  1. I always expected it would be similarly priced to the Hornet and Tomcat and from what I can see it looks like they've earned the right to ask that price.
  2. Planes are what DCS is all about. Quite frankly I would rather they stick to that and keep the scope creep to a minimum.
  3. It requires a radar lock all the way to the target, which puts you in a very dangerous position against anything remotely modern. Often misses, especially at 10 miles range or more. Flood mode is unreliable. It's not that I've never hit anything with it. But it's very inconsistent. Their real life performance statistics were apparently pretty bad too. Something like 25% kill rate in the Gulf War.
  4. He hired the A-Team to infiltrate an airbase in Pakistan and steal it.:)
  5. Jester: "Sink rate is too high!" - While trying to concentrate on low level flight. Jester "Missile Missile Missile, Break Right!" - When Jester sees a missile launch anywhere in 10 miles...lol. Me: "Shut up Jester!!" Here's another reason to value the Tomcat. Although it has the awful AIM-7 missiles. You almost always have a few Phoenix missiles. Whereas with the Hornet you are often put into missions where you are stuck with garbage Sparrows that miss more often than not and which make the Hornet missions very aggravating.
  6. Nay, mine is too ghetto. It's a holdover from back in the day when I used to play IL2-1946.
  7. Your move, ED...
  8. His incomprehensible squealing, just before ejecting when he thinks you're about to crash. I came back from that one (despite the damage). It was pretty hilarious hearing him actually say the word when he identified the target on one particular night. For years I thought I had been mispronouncing it.
  9. Because of a show named JAG (1995-2005), which I grew up watching and in which the protagonist of the show was a naval aviator who flew F-14's and was a hotshot lawyer. It was not without it's flaws, but it had some genuinely good episodes. Whenever I think of a Tomcat, I always think of that show, where the Tomcat was still relevant and much adored by the main character. It cemented the Tomcat as cool in my mind somehow. And it's the right plane for me and suits my style. Not too crude, but not too modern either. It's also very nice to look at. If I could only keep one module, it would be the F-14, no contest.
  10. This mission was big time grief to me. It's called Hornet 1989: Offensive Counter Air. There are 2 pairs of MiG-29's patrolling the area. One is always in the north and the other is always in the south and they go on a pattern. An A-50 is their AWACS. Because it's 1989, you don't get AIM-120's, just crappy Sparrows and two AIM-9's When you get to the area. You will initially encounter the first pair and the second will come racing over soon after you engage. Alot of times I would try to use the Sparrows and they would usually miss (even within 10km), causing me to die. I had better luck with the Sidewinders, but you only have 2 of those. My wingman was a total idiot and would usually get killed without accomplishing anything. Sometimes I could manage to kill 3 out of 4 MiG's, only to have the last one do some superhuman stuff, dodge the last missile, then go behind me and blow me up. The SEAD flight is almost useless. It's even more hilarious that the MiG's don't even see them unless you arrive in the area. If you let the SEAD flight go in there by themselves, they go blow up the SAM's and then fly away without any objection from the MiG's. I've even watched them fly right over each other on the map, with not a care in the world... The MiG's will engage the SEAD flight if you show up in the area and the SEAD's usually end up dead pretty fast. After going through this mission numerous times and constantly being killed by the MiG's, then having to wait 5 minutes to try again. My next idea was just to ignore them and go for the bomb run on the helicopters before the MiG's could get into shooting range. Then put the pedal to the metal and head back out to sea as fast as possible... The MiG's will foolishly follow you, usually killing your wingman (who you instructed to engage, but doesn't, which is why I ditched him) if they haven't already and trying to get into shooting range, only to end up being engaged by the F-14 CAP who slaughters them all effortlessly with AIM-54's. Then you just fly back to the carrier like it's a day in the life. The mission does seem to have a bug (as pointed out above), where destroying helicopters doesn't always trigger mission success. It's almost like some of the helicopters just disappear when hit by the bombs, but fail to register as destroyed.
  11. I just have them bound on the keyboard to Z and X. Since I don't have any actual pedals at this time. When I get more money, then I'm gonna look into getting better hardware.
  12. Should get it if you haven't already. Worth every penny.:smilewink:
  13. Can confirm I have this problem in Open Beta, since I got the Spitfire months ago. Don't have this problem with the Mustang. Rudder goes hard over in the opposite direction when you let off the pedal. The only way is to cancel it out by hitting both pedals at the same time. It makes it very hard to control on the ground. Usually resulting in destruction of the engine - eventually.
  14. It's a beautiful plane and it's got a good mix of the old and the new. It's a cross between the crude early jet fighters and the new high tech ones. It has the old style, but still has enough technology in it to be able to fight and defend itself against the more modern stuff. I find the F-16 and F-18 to be interesting, but at the same time rather boring, because everything is so automated. That's why I almost exclusively spend my time with the F-14. It's the right plane for me.
  15. F-14D. :) Failing that then the F-4E Phantom.
  16. Since cloud streaming has now been brought into this... Absolute hard no to that. Even more than any subscription. I don't care if everyone else is doing it in the future. I still wont do it. Even if that means doing without, or having to play 20 year old games. I doubt they'll take your advice. That would require paying the asking price for stuff, instead of scheming up ways to avoid it, or offload onto everyone else.
  17. Absolutely No to subscriptions. I already paid substantial money for the modules I have. I don't do subscription gaming and if I was left with no choice, then I would just walk. Absolutely No to any notion that DCS should become like certain P2P/P2W arcade games currently on the market. Though I'm pretty sure the person that wrote that was trolling, because it's completely against everything DCS is supposed to be about. If ED needs money that badly, then I would go with a nominal fee for each major release of the base software. Though I would prefer to keep the current system. As for the maintenance of modules. Once their completed, then it shouldn't cost that much to maintain them, since all the really expensive work has already been done. But I'm not against the idea of paying a small fee every few years for updated versions either.
