The Eurofighter is current generation. Not to mention, that may be very difficult to model without access to flight data. Might be difficult to model thrust vectoring, or RAM returns, correctly. Somethings we may never see.. Like the Nighthawk. That project started in the early 70's. but we know zip about it. I think we are ignoring a huge area that could be exploited. Bombers.

Rich, i willing to bet the ED response is going to be similar. Personally, if the f4 turned out difficult to fly that might be fun. (those individual limitations are fun to me) idk, i love the idea of the Asian Theater. The F4 phantom was a tech fighter, but its third gen. So that MiG-21 counter.. will be its only niche. Its tech, jammers sensors and weapons systems, will be bested by 90% of the other mods. Id like to see that niche filled Beyond that, i think the F4 is not much more than Fan Service. BUt damn.. that was an awesome era, and one not many people are familiar with. Might be difficult to model Crusader and Corsairs (sorry i mixed those up), Tigers and Intruders and Thunderchiefs. Foxbats and Floggers. i didnt know about the gun variant. but following ED's past (choice of less superior variants, for period and notoriety sake) we might see the gun pod option. The more i think about it, the more id like a 50-60s "campaign". Like you said, we really cant do modern fighters. and there are plenty of expansion options. Im interested in the F111 and the Tornado like these guys too. Hell, the Aussies still fly the 2 seater aardvark (not operational). And its a countermeasures wizard. Carries the bomb load that makes it multi role too. IF!! They Modeled the Famous F111 "DUMP AND BURN" that would be neat.

much appreciated. i do keep CAPLOC out of my modifiers menu.

??? - Vulnerable Pilots: Returning the Dead to Cockpits

Thanks Fife! ill try it immediately! -
it's weapon system and its navigation system are deeply fused together to the point where it is impossible to properly deploy some weapons without having a planned target point ahead of time. this. this i appreciate man. I dont mind attempting to wiggle craft into roles they arent suited for, but if its impossible to manage on the fly ill probably be better suited in the Harrier. I manage the Thunderbolt pretty well. It would seem this is a natural progression between Superiority and Warty CAS. I really appreciate the time and effort guys. This is good stuff for someone interested in knowing. Ive never flown in multiplayer, or taken a campaign. Fast mission is going service Harriers better than the Viggen and MiG21 then. Much appreciated, shes being downloaded now. Excited!

Yeah, i kinda like the intricate systems learning. I like the SOI/SPI system of the a10. And the fact it can compressor stall really snagged me. idk (is it weird i would buy a module for its imperfections?) i like the supersonic bit. but i fly "fast" mission, im not sure i could work 'interdiction' into that. Not without making the missions myself. but this is good, this is what im here to find out about. i love the CAS and SEAD role of the Harrier.. but im not so sure about the Harriers air to air role. So you guys like the MIG? over all? Air, Ground?

Asking a program designed for immersion.. to be less immersive.. is non-sensical. I use the the IFFVV Bit menu, to change my CCIP parameters. Losing generators at 1o,oooft and have to spool up an APU, manage a fire, wait for a BIT bootup so the HUD is available IS immersion. Rushing to get aloft with incoming forces and having to wait for INS/EGI to align, is immersion. Taking off without it, and dealing with the consequences, is immersion. Hell, i use the fuse panel to kill the master alarm, when i have serious failure. Im trying to learn my CDU in and out. Hard landing in winter with Anti-Skid off.. thats fun. etc etc etc Managing flight systems, while maintaining flight, while under adverse combat, environmental and damaged conditions.. is why we are here. Distilling the character out of the game is why we care Cab. Especially when there is an arcade mode already available ON A SIMILAR POINT.. im looking to buy my first expansion and id like to know what you guys favorite jets are. (my budget wont allow for the f16-f14 or the f18 though) So far.. the jet ive watched the most on is the Viggen, compressor stalls, automatic throttling systems, glide weapons. i mean come on. I also have Harrier-chub. But im open to all suggestions. whats YOUR favorite module and why

Thanks guys. if its that simple, i wonder if the variable changes in flight? as an example, if someone sends up a missile at your 6 with AB on.. does killing AB and turning into the missile lower the lock variable?

