Where can I find documentation around which accelerations (surge, heave, sway) go into the table values that LoGetAccelerationUnits returns when placed in the Export.lua file?
-
turning MR on increases the load on your gpu... that's where MR is implemented:) MR is sending 90fps to your headset even though DCS may only be producing 30.

I am able to configure a joystick button for centering in XRNS and have the same button for VR Center defined in DCS, however XRNS does not seem to recognize when the button is pushed... any ideas?

solved problem assigning views to HOTAS buttons
j9murphy replied to j9murphy's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
SOLVED... for anyone else that has this problem - the f18 has its own views which must be assigned from within the f18 profile - these override whatever is set in the general tab. Once I set my buttons to the aircraft tab (f18 in this case), everything worked as expected.- 1 reply

The proper home, IMHO, would be in... Home-> English-> Digital Combat Simulator-> DCS World 2.8-> DCS World Core Features-> VR VR is every bit the "Core Feature" that multiplayer, multi-display, voice chat, etc.. are. However, If ED wants to train the mice to find the cheese somewhere else, I'm sure we'll all learn the new maze even if it doesn't really make sense... we have to eat of course:) I guess what ED is thinking is we're not talking about VR the DCS feature, we're talking about the 3rd party hardware/software that connects us to that feature. - we're just a joystick in the stream of life:(

I've assigned some buttons on my throttle to some views. For example, moving a hat up selects the F2 view. in the controls setup page when I push the button the correct view is selected (under general) so I know the button is assigned correctly and is being recognized. When I'm flying an aircraft, the button does nothing. the F2 key still works but the button will not select that view. how can I fix this (current stable release).
-
me too, @BIGNEWYis it ok to proceed, or should i wait for something to be "fixed"?

I've disabled the toolkit for now, and everything runs great. I'll fly like this and then reintroduce the toolkit later with all settings reset to default - then I can gradually reintroduce some settings to see if I get any additional improvement, but right now it works great ( 1/2 framerate, prefer fps, optical flow enabled) - looks great, and smooth!. Thank you for your continued work @mbucchia!

My guess is that you were GPU limited in VR rather than CPU limited. Don't know what your setting were, but I have a 4090 now and I'm still GPU limited in terms of framerate because of my graphics settings. I really dont pay any attention to framerate any more though - I'm either in the 45 fps "band" or I'm 90 fps. Would love to run 90 fps no MR all the time, but it's just not feasible, so I limit my framerate to allow overhead for more complex scenery/missions and totally ignore framerate now, its all about smoothness and how much I can crank up the visuals (again allowing for overhead), i want to fly, not tune for every mission.

@BIGNEWY Any chance we'll get a new stable version soon? Quite the performance and feature difference between the two now (excellent work by the way!)

My guess (and it's just that)... is that if you are: CPU Bound, MT will help a lot GPU bound with GPU utilization less than 100%, MT will help some GPU bound with GPU utilization at 100%, MT will help a little lots of other variables though, as said above ED didnt just do MT, sounds like they messed with the rendering pipeline and other things which will have additional benefits beyond just what MT would give you.

Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
j9murphy replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Your settings are very similar to mine (13900k, 4090) and my experience is largely the same (HP G2). I finally dropped MSAA and AF which does create a littl eshimmering, but I stay 90 while flying more often and once MR drops the graphics are crystal clear. -
As someone who has spent their life writing software and managing and leading software development teams, I always find this thread amusing. While schedule is important the old adage "people will remember it was wrong long after they forget it was late", still applies. We'll get it when it's ready:)

Saw this in another thread... My guess is that this would help for busy missions in vr since with most headsets (aero maybe excluded) we probably cant see out as far as we would like anyway. Don't know if this would break the "pure scripts" rule on multiplayer or not. Of course, once you're within the draw distance the problem comes back, but maybe there is less to draw in that case, dunno.

"The F-15 Eagle I flew during my USAF career incorporated a self-contained starter system consisting of a small auxiliary power unit called the JFS (jet fuel starter): you pulled a T-handle in the cockpit to discharge a hydraulic accumulator, which started the JFS (itself a small jet engine). Once the JFS was running, it powered a drive shaft to a central gearbox, which in turn transferred power by shafts to start each main engine, one at a time. When both engines reached idle RPM the JFS shut itself down. It wasn’t as fast as a cart start, but no external power was necessary. In this video you can hear the JFS running, each main engine starting in turn, followed by the sound of the JFS spinning down. You might not think so but starting the F-15’s engines is just as noisy to the pilot as it is to the ground crew outside, maybe even more so. The JFS is tremendously loud; additionally, when each main engine reaches idle, and its inlet ramp slams down it’s a hell of a thump. Whenever I took non-pilot passengers up in a two-seater, I’d tell them there’d be a lot of strange and violent noises during engine start, plus plenty of shaking and alarming bumps, and not to get overly concerned unless they saw me jump out and run away." -- Source Air-Minded: F-15 JFS Airstarts (Updated) | Paul's Thing (pwoodford.net)

The start sequence above is shown by Razbam in this video... what a cool sound:)

interesting discussion here... Real IPD in VR : virtualreality (reddit.com) Additionally (as i understand it) , IPD in your HMD and IPD in the game serve different purposes. The IPD in your hmd (if its mechanical like the G2) just aligns the lenses with your eyes. IPD/World Scale in the game influences how far apart your "virtual eyes" are rendered which also influences depth perception. Large changes make things appear bigger and smaller. Smaller changes within in your IPD range influence 3D perception. I'm no expert here, and what I wrote above may not be correct, it's just what I pretend to understand lol

Whatever you want to call it, setting it to the ipd I measured with my app had a positive impact on what i see through the lenses without making the cockpit too large or too small.

@mbucchia Does this tool give us any uplift once DCS supports DLSS (assuming the rumor is true that DLSS is being implemented in DCS)? The tool essentially allows any DLSS game to use DLAA. https://hothardware.com/news/plugin-enable-dlaa-in-dlss-games

I too changed my IPD in both DCS and OXRTK and it made a nice difference. I measured my IPD using an android app on my phone (GlassesOn is what I used), measured like 5 times and took the most common answer (was the same 3 of the 5 times) ... nice difference. I also tried the 90 FOV, didn't like that one - seemed to make everything too small and moved the stick too far forward IMHO, but the IPD is a keeper.
-
I'm resigned to the fact that my next vr headset will cost more... but, no base station, no controller, no audio, and smaller FOV than a G2 (which is already small) for a thousand dollars? Seems like we can do better:)

Holy Smokes!!! INSTANT 30FPS Increase for nothing!!
j9murphy replied to fredclan's topic in Virtual Reality
By power limited he meant that your cpu was probably throttling because it was reaching its maximum draw allowed. Has nothing to do with your power supply. By turning down the other cores it may have prevented the throttling. You can use hwinfo64 to see what's going on if you have a good understanding of how overclocking really works. Overclocking raptor lake effectively is pretty nuanced compared to previous gens. -
yes, thank you.. I had to do both (start xrns first and make the change i mentioned above), of course ymmv:)
