  1. Is that switch actually working? If you mouse over it says no function. I tried a night mission and kept pressing it and never noticed a change. ...... Just tested this. While it does still say no function, it does indeed work. You have to PRESS AND HOLD (I was just spamming the button and that doesn't seem to work). Sure does make nightvision ccip passes and gun runs much better!
  2. Hmm. Generally, most games/sims do like take kindly to being alt-tabbed at all, especially during loading. It sounds like maybe the graphic config for dcs got corrupt? Try a different game and see if it plays normally. That should rule out any graphic driver related problem. You may need to reinstall dcs warthog. You might be able to just delete the graphics config files and see if the program recreates them with defaults, but if it doesn't, don't blame me! (always make backups of stuff like that :D )
  3. Nope, you do get to choose if you would like to look at the left or the right wing to check though!
  4. Go with the torrent download. Please seed for a bit too people. It really isn't hurting for seeds right now though lol! Speeds are good, I'm pulling 1MB/s. I'll seed for the next few nights.
  5. I agree that voice overs would be great, but I wouldn't really bother until: a: the mission is nearing final release version and... b: dcs: warthog is out of beta You may end up doing lots of work only for it to be incompatible with the retail version of the sim. I don't know enough about the mission editor to know if it would be a simple process to bring a mission up to date or not, or if it would even be required to do so. Also: When I started after I changed the player from 'start from ramp' to 'runway', it started me out viewing one of the ai planes and only after 10-25 seconds of watching and flipping around the various ai planes, did I get plopped into my a-10.
  6. I tried this mission for the first time tonight. I did edit it so I didn't have to start the plane up. I didn't have any problems until I started orbiting at wp3. Then it just froze until I killed it with task manager. I haven't had time to try again. Do you think it would have anything to do with me changing it from ramp to runway?
  7. Probably in the next beta. I'm looking forward to its implementation as well!
  8. Thanks for the explanation, Viper!
  9. I've been aiming just below the target, enabling pac, and then fire for just under 2 seconds. Now what I've seen happen when I fire is: there is an initial recoil that 'walks' the rounds up through the target, but then it begins to fall back down, and usually stabilizes on the target. I'm not sure if that is how PAC is susposed to work or if that is part of the bug. As for locking the gau-8 (gun) on a target, no. There is no way to lock a fixed gun on a target in the a-10. This isn't the ka-50 with its slightly movable cannon. You can point the targeting pod over to the target and set an SPI which will help you locate the proper target on the hud though.
  10. Pentium 4 are old and retired. You will most likely have to build/buy a new computer if you want to run at max settings. It's very unlikely for you to be able to upgrade cpu, or much of anything hardware wise, on a Dell. If you find the service tag, you can look it up on support.dell.com
  11. I'm not sure what that is. Are you talking about overall field of view? You can zoom in and out with keypad / and * .
  12. Best to copy it to a usb drive or maybe email if it isn't too large. There was a link in the forum a while back that had a download of the manual, try searching for it.
  13. If type one isn't in the beta build we have right now, it may be in a later build. I don't see why it wouldn't be in there. I'm really excited to see what the community as well as ED does with JTAC integration. It's just as exciting as flying the a-10! This actually makes we want to learn how to use the map editor.
  14. I'll put it on my iphone once it is out of beta, until then, my MBP beside my sim computer works well. I don't quite see why some people are getting a beta manual printed out. There are errors and IMHO, the thing seems out of order.
  15. AFAIK, the refueling is not completely functional in beta 1.
  16. To answer: 1. Yes, practice the weapons like you would practice guitar, or anything else. 2. Smoke, I think, will be used as realistically as it can be during missions. In the beta at this point it might still be buggy/work in progress 3. JTAC is WIP and mostly not functioning correctly in the current (beta 1) beta. Wags has a youtube video where the JTAC is much more active and functional, expect that in maybe beta 2 or 3?
  17. Well when it does get here, I hope it isn't like windows update where there are around 10+ AND we have to reboot!
  18. Yeah, at least in the a-10 you have "some" speed and maneuverability . I would try going out in the ka-50 and would get shot down before I had time to do anything about it :( . I never got confident enough to fight in that thing. Always was afraid of blade clash. Loved just flying it around and target practice though! As for a-10 ground attack tactics, I'm reading a book about it and I believe there are some articles on simhq that might help out. The book, if anyone is interested is, warthog - flying the a-10 in the gulf war.
  19. Will it also display the price per gallon? "Uh yeah, I'd like about $538.30 worth of fuel. Thanks!" , "Roger that. Could you please hold your credit card up to the glass?" Seriously though, can't wait to practice this!!
  20. Just look at it this way. Don't worry about buying food since you'll be too busy flying the a-10 with the tm hotas to eat. financial crisis averted! howzat?
  21. And to continue this macmall thing. Macmall actually called me out of the blue today to tell me my warranty on my macbook pro I ordered from them a year ago is about to expire! They wanted to sell me a 3 year warranty, which I quickly shot down. I didn't think to ask them about the TM HOTAS though lol. I'm waiting to see if newegg or amazon get it. Compare prices and stock, and go from there. If that fails, maybe from macmall then.
  22. Ok, so in real life it does what I expected it to do, but from what you are saying it sounds like the TM HOTAS does not actually do that? It doesn't change the friction since it is just another electronic axis for the computer to use, but you are saying there is a different adjuster for the actual physical friction on the throttle unit somewhere? Like under it or something? Thanks for the info!
  23. Both eventually! I don't really use track ir that much with the a10 yet. I mean, it isn't a fighter so you don't have to do as much looking around (I know, I know...still very important to look around). Not nearly as much looking around as I do in rise of flight. But being able to move your head and the game view follow is nearly always helpful...except trying to hit the MFD buttons :( . I usually disable/pause trackir for startup and when I need to interact with the cockpit via clicking. As for the HOTAS. I've never used one before but I'd imagine they are really nice! I have the same stick you use and it is ok, but lacking buttons and the throttle just doesn't feel right. I use my thumb and finger to move the throttle, kinda feels wimpy yah know? You do a lot of throttle work in the a10, especially if you are down in the mud doing pop ups and strafing/bombing runs. Don't forget the more natural buttons and switches that will be on the HOTAS. Forget learning keybinds because you'll actually have the real button/switch on the unit. So, for the a10, I would probably go with the HOTAS first. See if you think you'll want to use a head tracker with it. You can test with freetrack of course. You can't really test a HOTAS with your current joystick though. Remember, if you do get the TM HOTAS, you'll need some rudder pedals, or map a key (two keys) on the keyboard for rudder control.
  24. Just hide it under your shirt or something. I've yet to order mine, but I have found the funds!
