I searched and didn't see this reported. Cold start in Persian Gulf. Everything is fine, take off, few waypoints, turn around and come back to the carrier, standard comms - inbound, see you at 10, hornet ball, land. Then I go to the catapult to do it again. Only thing is I get nothing from comms at all, the 2nd time around. I continued with landing procedures and landed, thinking maybe I'm just not hearing them in my headset, got the message that I didn't follow communication procedures.

When setting up missions in the editor, ground is usually 0 for take off/landing. What is the general altitude of the supercarrier deck? 20 ft above sea level?

You can also use the points to direct the Harpoon to start searching at that point...fly low or high until it reaches that point, take a new heading or not, start searching.

Awesome information, fellas! Thank you!

Is it just me, or does he sound grumpy about it??

Yeah, my "gear up and punch it" was meant figuratively. But I do understand the concept better now. No matter what, I increase power LSO: powweerrrr, powwwerrrrrr Me: these things have to SPIN up/down, ya know! LSO: wave off

I am still learning the correct way to land on the carrier. I can hit the wire all kinds of ways, except the right way :music_whistling: So! I am getting closer and closer with practice, but what frustrates the CRAP out of me is a last-second wave off. I mean, there's nowhere else to go but to ignore the LSO and put it down. Which I do. But my question is to a real hornet pilot (or ANY Naval Aviator), what do you do when you get a WO at the very last second? Just gear up and punch it? Let me add: it is usually due to LSO saying I'm too low on those occasions.

Thrustmaster Hotas LED lights.
Wolf359 replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Add small labels to them on the throttle, then they can indicate on/off states of whichever switches you'd like. For instance, for the hornet I have LED1 assigned to landing gear up/down (so when I flip the switch down, it lowers the landing gear AND turns on LED1, etc), LED2 to the hook, LED3 to flaps, LED4 to speed brake, and LED5 to Master Arm. I did that so that I would know the state of certain functions that will affect flight. Something to note: Intensity only controls ALL lights on the throttle. It cannot be used to control only the LED1-5, for example. You have to use ONOFF for those. If you want to turn off the backlight of the rest of the throttle, it is assigned to LED0. I also assigned my bound power switch to turn on/off the MFD's - this time INTENSITY is the only way to do so, as I have not found any certain LED designation for the MFD backlights. -
Located data files in User file and deleted. Re-installed the app and all is working fine now. Man, what a pain. Thanks for the input, gents!

Yeah, the mic works fine in Windows, and with speech recognition. Just tried uninstalling VA and reinstalling...same thing. But the uninstall did not delete existing settings, either. I'll check that out.
-
Good point. I'll do that. Thanks for the assist.

I tried loading without the DCS profile, same results. I tried a different headset, but same results. I think my next step is to uninstall and reinstall; maybe a corrupted file.

It's not a new install; I've been running it for a long while now. It was working up until about two weeks ago. I'll try running it without starting the DCS profile and report back.

I do not. On the headset cable, I have volume control and mute. I have verified the mic is not muted. I went into Windows Speech Recognition and read aloud a few sentences to be sure. That worked fine.

Yes, it's there. When I click the assigned button and hold it, "listening resumed". When I let go, "listening suspended".

No, I don't have any other mic plugged in.
