for the mission designer. That said, I've started designing most of my missions cold-start. 2: You can go into any custom mission you like, select the player aircraft, and under the first waypoint change it from 'hot start' or 'start on runway' to 'start on ramp.' If you're too lazy to do that with a freeware mission file that somebody else put their time and effort into creating, feel free to design and play your own stuff. Not everyone plays the way you do. For payware missions and campaigns, feel free to vote with your wallet.

Couple of things that are decided and/or going to change in the final mission pack, as discovered from additional mission building / testing: 1. Player will NOT play the role of CAG. Rather, two different pilots will 'star' in the missions. One for the Tomcat, one for the Hornet. That means a lot of the comms and banter in the demo mission will be somewhat different in the final form. 2. Definitely voice over just text. There are certain times where too much is going for the player to have to focus on reading- the auditory cues are essential. Still interested in feedback on the demo mission.

I had it happen on 3A- I didn't need to tank to make it back to the boat, so for me the mission was broken into two pieces instead of 3. IIRC from my first playthrough, the same problem occurred on 3B. I've never played M3 straight through with the multiple AARs.

I can confirm this also. Looks like a real traffic jam.

feedback Raven One Campaign Review / Feedback
jmarso replied to jmarso's topic in F/A-18C Raven One Campaign
Just replayed M2 after the patch and that was the first time it worked correctly for me. Didn't even hardly realize what I was missing, but I definitely missed a trigger or something the first couple of times. Also, pleased to report this was my FIRST TIME EVER plugging the basket in the Hornet and actually staying in it long enough to get some dang fuel. Finally getting the hang of AAR!! -
For all you Tomcat aficionados, see the below link for a new demo mission, the first of an intended story-driven mission pack that will incorporate both Tomcat and Hornet single-player missions. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=286765

For anyone deciding to take this mission for a spin, I'd appreciate your feedback in this thread. Specifically, I have one major question for anyone who plays it: 1. Would it be better to do just text messages with an auditory cue (to make sure you aren't looking away and miss it), or is it better with the full voice messaging, robotic though most of it it sounds? Sometimes I think you get more of the inflection and 'flavor' of what's being said by just reading it. Especially considering that the voice mods essentially give Jester two different voices: the game's, and the mod's. Thoughts and opinions? Thanks.

Flashpoint 2010 Chronology MAR 2004: Following the death of the Russian President in an equestrian mishap, Russian leadership falls to Yuri Sokolov, who leads a hardline faction considered even more ruthless than the previous leadership. SEP 2004: Given its versatility as a long-range striker over Afghanistan, DOD puts the planned retirement of the F-14 Tomcat on indefinite hold. Procurement of the F-14 Tomcat 21 and ASF-14 variants tentatively moves forward. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet program is put on hiatus. Plans to retire the S-3B tanker fleet are also suspended. JAN 2008: The worst January in almost a decade for the stock market due to the exposure of bond insurance companies. OCT 2008: The Dow loses 18% of its value, and the S&P falls more than 20%. The head if the IMF warns that the world is on the brink of an economic meltdown. NOV 2008: Russian President Sokolov enters secret talks with the leadership in Tehran over how to combat falling oil prices and best capitalize on the west’s economic misfortunes. MAR 2009: The DOW hits its lowest level, down 54% from its prior peak in OCT of 2007. JUN 2009: Iran and Russia complete a secret agreement that involves the transfer of a regiment of advanced fighters, a trio of A-50 AWACS aircraft, and advanced weapons. In addition, many personnel accompany the hardware, under the guise of ‘military advisors’, like similar Russian ventures during the Vietnam War. NOV 2009: Iran begins threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz, which immediately sends oil prices soaring back above $50 per barrel, benefiting both Iranian and Russian energy industries. As Sokolov’s government sees it, a strong enough spike in oil prices will offset the price of the hardware sold to Iran for pennies on the dollar. DEC 2009: The United States NCA directs an immediate redeployment of U.S. Marines from Iraq to an afloat Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG), to provide a rapid reaction force in the Arabian Gulf itself. Marine forces begin preparations to withdraw from Iraq through Kuwait. JAN 2010: Iran and Russia cement their new regional partnership and internally announce the establishment of the ‘Russian Volunteer Group,’ or ‘RVG’, an organization said to be like the ‘Flying Tigers’ of WWII fame. In essence, adventure-minded Russian volunteers are ‘resigning’ from Russia’s armed forces to form a mercenary air force to aid the Iranians in enforcing their will in the Gulf. Oil Prices, May 2008: $153 per Barrel Oil Prices, Jan 2009: $51 per Barrel Oil Prices, Jan 2010: $116 per Barrel and rising. FEB 2010: USS Tarawa ESG transits the Strait of Hormuz to embark Marine units in Kuwait and take up station in the Arabian Gulf. USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), the centerpiece of Carrier Strike Group TWO, along with Carrier Air Wing SIXTEEN are five months into a planned six to seven-month deployment in the Fifth Fleet AOR.