Those are all excellent tips and pointers. im certainly going to try out the CAPS CDU binding. i had to bind the cockpit view (keypad 0) to my joystick. Then when i use the joysticks thumb controller to look around, it snaps to the MFCD, UFC, CDU instead. its the only way ive found to focus on the TAD without zooming in and all that jazz. NOW! if i could just export the MFCDs to my tablet. Id be set. however as simple as that sounds.. i cant find much about it.

Yall dont forget. the F4-Phantom is an Fighter Interceptor.. thats it. One with a poor selection of missiles and no guns. The only thing that made it special was speed. (and only against earlier MiGs.) Compared to the other modules.. the F4 will be out of place. For me building the F4 would mean committing further resources to that era IF we can model some more allied Korean/SEAsian era jets. and a SE Asia campaign map A SE Asia map.. and an additional few allied planes to counter the MIGs already designed. The F111 Ardvaark, the Tornado, the A8 or even the A6. We already have the Skyhawk. So the Fighter bomber would be the smart move after the F4. Beyond this.. the smart move, money wise, would be to start modelling jets like the the Lightening II, Rafale, Typhoon, J10, Raptor.. Thats what would bring the big money Personally id like to see the p38 lightning or Mosquito modeled, but ww2 and prop craft arent generally preferred. Though an A1 Skyraider (the Korean/Vietnam era's version of the A10-warthog) would be alot of fun

sorry, i had to edit that not "UTM to scratchpad" its "northings easting to scratchpad" even though we are putting UTM coordinates in

Thanks man, i really needed that SLEW info. Ive blended our methods and come up with a really fast and successful method. (though not HOTAS) Though i have one issue: with the CDU knobs set in Flight Plan and Other. These are auto settings for Ramp/Airborne/Runway starts. Function 3 (WP) - then 'WAYPOINT' - (you do have to switch LL for UTM on the bottom right) The CDU keys are bound to the keyboard with LEFT CTRL/WIN Type in 8 digits - then Click on "northing eastings to scratch pad" Click on Name then Click on "#?" It goes right to the HUD, as a waypoint (i.e. DMS up and down) on the ground. I dont have to use TGP, TADS, i dont even have to use TMS up/up long. I just switch to the new waypoint and its ready to go in CCRP BUT.. it HAS to be named. for whatever reason.. if its NOT named it WONT go into the waypoints. Really quick man.. 8 digits. click click click. that fast. from first 9line to CCRP line in 5 seconds. I tried using function 3 (wp) - click on 'STEERPOINT" and it worked perfectly, but it the waypoint is Elevated.. not on the deck. (i bet it could be changed in pg2, but theres no reason) Thanks for all the help man!

Right? I dont know if the temp drop off is modeled realistically. But its fast. But since its only 'Unit' or 'Unit Afterburner' it probably wouldnt help us. I know from watching some the Grim Reapers group challenges, that the AI units will disengage after a certain amount of damage. I doubt pulling the FCO valves would trigger them to stop tracking. ill probably try it a few times. Would be neat if someone who flies in a squadron could do some SA ir tracking and see if the planes go quiet when the Shut Offs are yanked. quick slaved to a key or button maybe? key binding the pull to the CMS activate and the push to the CMS stop program key.

Heavens no. If i wanted pretty planes, with fast dumbed down play, id buy an XBOX or one of a dozen other flight games. Or id buy the FC models. This is Digital Combat Simulators. Not Digital Combat Sorta-Simulators. Whether you want a game now or if you say DCS isnt really "realism" They make a pretty damn good game, and I hope they continue to put the game craft first instead of their players wishes. You know we have examples of what happens when media studios start messing with the formula.. or listening to their players.. or trying to make them happy instead of doing what they are good at. Lucasarts, Bioware, DC, Star Trek, EA, SEGA No Thank You. Ill take DCS as it is.

