  1. I can't watch the RC plane video because of blocked music content but if it is something like the RC car video then people who do shit like this should get slapped in the face, hard, and lose their drivers license, no questions asked.
  2. The problem with sims today is that they are just that: Simulations. And nothing more. Any of ye older folks remember 25 years ago? Sims back then were more like games with campaigns and stories. Some told a story, some were more like a war dairy, some had dynamic campaigns, some showed old newspaper articles. Basically you knew why you flew. There was always context for your actions. And back then sims or sim-like games had some of the most amazing presentations in terms of graphics that you could have at the time. And all of this drew people in. Not just the fancy simulation aspect. Nowadays it's mostly either "play multiplayer against other people" (World of Tanks et al.) or "you can really, Really, REALLY learn how to operate this plane". But for single players sims miss the "Why do I fly?" aspect. There is no context. No campaign, no story, no war. Just flying. And that is just not enough to make the sim genre big again. Honestly, if a part of the industry rediscovered games that are comparable in complexity and story telling to for example TIE Fighter I would be totally fine with that. At the moment I don't fly any sims at all because a) I have other games that interest me more and b) sims are just plain boring these days. Yeah sure, it's great to learn how to operate this or that plane in detail but what do you do once you are done with that? There is no interesting context in which you can play with that thing that you just learned. The most interesting thing I found over the last couple of years was actually Air Hauler in FSX.
  3. Missing option: I don't watch cooking shows.
  4. Helmet you say? Helmet - The Video A musical tribute to using a bionic arm to punch people right out of their headgear. Scored to wonderful tune "Snake Eyes" by David Holmes! (gameplay from Metal Gear Solid V)
  5. Probably staring at that giant white sea creature, that seems to lurk under the surface in the top right corner.
  6. I mean, he's not wrong...
  7. Well, the MiG-29 certainly looks better than ye olde F-16, which is good enough for me. ;)
  8. Nice. :)
  9. Oh wow! Na wir können doch nicht so ohne weiteres Euch Schweizern unsere hochgeheime 5-strahlige NATO Technologie verraten!:smilewink:
  10. I was looking at this gif for probably a minute thinking to myself "Well... what did he expect?! What the bloody hell did he thing would happen there?!":doh:
  11. Finally, the Star Wars we all waited for!
  12. Prove it, show us that you are not boring. :-) Why not install a couple of webcams in your house and let us watch what's going on. I mean you are no low life scum so you got nothing to hide and shouldn't be worried, right? :-)
  13. It isn't even that much about giving data. The real question is: Why do they want it in the first place, what are they going to do with it and how can they make sure that this data doesn't fall into the wrong hands or gets stolen or abused? (Spoiler: They can't. And they never will.) We are already giving away enough personal information about ourselves (and worse: friends and family) to companies and governments so the reaction should not be "oh, what harm could it be if I provide data to one more company?". You are joking, right? I mean... you don't seriously believe this, right? You might want to check your numbers.
  14. For a lot of people GFE is probably a pretty neat tool that adds some welcome features to their gaming experience. (Not for me though, but who cares.) And to get it out there to people bundling is basically the only option. If people would have to go to the Nvidia site and look for an additional download no one would use it. Well, I guess the other option would be going the Windows route of bugging the hell out of users with "Here is something you should know!" popups or notifications, but **** that. So yeah, adding it to the driver was the only sensible thing Nvidia could have done to get it out into the wild. Nothing wrong here. What is wrong of course is installing it by default, without telling people exactly what they get and what it is for and not giving them a clear and easy choice, and all that account and data collecting stuff.
  15. Well, the real problem here is that every modern game needs its own bloody driver. Without this nonsense we wouldn't even have a tool like GFE. And no matter if GFE sucks or not (I think it does): What are the alternatives? If nothing changes the market share of AMD will be nonexistent soon. From a technical standpoint I'd say Nvidia is still the best option so I guess we will have to find some way to make the best out of this situation.
  16. That's what I did in the past and that worked pretty okay for me (it's Windows we are talking about here, so of course it occasionally ****ed things up, but I can't remember the details). Nowadays I play on consoles which simplifies a lot of things. Probably my choice in the long run. Or one central USB hub to unplug everything all at once. But again, Windows. I wouldn't be surprised if this won't work on occasion.
  17. Oh my. Well, if the VR doesn't make him puke pretty sure this might finish the job. :joystick: :puke:
  18. Seriously? [...] is this? This is terrible! What kind of [...] would do something like that to another person? This was so painful to watch, I feel really sorry for the girl. And if someone did that to me, I am not sure if he would be able to leave the airfield without help after that... [...]
  19. Well, true, but if we look to the classics for council we can clearly see how some low tech can overcome even the fiercest odds. Independence Day teaches us that you can bring down an entire alien invasion fleet with just a rugged bunch of F/A-18. Well, and an Apple Powerbook. And even a mob of rebel malcontents are able to destroy the shining beacon of civilization with just hokey religions and ancient starfighters. Incidentally, both accomplished by crop dusting farmers. So in regard of the Bird of Prey I'd say: Gimme a bunch of farmers and a squad of A-10's and we'll down the bitch. Well, or some Bf 109 and dinosaurs - because everything is better with dinosaurs.
  20. You guys are - of course - all wrong, stop embarrassing yourself. See, if you download the header image and take a look at it, you will notice that its dimensions are 3500 x 126, which equals to 441000. Now add 4+4+1 (forget the zeros, no one cares about those insubstantial losers) and you get 9. 9! There, don't you see it?! 3 times 3 equals 9! 3! It's all about the 3! What other reason could they possibly have to pick the above image dimensions other then that it all comes down to the 3?! Do you see it now?! Half-Life 3 & DCS crossover confirmed! That's why we haven't heard news about HL3 all these years! Not because Valve are a bunch of lazy bums, its because Valve is secretly working together with ED to build one giant master piece! One game to rule them all, first person shooters and sims! Oh think of the possibilities! A military grade gravity gun mounted on a Huey! Dropping headcrabs from a Warthog! Prancing around in a strider! Flying CAS for Gordon Freeman! (Well, unfortunately for him he is mute, so he can't call it in, but that's of course his problem!) The possibilities are endless! And even more insidious, those sneaky bastards at ED don't have to worry about compelling campaigns any more because obviously Valve would build the campaign. How ingenious! I am impressed, ED! Well played. I for one welcome our new headcrab dropping overlords!

  22. I am poking my head out of sim hibernation just to say that this is a great post and I totally agree. The points you made are exactly why I lost interrest in sims a couple of month ago. Flying a fancy plane is nice but when your surroundings feel sterile it gets boring. At the moment even the explosion of 3rd party planes doesn't really tickle my fancy. Anyways, the news about the graphics improvements sound great!
  23. This is indeed sad news.