Mediafire Link: Link removed. Full release pending. Flashpoint 2010 README Excerpt: This is the first mission of an intended pack of story-driven single player missions for the F-14B Tomcat and F/A-18C Hornet. The missions will be set in the Persian Gulf in February of 2010, in a history slightly altered from our own. A chronology of this history and the composition of Carrier Strike Group TWO, Carrier Air Wing SIXTEEN, and Expeditionary Strike Group FOUR are included in the documents folder of the download file. This first sample mission is for the F-14B. It’s a night CAP assignment with a cold ramp start aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt. A detailed briefing is included, along with custom kneeboard cards containing flight plan, communications, and brevity code information for the mission. The mission contains many voiced characters, but most of them are going to have that somewhat ‘robotic’ sound to them. ;) All voice messages are accompanied by text messages for clarity. As the player, you take on the role of ‘CAG’, or the Air Wing Commander. The purpose of this is to lend credibility to your flying multiple aircraft types throughout the various missions- something real-life CVW commanders do. This mission and those to follow attempt to strike a balance between scripted story elements and player choice / flexibility. The player will maintain tactical control over their own wingmen and be able to use in-game assets like AWACS normally, make their own decisions to tank or not, etc. The scripted elements are added for flavor and to advance the storyline. An unfortunate side effect of this blending is that occasionally the two want to talk over one another, particularly Jester with his ‘nails’ calls. As such, the player may want to order Jester to be silent to reduce the occasional voice conflicts. This issue will not be nearly as significant in the future missions using the F/A-18C. This mission is designed to reflect actual USN procedures and practices with a reasonable degree of accuracy. It’s presented as a demo for the upcoming pack, which will be released as a free user files download. Although proper frequency management is required for the regular game elements, the scripted voice portions are set to play regardless of where the radios are set. This is another attempt to balance realism and playability. ‘Easy comms’ is not ‘locked out’ of the mission, so those who like to use that function still can. Some critical communications are tied to mission waypoints, so be sure to hit those as briefed. The link at the top of the post is to the Mediafire download. I will not be placing this demo in the DCS User Files section, but the final mission pack will be available both as a Mediafire download and in the DCS website User Files section. Module Requirements for the Demo: DCS Open Beta Supercarrier module F-14 Tomcat module by Heatblur Persian Gulf Map Recommended Mods: Tactical Call Sign Mod Version 1.1 https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.c...files/3302236/ This mod will make callsigns match the mission designs and briefs. The missions will still function without them, but portions of the briefs and the kneeboard cards will no longer make sense. Although listed as recommended, it is very nearly a requirement.

Okay, this deal is not reproduceable in every mission, nor is it a specific day / night thing like I thought it might be at first. Everything still works normally without AIRIO using the Jester wheel. I've troubleshot a lot of different configurations- hot start, cold start, different freqs onthe units, different carriers, but can't really nail it down. My gut instinct right now is that it's a SC / cold start issue where something isn't happening that happens automatically on a hot start, but I can't say for certain. Also, the missions where everything is working fine I hear the background CV chatter. It's notably missing at the times the link stuff is messed up. Weird.

Okay, how should the radios be set up in the 'Cat? Building a mission using presets in both radios and am running into a few small issues. My question for those knowledgeable on this subject is this: which radio was considered 'primary' and which 'secondary'? I know the RIO has the 182 in back with a wider freq range, while the 159 is up front and UHF only. Which one was used as the slush radio for talking to the wingman, etc, and which one was used for serious communicating? It seems like the 182 would be considered primary, right? After a year of playing DCS I'm finally moving away from 'easy comms,' even with Jester back there supposedly handling all that stuff for me.:D
-
I also had this happen sporadically, although not in the past several days. Not sure if it was the game per se or my CPU getting hot when running it.

Hey guys. All of a sudden I'm having an issue where Jester will respond and select link mode, but when it comes to link host he's telling me none are available, when I've got a carrier and an E-2 both in the mission. I disabled VAICOM and restarted, and was able to work everything normally through the Jester menu, so my guess is that AIRIO is glitching here somewhere. This was happening before and after the latest beta update. This is happening in a night mission. Don't know if that matters but there was another bug about a year with radar locks that were only happening at night as well, and that one was resolved. Curious if this is a known issue or anyone else has encountered it.

Hey guys, looking for some good templates for relatively generic kneeboard mission data cards. I'm primarily interested in a two-card format. Page one being unit/ flight plan data, and page two being for the comm plan. Anyone have or know of some good resources on this? Thanks!
-
It's all there on the kneeboard cards. Take another look. ;) In some missions you are directed to revert to the game's default menus / comms for recovery.

Heh. Explain that to the captain IRL.
