Dear all, let's face it... DCS is completely free of charge to download and run... Only 2 aircraft and 1 region are included but again: it's free. Try that in your local supermarket and you'll get my point... Where it comes to purchase additional planes and regions, you'll have to pay.. So far, I bought the F16C and Nevada training range and indeed.... I discovered many flaws and imperfections but..... ED are working hard to improve their jewels. After every patch/update I'm getting more and more satisfied with the progress they've achieved. Probably, I'll invest in the supercarrier en Hornet some day but for now, I'm having fun with the Viper . To me, the supercarrier is just a floating runway with animated crew on the deck. Airborne operations are pretty much the same as when operating from a regular airfield. Maybe, maybe, in the future I'll change my mind. Happy flying to you all...

[CORRECT AS IS] No hypoxia and wrong O2 consumption after empty tank
regards replied to riojax's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Correct me if I'm wrong but afaik the O2 system is not really implemented yet. How would hypoxia work in a simulated environment? Fuzzy visuals? Poor or even no reaction on inputs perhaps? In that situation you wil not even be able to eject. Once you're unconcious, it's most certainly over and done with you and the viper. The good news is that after the crash, you can restart the flight and try again. -
To be honest: I spent most of my DCS inside the Viper cockpit so I don't really care about the details on the outside. True: It's not finished yet but it'll get better in near future. Bird is still WIP, remember?

I have no experience with the Warthog HOTAS. Personaly I use the good old Saitek X-52 pro ( something like 10 years old now) and it still works like a charm. The only thing that needed attention was the rudder potentiometer inside the stick. The rudder was very wobbly even in center position. Partly disassembled the stick, gave the potentiometer a nice shot of contactspray, twisted the stick a few minutes from left to right, blew things dry with compressed air and re-assembled the stick. From that moment on everything worked as advertised again. No idea if this is helpful for your HOTAS though.

Sounds pretty harsh to state that 80% is still missing..... That is definitely not true. Ok, The viper isn't finnished yet but let's face it.. ED is working hard on development of missing functions. As long as I am not current on this fighter plane, there's much to explore for me and to familiarize with.

Despite the F-16C in DCS is still WIP, I thank ED for their effort from the moment I bought it last december. In the beginning, many things were far from complete. Landing light, strobes, weaponsystems en even lack of wing flex, to name some.. But let's be fair...ED are working their ass off to improve the plane and with almost every update it gets better and better. Not always big chunks with every update but that is ok with me. At this moment, I'm even happy with vissible wheelchocks. :-)

Make sure to have your rudder neutral at the time you switch on NWS. Otherwise the nosewheel will come in aggressively to the left or right and you will flip the bird on it's side or at least perform a Tokio drift. That will happen at almost every speed >15 kts So be extremely gentle with pedal pressures.
-
Hint: only switch on NWS below 60 kts to prevent spilling tea. True: the Viper is one of the easiest to manage fighters in the air but groundwise it can be a bitch. Main gear position is pretty much too narrow for highspeed cornering.

This is a gift from heaven... Deep respect for the author(s). 477 pages of F16C block 50 manuals.... Absolutely brilliant. Thanks!

I guess not... In almost all other situations it runs predictable. However, I sometimes experience strange control behaviours while flying MP missions... For example: Offline, I have the slider on the throttle programmed as wheelbrakes and that's ok.... In several ( but not all) MP sessions the slider is not responding.... strange..

It's the coiled viper mission.

