DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
Topgun505 replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It's too bad the A-4 module was canceled. Could have done some movie scene recreations. Maybe someone will come out with a F-5 model and give it a black skin. :) -
Need assistance testing Training sandbox

Aside from the embark/disembark logic (which I don't know if that was fixed or not with the latest patch?) I've run into another glitch. I have some logic to spawn some military air traffic coming into Senaki every 30 min or so based off of a flag. But instead of the first aircraft spawning in around 10 minutes after mission start it spawns immediately. And the other 3 aircraft which are supposed to spawn every 30 minutes or so after that never appear to spawn. No idea why ... the logic to spawn/time this is pretty simple and as far as I can see it's right. -

Magnet. Actually I did the time of day on purpose specific for my flight group as we start flying at 9pm EST and go until around 11:30p or midnight. By that time the mission is almost night so that's a que for me that it's time to pack it in and head to bed. heh. Plus it also allows our pilots to switch over to NVGs and get in some evening stick time if they so desire. Obviously if over people want more daytime hours it's a simple 5 second change in the mission editor to change the time. Easy peasy. :) -

Found a few logic errors. Will post a fix list. I believe my logic for infantry embarking may be flawed if someone can check me. -
So I have made a DCS World Training mission. This is a multiplayer mission so you can fly it solo or with friends. This currently supports pretty much everything DCS has to offer at present. There is a day version and a night version. It is broken up into 4 sandbox areas. Off to the East you have the air to air area where blue aircraft take off from one airbase and red take off from another. You can either go against other pilots, or summon AI aircraft with the radio, or summon AI aircraft via trigger points. To the Northwest you have the helo area. You can do a few different search and destroy missions and an anti-ship with the attack helos and you can do extraction and cargo missions with the transport helos. There is also a FARP in the area you can practice landing/rearming at. To the West you have the WWII area. Again, blue takes off from one and red from another airbase and meet in the middle to practice air to air or you can go NW from either airbase to practice air to ground. To the South you have a modern air to ground area. You have waypoints to numerous target types and also have a JTAC you can practice with. There is also a ground of vehicles you can control via CA. The end objective is you should be able to practice any aircraft DCS/FC3 has to offer. There is a fair amount of logic. I wanted to throw this to the community to give it an acid test to find out if there is anything wrong/logic not working, and to get suggestions for improvements. Let me know what you find. Actually this is a question on 2 separate issues. 1. I'm developing a training mission with a JTAC. I went in to test it and I entered the UTM coords into the CDU (and later I viewed some videos on You Tube to ensure I was doing it the right way). I was doing it correct, however, the resulting coordinates were 900 miles away! I believe the issue was when I entered the coords I was in a different battle grid than the JTAC (the JTAC must be close to the border). I don't want the JTAC visible on the map because I don't want trainees simply making him the SPI and then slewing to him and then the area nearby to find the targets manually (the JTAC is danger-close to the targets). I want them to be forced to use the CDU to enter the coords. The question is, when in cockpit how do you avoid this situation? I've noticed the small square labels (GG, GH, etc) but not the larger ones. If you are in a different battle grid, what's the format for entering them (I believe the OSB to enter is OSB 17?) ... is it just like 37T or are there two sets of data that need to go in? 2. In a number of different aircraft (although I don't think this has happened with the A-10C) I am having some sporadic issues with the comms. I'll be on the ground and can talk to the ground crew and to ATC so I know intercomms and radios are working but later when up in the air and I hit the \ key again to bring back up the comm menu nothing happens. I can understand if you didn't have the radio set right and you brought up the comms and nobody answered when you make a transmission but NO comms menu appears at all (despite it working on the ground). Anyone run into this?
-
Ok. #2 I think has been answered well. But, what about #1? Do you have a certain time limit you have to start the engine within (if you are not using ground power)?
-
Am I correct in guessing that if you don't have the ground crew turn on ground power that you cannot contact ATC via radio? Started without ground power and prior to engine start I could not get ATC to repond to my request for clearance for engine start, but once it was started they would respond for my request to taxi.
-
Yes I've had those systems shot out from under me. Heck I've had my tail entirely blown off a few times.

Very true Quarter. Once you learn how to avoid rotor-slap the KA-50 is a breeze to fly and hover. The UH-1H is more difficult by comparison. It makes me wonder how accurate the KA-50 flight model is. Is it REALLY that simple?

