  1. Two weeks. On a side note, they should have said it was in, I bet a lot of people would notice drastic improvement.
  2. Thanks - this should help a lot of people.
  3. Not really convinced by this video, he zooms in in the cockpit all the time, the rest doesn't look that great. Commendable attempt, but I'll wait for a review from someone who knows how to turn autopilot on and spent some time flying DCS in VR so it's not immediately smitten by the graphics. I'd buy it right away for science, but seems like I'll need to wait longer in the UK.
  4. What exact percentage of users have issues? I am really keen to find out what you are surprised by.
  5. 60 fps at low settings isn't really acceptable (esp. with poor SteamVR ASW) - it will still look bad like 1.0 headsets, just in different way. For some it may work. I'll still buy it, but with expectation that it will only start to show its value in DCS when next gen of gfx cards is out, it will alos definitely shine in less demanding games, like Project Cars and Elite. I am not really surprised here. It's a headset aimed at business/design use where frame rates aren't that important. Good to see the tech being pushed forward anyway.
  6. I have none of these issues. I'll report back when Reverb is available for purchase and compare it with S.
  7. Please send a sample to Spudknocker, he is your man - you will get massive publicity from it and do a great favour to DCS community.
  8. I'll order if you don't screw around with wait times, dodgy "pre-orders" and restocks like any other "high end" company other there. In other words - you have it in stock, I'll pay for it, you then ship it to me next day. I'll even send you a postcard if you manage to achieve the above :) I'll be super happy if you guys would be a real competition to these who I don't mention. What is the weight of the throttle and stick?
  9. Approximately 1.2 horizontally, considering FOV difference (70 vs 114). Anyone with decent gfx card (1080ti or better) should be ok - I am more concerned about substandard ASW equivalent and WMR software. AHving said that you will want to run PD over 1 with Reverb. 2k is still not enough. In reality, comparing to Rift-S the gain in horizontal res (again, considering FOV) is about 400 pixel, which is quite considerable change but not massive. It's likely yo be similar change (or smaller, as big gain in clarity from CV1 to S was OLED vs LCD and much better optics) to going from Rift CV1 to Rift-S (completely arbitrary, for me S clarity is about 10-20% better which is good enough to make it usable in DCS, comparing to really bad res of CV1). Reverb's FOV will be very nice upgrade over Rift, I think much more visible than clarity. Bottom line, it won't be nowhere near where monitors are. Not yet. We will celebrate when VR reaches 4k per eye in 3-5 years.
  10. It may sound weird, but when you put the headset on from the front (since you wearing glasses), do you by any chance exhale through the nose into the headset? That may cause fogging.
  11. Mine arrived yesterday. The grip is great, better feel/plastic too (my impression), besides the buttons. Please fix your purchasing process/stock, Virpil. I'd really like to get a new throttle, but restocks/pre-orders and other BS puts me off. I am not willing to deal with it again or wait 3 months.
  12. Software IPD setting is something different than adjusting distance between lenses mechanically (the confusion comes from terminology) The trouble with most VR lenses is that they have a sweet spot, eg. if you look into lens, the further away the pupil is from centre of the lens the worse image quality will get (simplifying). You want your pupils to be lined up with centre of the lens, spot on. That's achieved by moving lenses away from each other or towards each other to accommodate for wide/narrow faces. Headset w/o mechanical adjustment need to have bigger sweet spot and may not work in extreme cases, as your pupils will not look into sweet spot. IPD adjustment in software effectively changes the scale of the world (simplifying this as well and it's too much to type to explain why). It has absolutely nothing to do with mechanical lens distance adjustments I've described above, except that your IPD (distance between pupils) affects how "big" you see the world in VR - if there is a mismatch, the world may seem too small (tilt shift effect) or too big. But this does not affect image clarity. In short, Rift-S software IPD setting won't help.
  13. CV1 OLED was equally bad if not worse. They disabled true blacks on it. On the other side, I flew a couple of night missions in S and it was "serviceable", not great but ok. No mura, banding and virtually no god rays.
  14. Yeah, this. For me we are one gen away from something really usable which will (for me) shift the preference towards VR. I'll see how Reverb works out. Again, Rift-S is definitely worthy upgrade from CV1, do it! :)
  15. Definitely. If you are fussy about audio (btw having it in a strap has a lot of advantages in many situations), just buy a pair of good in ear phones or wait a bit for Oculus to come up with audio add-on.
  16. Download Oculus Tray Tool, in "Service" settings there is an option to shut Oculus service down on exit of the tool.
  17. CV1 was unusable (in DCS) gimmick, due to bad fidelity of the picture. Rift-S is usable, just. It's no replacement for good monitor and Track IR, yet. I've flown for over 10 hours yesterday in S, but today I didn't feel like it, so I went back to Track IR, guess what, it's still better, but it's no longer absolutely crushing VR in terms of fidelity. So there is two of us with unrepresentative views (or maybe with no need to self-justify our purchases or falling with love with cheap gaming hardware and defending it on the forums), I guess. Maybe Index will be better or Reverb, who knows. When they are out, I'll tell you, I'll have all of them as soon as they are released. Consumer VR is advancing at snail pace and while Rift-S (and even more so Quest) are step forward, it's far from fidelity and convenience of conventional monitor. Rift-S is still good upgrade from CV1 I'd recommend. That doesn't make it automatically perfect.
  18. Try some IR lighting? The headset has 3.5 mm jack in.
  19. Tip - go to Settings->Experiment and enable double click Oculus button to get pass through on demand, I find it very handy. By the way, I clocked about 6 hours today in DCS and I am still really happy with clarity. I never treated Cv1 as something I can spend 6 hours flying DCS in...
  20. Cleaning out the cupboard. Virpil CM grip only, right handed (not CM2), very good condition, used for a year, very slight sings of usage - £105 Oculus CV1 headset/2 sensors/2 touch controllers (approx 6 months old in great condition) - £185 Prices don't include shipping. Paypal. UK only please.
  21. Yeah, the difference isn't at first glance that big in Oculus games like Beat Saber or Robo Recall.. until you put CV1 back on and compare "side to side". |As I said in DCS it went from gimmick to useable.
  22. Got mine today, very positively surprised. Overall quality of the picture went from (CV1) "gimmicky crap" to "good enough". We are one gen away from VR being really good. I can see myself spending more time in VR but TrackIR is not going anywhere. I really like how comfortable and refined the design is comparing to CV1. Sound is not too bad for casual usage, I'd recommend plugging earbuds to be completely immersed. I'd say if you are on the edge of upgrading from CV1, do it. It's worth it. Now, I need more FOV and better optics, but Index should sort this out until next gen.
  23. It's either optics are much better (plausible, Rift engineers know what they are doing) or honeymoon period (potentially). I'll tell you on Thursday, as I am immune to honeymoon effect, have all new VR headsets coming as soon as they are released, so no bias.
  24. I'd consider this if I'd not have to screw around with 6 am stock schedules lasting for 10 minutes and unspecified (long) wait time. My issue with them is not prices/quality but awful sales service. BTW my CM2 grip pre-order from March 17 has not shipped yet (no, I don't want to ask support for it).
  25. Wait for CM3 or 4.. it's coming. I predict detents back and removal of the "ugly red button"™ 600EU plus taxes ;) Jokes aside, I am not going to buy a throttle w/o detents.
