noted Would you want ANY heavy aircraft modules for DCS?
CommanderRabb replied to Wing's topic in DCS Core Wish List
For transports it would be neat to see a DHC-4 Caribou, or DHC-5 Buffalo in game. They are both fairly simple and require no more than two crew members to fly. -
Heatblur Development Update - Thunder & Cat
CommanderRabb replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I'm of the opinion that Heatblur has accomplished quite a bit this year and I'm not disappointed with their work, or progress. I'd rather wait for them to do it right, then try to wing it(no pun intended), especially with something as complicated as Auto TWS. Dare I say, they definitely have my nomination for best module released this year. Certainly the best $80.00 I ever spent on a piece of software. -
Agreed.:).

How does the SD-10 missile compare to the AIM-120C?
CommanderRabb replied to MobiSev's topic in JF-17 Thunder
Not really. Most of the people who've been (apparently) kicking your butt in BVR, aren't the ones suffering. They're doing just fine and not much has changed for them. Personally I haven't found the JF-17 or the SD-10 to be much more of a threat than the usual fare either. The guys reliant on the AIM-120 though, they're the ones suffering, due to the abysmal performance of their flagship weapon, which is so poor (in BVR) that I'm amazed they were able to cause you so much grief as you claim. And that is why they are angry. It's not that the JF-17 is actually better (despite the widespread and ignorant gloating). It's the fact that the appearance of the SD-10 has put a spotlight on how bad the AIM-120 is, which wasn't that big of an issue prior to the appearance of a properly modeled competitor. But now you have modern fighters that are basically fighting with their hands chopped off in BVR and shouldn't be, because they're perfectly capable. Once the AIM-120 is fixed. The JF-17 and you will likely be in for a humbling. -
This is trolling right? I mean I'm 95% certain that it is, but then again...I keep seeing people posting in here and other places, trying to scheme up ways to get premium modules for free.

It would be added if the Tomcat was going to be in a situation where it was fighting JF-17's. So there's no reason why they shouldn't.

How does the SD-10 missile compare to the AIM-120C?
CommanderRabb replied to MobiSev's topic in JF-17 Thunder
The Phoenix is as accurate as Heatblur can make it (they went to great lengths to do so) and it's supposedly capable of flying 100+ miles under the right conditions. So it flying 70miles, is not a realism issue. The Hornet having 10 Slammers and a Litening Pod, while taking off from carrier is also not a realism issue, since the total weight with those, plus internal fuel, plus two Sidewinders is 42,659 lbs and the max take off weight is 51,900. It looks ridiculous, but it's not beyond the stated limits of the plane. Don't know why they made the AGM-154B for F-16 if it never existed. But I can't see how it really harms anything either. The weapon was going to be deployed on USAF block 50 F-16's. As for the SD-10, all I care is that they modeled it as accurately as they could. I haven't found it to be too difficult though. The issue lies with the underperforming AIM-120 more than anything else. If it worked properly, I'm sure you would be hearing alot less complaining about the JF-17/SD-10. -
Indeed, it is not the plane for me either. Prefer the analog stuff. But it makes a marvelous target drone. Which is what I spent my DCS time today doing. :)
-
Long been the bane of my existence. I just use the PLM/PAL switch. Thank Gord for the guy who thought to put that in the plane. :)
-
Yes, please.:)
-
He sure is. Gets scared everytime the plane gets damaged and bails out, when he thinks I'm losing control of things. It's always akward flying back to base with an empty back seat and realizing that (ironically) he probably didn't survive. Also back in the early days of EA, sometimes he would eject from the plane on the ground for no reason while you were doing the startup checklist.

F/A18E/F Super Hornets block 1 and BLock 2 E/F ( lot 26)
CommanderRabb replied to Kev2go's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would like that too, but it's likely to be some years yet before the possibility of a Super Hornet module can be realized. -
All I ask of the JF-17 is that it's modeled accurately and flies realistically, along with all of its weapons. It should not be balanced. This is a simulator, not that P2P/P2W combat game with planes. ED needs to fix it's AIM-120 so that it performs properly, whether that's equal to or better than the SD10.

What are you gonna do? Spend the money filling your car with liquor bottles from the LC? (S05E01). Lol.
-
You would let that stop you from buying the Tomcat? Even though they clearly explained why they couldn't? That's very sad to hear.
-
They are definitely horrible at fuel efficiency. They always seem to run out of fuel deep behind enemy lines, whereas you fly 150 miles back to the boat and still have 1500lbs at touchdown. I've also seen them fly into mountains and refuse to drop their bombs on the target, despite being told to do so.
-
In any case they seem to work better below 8 miles range and with a substantial lead on the target. To be fair, when they do hit, it's almost always a KO.:) I've actually had some success with them in the mission Ode To Mongo.
-
I concur. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.:megalol: Never cared for the fluff.

Will Combined Arms get further development?
CommanderRabb replied to cTB1440p's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
It's probably too ambitious. -
My son bought the Hornet. I have few questions.
CommanderRabb replied to aw33com's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This. Long ago I had a Wingman Attack 2. It seemed to have problems with wandering. So I junked it (assuming I was too rough with it) and got a Wingman Attack 3 (years ago). It is just as bad. Won't stay centered, even after trying to calibrate it in Windows. I still manage to enjoy the game despite, but it really makes things much harder than they need to be. Eventually gonna replace it with something of superior quality. -
the last single mission in new update
CommanderRabb replied to dmatsch's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Actually I stand corrected about the helicopters not blowing up. Turns out I didn't set the fuse settings on the bomb run... Thus the bombs were landing on target but not actually exploding. Figured this out in another mission. Lol. -
I did (like swapping Hornet with Tomcat). But that's cheating. It only counts if you did the mission as prescribed by the maker. In any case I found ways to work around the problem and ultimately prevailed. But it doesn't change the fact that it's still a pretty lousy weapon.

But is it realistic? Especially considering the current state of things?
