Reloading Artillery how to& reloading time - MLRS
Echonomix replied to Duke49th's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I believe they do reload. I think the mission 'battle.miz' from dcs: blackshark has MLRS units firing more than one barrage. I want to say around 8-12 minutes, but that is just a guess from the last time I watched the battle. here we go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BM-21_Grad "reload is around 10 minutes" I just watched a acmi from the battle in tacview. It took the grad 9 minutes from the first barrage to the second. EDIT: actually there are 4 bm-21s. They all fired at the same time the first barrage. Then after 9 minutes, one unit fired again, then about another minute later the next unit fired again. By 12 minutes after the first barrage, all four had fired their second attack. So it seems that the reload can be a little bit random, probably depending on the skill set in the mission. -
Should, but doesn't.

Nice work! I was playing around the ME today...Sent three b52 to carpet bomb an airport...hehe, it was really fun watching some 140 bombs creep from one end of the taxi way to the other. I had a flight of f16s to take out the runway, but they decided it was more fun to just circle waypoint 1 instead :( That got me thinking about vehicle parking. I put a few ground units around the taxiways and let them 'catch' some of the bombs. Secondary explosions are fun too! I'd like to see a pdf of all the units in the sim. Trying to make missions when you know nothing about most of these units is rough. The built in encyclopedia is a nice start, but it doesn't contain enough info, imo.

Track IR does not work with the 64 bit version of DCS at the moment. There should be a fix from natural point to provide 64bit support. Just throwing that in here. It is working fine with ATI software/hardware. (I know that part of the thread was from July)

Wow totally awesome! I wonder how many 30mm casings he had to give out? You should have hinted at getting him to join the forums and fly with us.

It's been around for a while. Never cared enough to try it though.

You'll adapt. I would the think the action of the joystick itself would be much better than the saitek action. Sure the buttons are in different places and hard to press. But do you think real world pilots that get the chance to fly the real thing quit because of the hotas? I doubt it! Give it 3 weeks and see if you get used to it. I can let you know on Monday or Tuesday, whether I like it or not.

So DCS doesn't detect and automatically map the keys, you have to go in and open the config (.lua) file? Not a problem. I thought it was all automatic. Why map wheel brake to a switch? Don't use rudder pedals?

Dust covers For The Warthog

That sounds like a perfect use of a pillow case. -
Thrustmaster WartHog Switchgear
Echonomix replied to MadDogMcQ's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't see why you would want to put covers on the switches. How could dust be that big of a problem? Use compressed air if you are worried about dust, or better yet, cover the entire unit when you won't use it. Also, don't use it with dirty hands! seriously. -
Awesome! Mine should be in this Monday! Good idea trying it out in blackshark. I think I'll give that a try too.

ShopBLT - More TM Warthogs on the way!
Echonomix replied to JG27_Arklight's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have not placed my order anywhere yet, but I do like the info that BLT provides on their site. Much better than some of these other 'back alley-looking' websites, lol. -
I was waiting the entire time for an a-10 to attack! :D Cool vid though. I was wanting them to shoot in the air, full auto style, but I can understand why they wouldn't. I'm reading those books right now and would also hope we can get red tracers on these. I know the hinds have green tracers in black shark so I'm sure it can be done. Heck, I dunno, could it be something as simple as changing a hex color value somewhere? Surely the tracers aren't actually textured.

Why bother with lights? Most of the pilots do this blindfolded right? :D I was driving today. I kept syncing speed with the cars around me in preparation for in flight refueling....not kidding here :) Slightly OT question: Is there a way, or going to be a way, to change the mission editor measurements from metric to imperial?
-
It depends. You'll know if you need to update direct x. I don't recall the exact error, but it isn't hard to figure out that it is talking about direct x.

Keep it under 1/2 or even 1/4 ( either 6 oclock or 4, no later) and you want to aim for the least armored part, which is the back/rear of the tank. Speed is good to have, but it does make it harder to aim because you have less time to get the 'thing on the thing'. But you need to stay close to corner air speed so you can get the heck out of there and have some energy to jink or whatever you need to do to not get shot down.

bird strikes! (no, not birds on strike...just to clarify, just in case) :D

I was going over writing out steps for start up and it seems the stuff about radio setup is either out of place, or there is a paragraph/sentence that could be removed/changed. p. 420 "Most often you will have configured the radios when starting the aircraft, but if not, now is the time to do so." I read this as that the engines are already running, which they are not yet in the start up flow in the manual. In the beta 2 manual this comes it right after you have started the APU and the APU is powering the systems. This seems like a good time to set up the radios, so maybe this sentence just needs to be removed. Unless, the radios aren't supposed to be set up until after the main engines are running.

And, what speed should the tanker be set to in the mission? I tried this in beta one and the tanker thought we were drag racing. Well, I was never able to catch up to the tanker.