I was running some experiments on the ramp with my Engines in the A10. Pulling the Emergency Fuel Shut Off Handles. At idle it takes a good 2-3 seconds to kill the engines, however at speed its damn near instantaneous. Watching the Fan and Temp gauges. I could cool the engines twice as much and twice as fast. Rather then pulling the throttle and popping flares. Twice as cool, twice as fast. At a -10 angle, i conserve the energy as well. That is if DCS modeled the tracking on a sliding scale. But thats not the case. :( its a bit like cheating anyway i guess. no pilot would kill engines with a human behind them. maybe at 20,000 ft though.

Its the little failures and confusing events that make this game amazing. THAT is DCS. Last night i flew a mission from Beslan to Batumi. I rushed my startup, so my IAMs were worthless. Inclement conditions and no JTAC prevented fighting. During the 2 hour flight to Batumi, over the mountains, i had a strange sounding alarm. Then my Positive rate indicator died and read 0. I had to work the problem. Until i realized my speed was 320 knots (in an A10). Thats excessive for stable flight at 10,000. It was the Pitot heat switch. My Pitot had frozen over. Icing. When i turned on the Pitot Heat in 30 seconds the speed reading spiked to 400 then back down to normal speeds and my altitude shot way up. My altitude was off by 7000 feet. Thats reality. That made the flight exciting. I play with random mechanical problems turned on. I play with birds turned to MAX. (ive heard you can get a bird strike). I bone up my startup alot. Sometimes i cant even get off the ground. I play with a vulnerable pilot (1 crash and your locked out of the profile) That IS DCS

Are heating seek missiles, AA/SA, written to seek on a actual heat variable? engine output variable? Are they randomized variables?
-
Frederf, You know what.. i was totally ignoring the first item in the 9LINE. The type of JTAC being performed. the 3 classes. Id imagine for realities sake, they use bad coordinates. Especially in Danger Close situations where the controller needs you to use smoke. The scratch pad way is turning out to be pretty good. Since the first 9LINE read back has the GGxxxxxx coordinates right away. That way i have a little extra time to get them into the CDU during all the talk back. Id still like to know what Kid18 was talking about, automatic IP points or something. There is a way to fix the map on a point instead of the plane, that may help. Or if there is a way to smooth out the TAD cursor. Kinda like you can smooth out the MAV slew rate. I appreciate the pointers, thanks man.
-
OK.. Now, when i slew the TAD cross over to the JTAC, and the Coordinates come up. I TMS up Short and then TMS up Long. It puts the Cake over red flashing triangle. But, when i slave the TGP over, or the MAV, its never on the target. So, i dont think its using the JTAC coodinates. I think its just where the TAD cross is :/ OK.. ive been doing it a completely Back Assward way now. When i get my first 9-Line they read out the Golf Golf code.. and i immediately type that GG****** code into the CDU. I tap a few letters, then hit "UNK" to name the mark, then hit "*?" that shoots a waypoint mark over to the TAD. BUT.. the mark isnt in the HUD (DMS up and down). Unless i switch the damn CDU to Mark or MIssion or something. Another couple steps.. to ferret out during combat.. fixed my damn elevation issue though.. at the cost of another 2 steps. This is driving me bonkers, i mean.. the DATA is visible on the TADs.. i mean its flashing on the MAP. The computer has the Data in there.

Hey Sobe, Sorry for the off topic question. Just wanted to know how you go about planning your IAM OPs. Ive tried planning waypoints over stationary targets, and using the waypoint as the SPI. But its always at altitude. TADS designation (like during JTAC requests) are so sloppy. And the TAD SPI is always moving in relation to the aircraft, not fixed on the map anyway. Id really like to know how to input target coordinates. Especially from the CDU or TADs, or in the Mission Editor (if thats necessary)
-
Could you save the entire map as a Template, and start a new mission with the Coalition you would life? Then import?

I like to fly as a Vulnerable Pilot. While Learning to use the Mission Editor, I killed my Pilot testing the Mission. Is there a way to change the Player File back to Living?

isnt the steam version somehow isolated from the DCS community at large for somereason? -
Everyone wants that Full Release Are you guys in negotiations to release this as a full mod? through Eagle Dynamics?
