  1. Not an upgrade ... just a few tweaks - perhaps a bit more speed? Ahh the 'Next Project' ...
  2. Is the 25T so unstable on the ground? Seems like applying the wheel brakes causes it to veer off course and touch those air brakes on the ground - and then it starts cartwheeling down the runway! Are the air brakes supposed to be used in landing at all? The 25 seems to have less of a problem ... Now ED have done some work with official data on the A-10, will we see any changes to the FM on that - seems like a dream in comparision to the 25 and 25T!
  3. I've had one for years (since the early F4 days). The 2 switches on the throttle have come loose ... I glued the 3 pos switch in place and that fixed the problem and next time I have to strip it, I'll do the same with the speed brake switch. The only other problem is the pot in the throttle died ... bought a standard replacement and fitted it ok. That was a few years ago and I've played a fair bit of LO since. I couldn't justify the cost of the hall effect ones! I really like my Cougar ... really solid bit of kit! I twist rudder would be nice ... I haven't got the setup for peddles and using a switch is nowhere near as good.
  4. Well, I've just checked my system and I have 9 DIFFERENT msvcrt.dll's loaded on my laptop! Strangly, the one in c:\games\lockon has been renamed (I guess by me) as .dll.old. So, I guess the one LO is using is v7.0.2600.2180 from c:\windows\system32 How about searching your HDD making sure you are running that one ... either from the LO directory or from windows\system32. Having said that, playing for 3hours non-stop is pretty good going! My system grinds to a halt (runs out of available RAM) way before that - probably due to a memory leak somewhere in LO.
  5. To disable file protection: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222473
  6. Thats a feature of XP ... you can disable it if necessary.
  7. Have you read any of his work? It has been said he was one of the 'fathers' the the F-16 ... heavily responsibile for its design. Yes, he didn't get everything he wanted - the AF kept adding features that added weight! His theories started way before the Mig-21 and 17 ... he was a Sabre pilot!
  8. Interesting read ... thanks for posting. Since reading a biog of Boyd a few years ago I'd been looking for some of his docs. The 'Aerial Attack' study is a bit heavy for me ... I guess its PhD in being a figther pilot stuff!
  9. I don't think there is any evidence an Exocet was shot down in the Falklands War ... 3 hit, a few were decoyed and fell into the sea, and gunners fired vast amounts of 20mm, 40mm, 4.5" and SeaCats at some - maybe claiming hits. SeaWolf was the only system able to hit a low flying SSM in that conflict and never got a shot. I think in GW1 (or 2 I can't remember which) a SeaDart took out a Silkworm ... thats a different level of threat all together.
  10. Well, they've had a go at wobbling bits of Scuds in the past, so I would think an ARM would be much slower and easier!
  11. Yes I know ... but that is only a small part of the model.
  12. That may be as a result of a guidance update from the launch plane ....
  13. You can be as specifc as you like .... feel free. It would be better to have things like clouds, sun, FOV, weather and the thermal effects of the ground etc modelled so that IR missiles ran off if not locked before launch.
  14. Hmmm ... theres a great paper over on SimHQ written by a pilot who makes a good argument to the contrary ... Outside views are best for judging angles and rates of turn, positional advantage etc ... The only problem is its banned on most servers .... so don't get used to it!
  15. So, if you lock at 20miles with an ET and fire it will still work ... I thought we'd come to the conclusion it didn't have mid-course update? So how does that work? I thought IRs could be fired without a lock - and if you happended to be in the way, tough ... or is this just a quick fix to get around the ET bug? Surely we need to cripple is FOV - I thought that was why it wasn't used this way in RL. James
  16. We haven't got enough CPU power to run the level of detail required for a land sim plus LOs A2A and A2G environment. Have a look at SteelBeast Pro ... a fanastic sim, good AI, great terrain engine (even got grass!) and great support from the devs too! James
  17. I've just watched your track ... very interesting. Has anyone else notice the apparent problems with AMRAAM and 9M fuses? You have at least 3 missiles fly past you, all very close, certainly within the length of a 27, and not go off!!!! I know the US has historical problems making fuses ... but really! Are all fuses modelled the same? Or are there differences for each missile? That ET is certainly an uber missile ... launched BVR and starts tracking at over 4Ks ... and boom! Any news if this will be neutered in BS? James
  18. True enough - definately a classic decade ... now its all systems! Most modern stuff is way too complex to model the cockpit systems accurately! As well as being super-secret! James
  19. Something just occured to me ... how are you measuring that 30-40degrees? By the scope or by an external view? If its the scope, remember its a B-scan which distorts everything! James
  20. It would seem much more sensible to pick a time point and stick to it ... more unclassified data available and you don't end up with the silly situation of modelling an engagement where one a/c has a an early 1980s missile v an opponenent with a late 1990s missile ... But, hey ... that discussion was lost ages ago :( James
  21. GGT, Thats what I'm saying ... by GW1, Sparrow was a good missile when used within parameters.
  22. And what was it's kill ratio in GW1? Do you think the AA-10 would be better in RL or worse?
  23. Use the flight stick ... push forward and the view in the mirror tilts up, pull back and the the view titls down ... ;)
  24. Class ... pure class :) Although I prefer black myself!