Hi all, This evening i joined a pre-programmed offline mission in the F16 over the Caucasus map and from the point I jumped in, the aircraft was hardly controllable. No error messages whatsoever. Checked the balance of the payload but that was not the issue. Checked altitude hold and headingselect as well, turned them on and off but no luck.. Meanwhile I was able to keep the bird flying but not without intensive corrections on the stick and rudder. I am using the good old Saitek X52 pro Hotas and besides an easy 'repair' ( contactspray and compressed air) on the integrated rudder podometer, everything works as a charme, hardware-wise. I've experienced this behaviour before and I was still able to fly to the nearest airfield and landed without scratches. My main question is: Is this a bug in DCS or a feature? In the options page, 'random failures' checkbox is blank so this shouldn't cause this behaviour I guess. The second question: Where do we dial 7700 in the transponder and how does the DCS system react on that? And to raise levels..... 7500? ( yeah, sure..... in-flight hijacking a F16 single seater ( good luck) The third question... Would it be possible to navigate a 'loaded' viper over the Normandy map? I know that wouldn't be realistic IRL but for sheer fun, it would be great to alter history.

LOL, that's my policy as well:pilotfly:

Or take a course on using a sextant and stow it in your flightbag:book:

I copy that! Also, I sincerely can't point the differences between all variants. Yes there are several but afaik mainly visible in the cockpit and under the hood... My brother 'Box' served at 315 squadron as a F-16 pilot between 1984 till the late 90's and I was able to put my ass in the cockpit once. ( cold and dark, no chance to go airborne as a passenger) In my memory it was pretty impressive but also very analog. No glass cockpit whatsoever..

How to make PErsin Gulf bushes greener?
regards replied to Stratos's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
AFAIK the only green in that region is in gardens and parks.. If you want green vegetation, move to Normandy and/or the Caucasus. -
Ah!! A third ( hidden) flight mode.... There were already a 'game' and a 'sim' mode. The third one is the 'airshow mode :-)
-
I am truly convinced that ED is working their @ss off to stay on track in development en release new features as promised in their progress reports but..... I'd rather wait for a new feature that works instead of having a buggy feature that doesn't work as intended. So far i'm pretty satisfied about the current state. Big kudos for ED

Hmmmm.... This was in fact a failed high speed taxi-run... Mr Oestricher took off because the YF16 refused to remain on the ground... This hero must have had balls of steel.
-
I think the Geneva convention is only part of the story... If it was possible to destroy the dam, the upper lake would drain rapidly, the lower canyon would flood en Las Vegas would turn dark.... For sheer realism that would be fun but far to complicated to implement the aftermath in DCS. Let's deal with it.
-
Well, as mentioned before... The DCS F16C is still in open beta but you can surely jump into a fight with it. IRL you probably wouldn't even try but hey.... it's a sim and you'll survive anyway:pilotfly: A2A and A2G however are functioning pretty well already but will get even better over time. Patience and practice are key.

To me personally the current incomplete state of the viper is no issue. The basics were in it from the launch day and I had big fun to get comfortable with simply flying it. Cold an dark startup, taxiing , take-off, flying straight, practice rolls, loops, split S, etc.. recover from unusual altitudes racing through las Vegas and the canyons and landings. All big fun. In the mean time, ED implements improvements in funcionality, onboard systems and eye candy every few weeks and honestly... that keeps me hungry for more and more to come. What really helps also are numerous YT channels ( wags, grim reapers, shifty mover to mention some) And last but not least: reading almost every topic on this site. I am flying sims for I think almost 2 decades now ( MS flightsimulator 1.0 , FSX and everything in between, X-plane, Lock-on but DCS to me is the best invention in flight simulation ever.

[CORRECT AS IS]How come a single click trim rolls the plane
regards replied to ebabil's topic in Bugs and Problems
Same experience here.. As long as I choose a pre-defined load profile, there's little to no issue with the balance of the bird but as soon as I choose my own load, trouble kicks in. I know, the trim wheels are not installed for the candy but it would be helpful if the onboard systems correct at least the major part of the trim. It was with a reason that the fly by wire system was invented. No idea how this works in the real F16 though. -
That puzzles me too... The best option would be the Thrustmaster Cougar ( in terms of F-16 look-alike HOTAS) but they're no longer in production.
-
First things first..... Invest in mastering take-offs and landings... Dare to crash over and over again. Since DCS is a sim, you can simply restart and try again. Only after you feel comfortable with the bird, you can step up to weapon systems and how to use them.
