DCS VoIP/radio integration with TeamSpeak 3
192nd_Erdem replied to Shaman's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Smart choice. Mumble has top notch sound quality and the best latency in gaming VOIP programs(TS, Ventrillo). My clan has been using it over 1 year and we've never looked back. -

Well, you can't. But I don't believe any BS fan out here will be playing this game on top of himalayas with a laptop. Also, chances of Steam going bust is far far more slim than ED or Starforce :) -

Steam games can still be sold as retails, so you can have that big box on the shelf still :) Though, singleplayer Steam games can be cracked(but can't be updated or be played MP). No matter what you use it'll get cracked anyway. Steam's best sides are ease of use and the ability to reach your game anywhere. -

Because no "hacker" ever cared for FC? There wasn't much anticipation as have been for BS too. -

Steam doesn't install any drivers, doesn't modify system files. It's just a program like a messenger that you can leave it working behind. It only needs 5-6Mb's of RAM, and NO CPU at all when idle. -
Looks like download version is out.

. . . only in "CIS". Not in Europe, which is a very small percent of Europe. We don't have the game yet. -

That "built in advertising" is just a news pop-up window opens once in 1-2 weeks after you exit a game. It includes important notices, game updates, and new releases. Nothing to bug you out. Yes, you can have full mod support including altering games original system files. That's great to hear! :) -

I believe these series HAS TO be on Steam at some point. Because it's has incredible customer potential, everything is integrated, there's no limitations, and you get in touch with millions of people easily. For example, just take a look at Tripwire, developers of Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45. They won the contest, polished up their mod and released it over Steam. It couldn't have been more successful. Though if they released it on only retail with an unknown budget publisher, it'd have faded out by this time. You can even include your so beloved Starforce protection with Steam but you can cut out the activations as the Steam does that job for you. If ED wants to maximise their sales, I'd suggest them to consider it rather than trying to create a limited-reach market as they did with FC. -
I wonder why they used an Iran map to "demonstrate" the capabilities of both aircraft. Great documents though.

TBH I've heard that Ka-50 has been quite successful in Chechenya. It's powerful coaxial motor and heavy armor made it perfect for such a low-level conflict in a high mountain area. I don't really know why Erdogan was dropped, but probably Army didn't want to go on a unproven "last minute" redesign helicopter. There's still a prejudice against Russian stuff after 90's probably :) I'm quite happy with their decision though, today you need a light, fast & powerful equipped helicopter rather than a flying tank, and it's competely ours to customise. Also A-129 is a better design to improvise on. Maybe we'll able to make the next generation helicopter completely by ourselves.

I think that is a very clever kind of modelling, to let the simulation do the job rather than defining everything with scripts. Oh and while we're at it, why don't you devs make a "Dev diary entry" about how the whole simulation of Black Shark works? I'm sure the sheer amount of work gone into it will attract much more people to buy your products.

BS Shark may be their "private" property, but they're not doing it as a hobby. They are doing it FOR customers, and us. If customer is happy, we'll spread the good news and they'll make lots of money. If we're not, both sides lose. Gaming industry has a very little tolerance for being so "selfish" about a game. You can't say, "We're sorry you have to wait 3 more months, you have to pay way more, and don't you dare to touch the Russian version during this wait!". I could understand your "granddaddy" attitude if ED was just a mod group making their work in their little free time, but apparently they're not. Just my 2 cents, probably I won't be able to play it for a year anyway.

no "first impression" from the Russians yet?
192nd_Erdem replied to leafer's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Also, any feedback from Russian people about the new editor? I'd like to hear about improvements and trigger types as there's no(-t enough) official English information available. -

What is the copy protection for the Russian version by the way? I hope it's not SF again. -
Well, I have brought the issue up way back in 2005 but ED doesn't seem to be concerned about it. IMO it will really hurt immersion that we still have 15 years old damage model, but they have their priorities eh? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=11939

To sum up my thoughts: "Hell, it's about time." On the OT part: I'm just gonna say "Gears of War 2" to you, it should be enough.
-
It's the same old ArmA with a little graphics improvements, no improvements on the "simulation" part. OFP2 is much more promising at the moment.
-
It's the same old DirectX 8.1 engine with some DX9 shadowing improvements, that's all. ED is developing a new game engine though.

DCS: Black Shark Producer's Note #7 Streaming Version Available

Apparently, vimeo doesn't allow gaming videos anymore. http://www.vimeo.com/blog:140 -
It's pretty simple actually. It just that once it fires, the bullets are gone. There's no "magazine". Reload should be taking forever on that thing. If this thing can't hit the missile on the first try, good luck "negotiating" with the missile. The possibility of numbers are impressive, but that's just it. I'd rather invest on a proven CIWS system like Phalanx.

Who are the enemies in DCS & witch countries take part?
192nd_Erdem replied to Dr. Mitsos's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I don't think it's different than what we have in Flaming Cliffs, as it takes place in the same area. Though with the enlarged map, parts of Turkey( Batum airbase and such) and Georgia will be included. As for TAF vs HAF, Greece is quite far away from the Black Sea scene so I it's a bit unlikely. But as developers released mapping tools, who knows :) Maybe someone will come up with an Aegean map. Though, if such thing will ever exist, IMO DCS forums will be destroyed with Turko-Greco flaming fest :P -
F-16 because if ED can pull it off better than Falcon, all Falconites will *have to* get DCS. Which will ensure the future of DCS series.
