  1. Awesome! You have just made my new desktop :)
  2. I think you could do it, considering the targets are really close, so that you won't move the laser designator around too much to cause the Vikhr to lose the laser beam. It will go wherever it points in the end, isn't it? :) Also since Vikhr is A2A capable, there shouldn't be any problems with missile keeping up with the laser beam I suppose. Although, I believe Shkval locking is heavily scripted and there's no info about how the laser beam is modelled; so there may be game engine limitations about that too. I really like these type of "challanges" in sims, as they show facts about how the things modelled to what extend ;)
  3. It's always good ;D
  4. It's not "fair" to compare ArmA2 with BS because they are like apples and oranges. ArmA 2 is an infantry simulator rather than a flight sim, and the game engine is optimised for ground view. Most of the details are turned off(texture resolution, shadows, grass and foliage) when flying in an aircraft. I also remind you those screenshots are from a pre-alpha build.
  5. Nice work ;)
  6. Dunno, I pretty much agree with their points. Definitely some of the better reviews out there, the reviewer seems like he took his time. BS is awesome about "only" Ka-50, and it's realistic modelling. Environment except Ka-50 is still very basic and limiting. I'd give it something like %75 though. I'm sure the scores will go up with the upcoming modules as ED finds time to improve the simulation overally (AI, graphics, sound, landscape).
  7. OP you made my day :D
  8. Oh well, RIP. Test piloting is a dangerous job indeed. Also a very valuable and expensive equipment is lost from USAF inventory.
  9. I have bought Cyborg X two months ago and it's definitely a top-notch joystick. It's been quite accurate(I can say on par with my MSFFB2 and better than default X-52), and buttons are smartly placed. Two big throttles come in handy especially in sims like IL-2. Trim wheel is a handy addition as well. It's like a miniature HOTAS. My only gripe is that the part that seperates stick from the base(after springs) is a bit loose, and therefore stick moves forward and backward(wobble) without moving the base. It's a bit hard to describe. I haven't been giving much attention to it before, but now it started to annoy me a little. I'm thinking of some mods to solve it :)
  10. Troll thread D:
  11. It's really not up to our vote. It's a matter of what materials they have to sufficiently model aircraft. Although not certain, Wags wrote that ED is thinking about AH-64, A-10A, A-10C, Mig-29A, F-15C, Su-27 and Mi-24 for future modules.
  12. Yes you can. With lowest details and middle resolutions (1280x720, 1280x800) you should be able to get playable framerates(20-50). Also be sure to use the affinity trick(check DCSMax thread). You must do some tweaking to get medium settings with good framerates though.
  13. That's some shoddy flying on pilots part.
  14. I'm hoping for some decent action and lots of secret uncoverings this episode :) Not to say the last 5-6 episodes weren't good, but I have an impression that there are still many things left to be said. My beer stock is already ready for tomorrow :D
  15. Mostly TL;DR for me for the manual :) The best learning I've done is watching videos and tracks coupled with lots of error/trial.
  16. It shouldn't be hard to program a simple image-processing script that allows locking onto "contrasted patches". You can very well represent analog processes in a digital sim ;)
  17. I don't think that addon being released by ED makes it "theirs", hence no copyright problems. It should be no problem as long as the addon maker agrees with ED to distribute his work in a patch(considering he's not willing to sell it). Many companies distribute user generated content(maps, vehicles, textures) in their patches, heck even one of my maps integrated into a Red Orchestra patch without any fuzz :)
  18. Yes you can't lock on destroyed vehicle wrecks which I find pretty weird. It's not realistic and probably a design limitation?
  19. It's absolutely same as the download version, so it isn't supposed to perform better.
  20. After the last part of the video, I think next step for you is landing inside a hurricane with AP assists turned off with eyes closed.
  21. I think Core2Duo's get much more performance out of affinity trick. I get 15-20FPS more with my modest laptop system.
  22. Just PM Jessy as I did a while ago. No need to open threads about this in General Discussion. State the OS you're using and the hardrive path to the game in your PM and he'll send you a registry file if you be kind enough.
  23. TBH I find them totally unnecessary for desktops. You won't gain any noticable performance with games, but they are good for copy pasting large files and watching the numbers for your pleasure? Nah, I'd rather wait 5 mins more for that money. SSD's for laptops on the other hand, are a must for future. Less power usage and durability(HDD is one of the most broken parts of laptops) makes them desirable.
  24. Alt-Tab out of the game and get back in. Happens to me sometimes too.
  25. BI tanks are really terrible right now, FYI :) I'd rather have ED to do the tanks^^