I went through the start up training just fine and developed a custom startup checklist from that. Afterwards I loaded my own multiplayer mission to practice startups but I run into 2 problems. 1. If I have the battery on while I'm going over the checklist and I sit like this for 5-10 minutes on the tarmac before trying to do the engine start the gas producer never goes past 10% when I do finally try to start the engine. Is there a time limit that you have to start the engine within before the battery wears down? If I go through the checklist quickly and start right away I don't have this problem (though I do have the next one). 2. When I don't have the above problem and I hit and hold the start engine button, the engine doesn't light unless I add a bit of throttle (instead of being at idle like in the startup training mission). Once yhe engine catches i can reduce the throttle back to idle. Anyone else running into this?

I recently started practicing in earnest on the Huey. I finished my own custom checklist and started takeoffs, hovering (holy he** it's a lot harder than the KA-50) and landing. One thing I have noticed is that if I crank up the collective past around 80% or so I actually hear the engine/blades slow a bit and soon thereafter the Low RPM warning blares. If I lower the collective a bit the engine spools back up and the RPM warning goes silent. Is this normal or is something not set right? Governor switch is on and I have tried this with pitot and de-ice both on and off. I have also replicated this on some of the UH-1H missions where the helo is already started so I'm guessing this is normal but I wanted to make sure.

I can't offer any services regarding Translations but I am very good at documenting/creating Start-up sequence documentations. I can give you examples of the KA-50 and A-10C I have done. Let me know if interested. EDIT: Attached A-10C Startup documentation. DCS A-10C Long Checklist.pdf

DCS: A-10C Tutorial Collection (PDF´s and Videos)
Topgun505 replied to MemphisBelle's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
For squadron trainers I developed a set of missions they can put their students through to test their knowledge on all categories of basic system management/employment as well as weapons employment. The mission description files are Word files so they can edit with their own contact information as needed. Mind you this is NOT a tutorial/ How-to. This is a packet for trainers to use to test their trainees to see how well they have mastered a topic. Topgun505 DCS A-10C Certification Mission Test Pack - Public.zip -
Any chance we could get a screenshot of just the page of the manual that shows the entire cockpit (or as much of it will fit on a page)? I tend to make a visual step-by-step checklist for my squadron and I use such pages from each aircraft manual to make a wireframe thumbnail to assist in panel location for each step. Just would be nice to get an early start on it.

Resolved. Didn't realize I had selected dynamic weather later on which over-rode the previous static set weather.
-
Ok a really stupid question here. In the ME, when you are selecting wind speed and direction ... are the arrows showing the direction of travel of the wind ... or what direction of origin they are coming from? I ask this because I have a ILS training mission set up and the arrows for wind direction for the lower 2 bands are pointed to the left (what I assume is a Westerly flow) and thus my thinking is that the airfield I'm operating on should have runway 08 as the active runway (instead of 26). I'm needing runway 08 to be the active runway because it is the one equipped with ILS. However ATC is telling me runway 26 is the active runway (and thus the ILS gear is inactive). Am I wrong in reading the wind indicators?
-
Awesome. Thank you much!

So the P-51D has to have the radio settings for all channels set in the ME since they can't be set in the cockpit. Ok fine. So where in the ME do you actually DO that? I see the starting freq in the main window when you first select the unit but I see no options anywhere on setting the other channels on the radio. Does this have to be done by script?

Turn Performance and Lift Coefficient
Topgun505 replied to USARStarkey's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Do you all mess with the curve values on your stick? It seems like I just BARELY pull back on my stick and one wing drops and I end up snap-turning (high speed stall?) almost immediately. And this happens at nearly any speed and engine setting. It just seems like I have to fly this thing like a grandma lest a wing drops and the thing spins out of control. Are there any videos of this aircraft in ACM with the control map display turned on so I could see how far the controls are moving compared to what I'm doing? -
I have most DCS modules. All direct downloads from ED not Steam. All of them work fine. I recently, however, went into the Training missions to refresh on something and my A-10C is fine, but when I click on KA-50 it doesn't list any missions and says Install (EN) at the bottom. If I click on this will it just install mission files or is going to reinstall the entire KA-50 module (and potentially bork up all my keybindings I had set)? It is like this for my UH-1H as well.
-
So I tried single player missions for P-51 and everything works just fine. But when I or others in my squad try to host a multiplayer client mission and take a P-51 the gun sight is way down off the bottom of the HUD. Anyone else run into this problem. No amount of adjusting gun sight settings seems to make it any better.

I let it sit there a good amount of minutes so I don't think that was the issue. The instruments showed both the readings were exactly what they needed to stabilize at in just a few moments. I was just wondering if anyone else has managed to get past that point in that mission.
