TrackIR not as smooth in 2.5 as 2.2 and 1.5.8
mdee replied to Jacks's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Hi, DPC latency very unlikely has any effect on the issues you are experiencing. Issues with DPC latency affect streaming data, usually audio, sometimes video. If you had real issues with latency you would hear audio dropouts way before noticing any other negative effects. -

proccowboy - this is very plausible theory, thing is that trackir input rate does not have to be fixed 120 "fps" - it should be possible to make it variable and adjust to current monitor frame rate. Problem is that Natural Motion stopped updating the software in 2016 and I am not sure if they acknowledge existence of variable refresh rate monitors and very high FPS capable systems. Whether this can be resolved game side or tir software side, I don't know. The problem we describe doesn't happen when using mouse/stick to pan. bwt I did exactly what you said, locked DCS FPS @ 120. ps. Same with monitor refresh rate and fps - but this is a different issue and it's solved for people with gsync monitors which can adjust refresh rate dynamically. -

Identical issue in 2.5 beta. Gsync 144Hz monitor, TrackIR5, up to date PC, running DCS at 60-200 FPS. On my regular settings (high) I get around 100 FPS on average @2k resolution. For time being my workaround is to turn off MSAA which allows me to lock frame rate @120FPS solid. Trackir panning microstutters/jitters if frame rate is not locked to 60 or 120 fps. Turning GSync off doesn't help. No issues in other games. The issue is not noticeable on low end (60hz non-gsync) monitor, probably because frame rate is always capped at 60fps.

Yeah any frame rate which isn't 60 or 120 will potentially make the issue noticeable. It's less noticeable at very high (>120) frame rates. Yes, it does look exactly as you described. -

This sort of problems are hard to diagnose as they are not obvious, the jitters I get are really subtle, but persistent, which makes them quite annoying. Different people have different tolerances to this - it's not a show stopping thing for many people too. If I were to speculate this may have something to do with the rate physics engine runs at in relation to display/render frame rate, trackir polling rate etc. - pure speculation here. I strongly doubt it has anything to do with antiviruses, reinstalling and other usual snake oil "solutions", so if I were you I'd not waste your time on these. Personally I just stick to 60 or 120 fps and live with it for time being. -

The best way to see it is to lock frame rate at 60fps (assuming the system tested can hold it) or 120fps and pan around with trackir. Unlock, or for the sake of experiment lock it at an odd value like 73fps and pan around again. The difference is noticeable. The jitters are not pronounced, some people may not directly notice them (I do see them all around on videos), but they are there and they result in tiredness after long period of playing - it's like a couple of frames delay/skip. It's very similar effect to what happens with vsync enabled for a 60hz monitor, but a game (any game) not being able to hold steady 60fps and falls back to 30fps. I am lucky that my system can hold steady 120fps at high settings, so the issue is masked. No issues in Arma 3 at any frame rate. -

Same issue here. If frame rate is not 60 or 120, trackir panning is jittery. 144Hz GSync monitor, I have up to date PC. -
Same here, G-Sync 144 monitor, 1080ti, 8700k, micro stutters when panning. Only "fix" is to limit frame rate to 60hz. Didn't notice any issues in Arma 3.

Hi, Are you going to offer stick + throttle + mounts bundle?
-
That's very true post. I hope I'll join you guys again this Sunday.

By the time you see AA battery or a MANPAD you are usually dead if flying K50. K50 helicopters (and other similar ones) are never sent for a mission if there is any serious AA threat present, because they are not equipped to fight this kind of a threat. That kind of stuff only happens in games.
-
Hmm that means it's useless if there is any AA threat present? K50 is like flying duck if there is any serious AA around. I kind of can understand why Russian army doesn't like the concept of one seater attack helicopter tho.

Thank you very much for your response, I fully understand what you say. Trouble is I do not pull cyclic back, I just let go of the stick to neutralize it, because I haven't got force feedback stick and this is how it was demonstrated in producer notes. All the rest is autopilot/game trim mechanism, I don't do anything. Watch producer notes at 3:39 when he says ".. release it, center the stick". He gets the same kind of jump. I flew a helicopter numerous times as a passenger next to a pilot and just recently had a chat with a couple of them and this is not how the trim works. Trim keeps cyclic in position to neutralize the forces and autopilot tries to stabilize ordered flight parameters. It's of course not a point it and fly directly where you point, there are small changes etc, but if conditions don't change abruptly there is definitely no 5-10 percent jump after you lock the cyclic using the trimmer. It wasn't K50 helicopter tho. By the way they also told me that it's discouraged to hold the trimmer and move the cyclic, they never do that. Anyway, I got used to it and it doesn't really matter if this is real K50 thing (I feel pity for the pilots tho ;) ) or in game implementation flaw. Thanks a lot for looking at my track!

Track is up a couple of posts above. Observe when I press and release, helo jumps up (or down) When I do the same pull and press - hold and release, helo doesn't jump. These are not big corrections or anything. It feels like AP is kicking in too slow when you press and release quickly and assumes slightly different flight parameters than ordered by releasing a button. Maybe this is how KA50 AP works, I don't know, but it feels weird, and if this is for real, I feel sorry for KA50 pilots ;) Pressing and holding trim button basically disables AP, I'd rather not do that too often, might as well fly in permanent FD mode, can't imagine that in combat and/or gusty wind with turbulences. I am not that skilled.
-
Maybe. So, you saying I should push the trimmer 3-4 times during 5-10 degrees pull up (that's 3-4 times a second, more or less) on cyclic when helo is hovering (ie. no speed)? If I do that, that jump would build up to around 30-40 degrees, I can demonstrate that and post a track, I've tried. By the way, the jump is happening on release, not on press. I'd definitely not hold the trimmer for more than a second or 2, ever. I want to stay alive for a while ;). That's actually quite nicely modelled in DCS Blackshark, helo gets very unstable quick if there is any wind and trimmer pushed down. Anyway, I don't mind, the game is great and definitely most realistic helicopter simulator which can be bought for less than 50$ (I don't expect military grade sim)

What I'm doing wrong? Overspeed/blades brokens :(..

I have the same issue and it's not your joystick (I use X52). There is definitely something fishy with trim implementation in this game, I learned to live with it, but it's not working properly. Being forced to hold and release trim because of this jump is just wrong. You should be able to press-release (just as you do on your track, that's how you would trim a helicopter with this type of trim in RL) without such drastic change of flight parameters. Anyway it's fine as it is, I don't mind, I understand that without having a proper force feedback it's really hard to implement, just don't try to press and hold method if you try to fly real helo ;).

I get ice warnings when I fly 2 meters over the ground in winter.

Where did yu find Frazer's track? I am not a pro, but here is mine doing a couple of loops. Watch rotor blade rpm gauge. Normally I never use FD mode, I find AP very usefull for keeping my hands free for weapon systems. fooling_around.trk -
Does it work on Windows 7 64bit?

Here is mine, you can re-assign functions as you wish, but most vital keys are defined and properly described. DCS_Blackshark.rar

Great stuff, thanks! I'd suggest setting a password to the server and posting it to this forum, so you don't get totally random people causing trouble :). I'll definitely check your server tonight.
