Ok, after following one of the recommended videos on how to increase performance on windows by cleaning out background programs, I am now Met with a computer that seems to “spin” a-lot before going to the next function. Not quite sure how to describe it other than you used to click in a desk top icon and it was done, now it seems to have to load. Anyway, is there a way to repair windows without having to reload all my program’s or am I screwed. I believe on of the things the video had me remove was the ability to roll back to a previous stable version? I do have my dcs files on a separate drive. Thanks in advance. Argh, 2 steps forward and one back

Which setting makes the trees stop growing right before your eyes as you fly thu the mountains? Is it just low fps? Thanks
-
Thanks, does dropping the headset from 120 to 90 free up resources that can then be used upping something else? At what cost? Still trying to comprehend what each of these functions actually accomplishes.

Yep, you were one I was following, thanks. Instill need to go back and shut down all the windows crap to hopefully get some additional ability to get Pd up. Question, you initially say Dcs PD to 1.0 then say set dcs to 1.4 to 1.6. Is their a typo or am I misreading? Im assuming the objective is to squeeze the most PD out to balance clarity with smoothness?

Couldn’t wait any longer so I broke open the box and set up my index. Having never been in the world of VR to say I was absolutely flabbergasted would be an understatement. Holly crap!! I made the settings mirror some that I have seen in posts. Set it for 120mhz and 1.1 pd. Smooth as butter but just a tad blurry. Upped it to max and looked amazing but very fine jitters were unbearable. Finally ended up with 1.6 and looked really good and ran smooth (f18 in Caucuses btw). Have to say a bit of fine focus would still be welcome especially in mid range. Cockpit looks sharp but was right up behind a mig and it was blurry. Any thoughts on which of the bazillion settings might help? Almost all DCS settings on high. Thanks

Is there a way to map full in/full out for the air brake on the F18 hotas or is it hold to move and release to stop movement? I can only seem to command it to move in or out but it stops when I release switch without fully deploying or retracting Thanks

Thanks guys. I actually did find an unofficial written “manual” that sheds some great light on functionality. Thanks

Can someone please explain or point me to where I can figure out how to use the 5 mode select switch on my Virpil throttle. As of now all it does is change led colors. Seems like there has to be more. Thanks

I just read up on page files, will do that next then I guess I should plug in the headset and see what’s what. Almost afraid at this point after reading gobs of posts. Wonder if even my system is going to be up to the task. We shall see

Wow, that is super helpful( and unfortunately quite overwhelming) thanks for the input so far Was in bios and turned on xmp and turbo but didn’t see any options for adjusting or over clocking? Its an MSI gaming board fyi. All in one water cooler on chip. Lost me on page file. How to?? Downloaded and installed latest Nvidia drivers but didn’t see any option for settings. Any help? Funny that I really want to learn to fly sims but am enjoying learning the new technology as well!! Can’t wait to strap on the headset, can only imagine... Thanks!!

Wow, pompous much? You apparently are one of the coolest guys you know, congrats bud.... -
Good morning So as pointed out earlier, I am old tech savvy (read 386 w math co) was my first build. Long long time since my last desktop!!! Built system in signature last week specifically for DCS use. Have booted, “adjusted bios” and updated drivers per you tube videos (not over clocked) . Installed windows 10 pro, steam and latest release of DCS including a bunch of modules (all non steam versions) Ran a quick test using my 144 mhz monitor with “high” setting on DCS and runs smooth so far. Jumped into an online server and seems to run great sans getting “shot down” before hitting the battery switch (noob welcome??????) fwiw used a resource monitoring program temps were good ,all cores below 15% and graphics card 90% at 145 fps in free flight over Dubai. <==all “ish” figures as Im away going off of recollection. Ok after all of the above babbling, before I dig out the index and heap another layer of configurating on the pile, what else should be done to optimize my base system? I just want to make sure all the bones are ready so I can just “optimize the headset once I go there. Kind of vague I know but I hope u get the jest of what I am asking. Thanks all!!

You choose to unrealistically play an airplane video game, what’s your point???? If you don’t have an answer to his question, why not just move along???
-
Thanks!! Learning “computers “‘as I learn DCS. A lot of moving parts!!

Starting to load software on my new pc. Was getting ready to Purchase the F14 when I noticed it said “not compatible with steam”. I have purchased the valve index, haven’t opened as yet as Im still getting things in order. Can I run the Valve index without downloading steam? If I want to fly the F14 and others in VR on my index, do I have to go purchase them again (assuming any I gave already purchased had the same restrictions?) Don’t want to waste any more cash if I have to go buy from the steam store instead of direct from ED. Let me know and thanks!!

New pc, new instal

Well pushed the power button and viola!!! We have a brand new pc. Will spend rest of the evening updating bios, and drivers and such. Wow, been years since I put one of these together. Sans the huge video card, amazingly clean and tidy. Cant wait to strap on the headset. Question. I have wireless mouse and keyboard, hence I can already see usb ports are going to be an issue, even with all on front and back. Can I use a hub extension to put my throttle, stick and pedals all in same port? Should I use the blue or black for virpl hotas and crosswinds pedals? Thanks tons. -
No! If you can’t hide the throttle and stick on the real aircraft, this shouldn’t be allowed!! After all this is the read deal, not a game!!!!! (Obviously sarcasm).

F16 Isn’t designed for carrier ops so never...

I think as much realism as possible is a great thing with one caveat. Given the choice of a functioning “test switch” or every time I flip that test switch I get kicked off a server or DCS crashes and a reboot is in order my priority is the system first. Obviously a noob but it would seem the biggest difference between “being an actual Pilot” or a “Sim Pilot” is the reality of failures of the operating system/base program, not a bit failure in the aircraft. I would just like focus on 1. Make program itself work as close to perfect as reasonable,(system crashes, glitches, server kicks 2. Fix existing functions on modules that are wonky (ie landing lights that work on all modules weather ect.) 3. Bring existing models up to full function. (Radars, weapons ect). 4. New planes, campaigns and terrains. In the end, the user can and should be able to choose if they want to be “Uber vicarious pilot” or “Mr. game guy” Thats the beauty of being human. Happy Thanksgiving for those who celebrate, and to the rest, have a great weekend!!

Question about current state of SOUND and LIGHTS development
Mr. Big.Biggs replied to REDEYE_CVW-66's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
+1!! Put a sock in jester and use the bandwidth for other issues. Yes, he appears to be mission critical for ops but 99% of his jabber is useless. With all those who complain about incorrect rivet spacing and an exterior view with a shadow or two amiss, I can’t believe it’s even still considered appropriate. SUCH an immersive killer. Great looking model tho and you can bet that if I ever get basics figured like how to sign in, create an account ect, I’ll give her a shot. Keep up the excellent work! -

Already replaced it with a new order. Ordered an EVGA Super Nova 1000w. 80+ gold. 5 stars, good reviews and a 10 yr warranty. Hope it passes the muster or I'm going to have to punt. Thanks for the heads up. Rather get it right the first time! See ya in the skies!
