OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

Is there a way to stream DCS VR while using OpenXR and not be limited to the tall narrow window? -
I agree, that's the just change I saw after applying the mod. whether it was actually the mod, a side affect of applying mod, or something completely unrelated... who knows. it's just what happened. Although I think DCS -> VR > IPD is actually "world size" not parallax
-
I applied this mod, and here's what it LOOKED like it did.... I'm not saying it actually did what I'm about to describe, and I'm no expert in human vision, but here goes... There are two things that contribute to depth perception that I know of... 1) parallax, the difference between the images sent to the left and right eyes and.. 2) the relative (speed of) motion of objects. Essentially closer objects seem to move faster than than those that are far away. This mod seems to affected #2 above.... doesnt seem right, I wouldnt think that possible, and it's probably not... but to me (and dimension is in the eye of the beerholder of course).. that's what happened. the relative speed of motion between objects at different distances seems to have subtly changed... did that actually happen? I have no idea... i'll keep the changes for now:)

so I had this working, but... I removed the mod with OvGME, cleaned the install, upgraded to the latest DCS Release, reenabled the mod in OvGME and now every time I start DCS, Steam starts.... what am I missing? I've tried several times but steam runs every time:( -
If this could be used along with leap motion to actually "feel" the controls in DCS while you interact with them, I'd be very happy.... The open question is whether or not enough is exposed on the DCS side to write some code to do the integration with DCS... From their website... "Note that TactGlove is compatible with Meta Quest and Ultraleap’s Leap motion camera-based hand tracking systems."

to continue from my comments above - the trade off you are making is... MR on - smoother (if you cannot maintain a frame rate equal to or greater than your headset refresh rate) through frame interpolation, but at the cost of sharpness and GPU time (to create the additional frames) MR Off - sharper, lower gpu load, but you live with the frame rate you can produce with no interpolation help, so if your frame rate is lower than your HMD refresh rate you get studders. if you are close to your headset refresh rate most of the time and can tolerate the studders that's the way to go. If there is a big gap, because you want all the eye candy - shadows, LOD, clouds etc... then for most of us that arent at the top of the power curve (12th Gen Intel and a 3090) then we need to resort to MR or live without as much eye candy.... What makes this complicated is there are literally 100s of independent variables that we are trying to optimize between Nvidia CPL, OpenXr, DCS, Windows 11, etc... I feel like I could write a whole guide, but then I'm not flying which is no fun lol.... so i'll just say this... like in economics the more variables you can eliminate and hold constant the easier it will be to determine your future! Get rid of as many moving parts as possible:) -

Agreed, I don't have a G2.. I'm using an Odyssey+, still waiting to splurge for the next gen leap lol. Although the behavior should be similar if you're not using MR and your system is producing a frame rate way below your headset refresh rate, you will see studdering - the degree of which is directly related to the difference between the two. whether or not you find lower HMD refresh rates acceptable to your stomach and head is a completely different question:) -

I've found there's more to the equation than simply MR off/on. If I run MR on, it's smoother, but GPU use is higher and image quality suffers. If I run MR off, the image is sharper and GPU usage is lower, BUT I get studders IF the frame rate is significantly below the headset refresh rate. For example, when MR is off and I get 50-60fps but my headset is set for 90hz i get studders. if I change my headset to 60fps.. studders are pretty much gone unless the fps continues to drop below the headset refresh rate. In other words there are a lot of dependent variables here at play.... -

Yes, I tried that, however I'm suspicious that my setting have been corrupted or left in an inconsistent state and would like them to be rebuilt. Maybe they're in the registry somewhere?- 688 replies

OpenXR Toolkit Tuning Guide (updated 21/02/23)
j9murphy replied to edmuss's topic in Virtual Reality
I have all of this set up and working, however after tweaking the settings several times, I'm no longer seeing the frame rate "lock" to 45,30,22 etc... it's just floating. It was working before, and I can still get the menu in game. (MR set to unlocked, always on).. any idea what would make the frame rate float up and down without locking in now?- 688 replies

Slightly off topic, but I'm definitely CPU limited now - is there a thread or doc somewhere which describes which graphics options are cpu intensive and which are gpu intensive so that I can make some tradeoffs? -

OpenXR with DCS is really a game changer for me... Odyssey Plus VR Headset 9700k OC to 5Ghz 32GB RAM 2080Ti PD 1.0 / OpenXR 150%, MR On/Unlocked DCS Settings mostly cranked up (terrain shadows still flat, MSAA 2x) These settings give me 30hz with MR filling in to 90. I dont get much in the way of blurries with the MR, probably because the headset doesn't quit have the resolution of a G2... I can dial back OpenXR or DCS settings a little when using multiplayer or missions with a lot of AI, but this gives me the clearest/sharpest and smoothest FPS of anything I have tried... and i have tried a lot! Definitely a keeper. -
Advice Extension vs No Extension (WarBRD vs T-50CM2 Base)
j9murphy replied to ESzczesniak's topic in VIRPIL Controls
You can match the length, but you probably would be way off in terms of the throw. You're probably better off staying closer on the throw... too long a stick and you're really reaching your arm out, although you can use curves to make up for some of that... just some thoughts... -
is your 9700k overclocked? I run 5Ghz on all cores on mine. multiplayer is definitely harder on the CPU.
-
To get the "value" out of the aero with DCS do you need to have a 3090 and current gen CPU? Is anyone using a 2080ti and 10th Gen intel CPU successfully?
-
I two have a O+ and have considered going to the G2... for those that have done that did you miss the wider FOV of the O+?
-
I may get more fps but i get worse quality. I can make the same tradeoff with PD and SS and I seem to get better results. Maybe its just my subjective view of my personal preferences but I can't get a better perf/quality balance with it than than I'm able to get without it. Could be I just havnt tried the settings yet though I guess.
