  1. I don’t either, I always have it active on one of the DDIs for an overall picture, but I don’t use it that often except wpt designation and distant target altitudes. Once they get closer I tend to use the TWS radar mode for that instead. Probably on a multiplayer server with no F10 map available I would need to but, meh.
  2. You need to switch to FLIR mode from CCD mode.
  3. You don’t install the goggle like a weapon, you follow the text prompts to have the crew install it. and, yes, the pod will see at night. It’s literally an infrared targeting pod.
  4. Yeah you’re right, now I see. I’ve never even tried, it’s just as important to know where your friends are as your enemies.
  5. According to chucks guide, there’s a friend filter.
  6. Can you just bind any push button in the cockpit?
  7. https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/fa-18c/#[191,"XYZ",-8e-06,540,1] Also, reading chucks guide on the radar can help you at least understand you aren’t alone, it’s a lot of information to learn.
  8. Sadly, no. I use ATTH all the time, too.
  9. Also, ignore 160nm range on the radar. Just…skip it. If you need a big picture, use SA page at 160. Just. 80 miles max on radar.
  10. I tend to avoid auto mode for this very reason. I’m forgetful. I really only use it if I’m tracking a bandit who is changing altitude quickly. And only when I have to, or I’m distracted & have multiple other things to deal with, like sams. If I have a bandit at 40 while I’m doing SEAD and 1 amraam, auto it is, because I am not there to do air superiority, but to survive. Bottom line, hornet radar is complicated but powerful in the right hands. VS mode is pretty neat too, for anyone who hasn’t tried it. It’s the most powerful mode available, it will get jammed, and it will track and lock like shining a floodlight at the target. It’s very neat
  11. Jester probably takes a LOT of the workload off the pilot. That’s a feature. Keep in mind the bandit aspect ratio as well. You will have a very difficult time picking up a contact flying perpendicular to you. Also, I have found personally that med/hi interleave works better in general when I’m not sure of the bandits aspect to me (is he flying sideways or approaching at high speed). personally, I find 4 bar. 40 degree azimuth, 80nm range (for showing datalink general locations) with med/high interleave best (unless I know for sure it’s headed straight towards me, then I switch to high). high and fast (like 30k+) 80 nm range can get you a target beyond 40. But at medium or lower altitudes you likely won’t get a contact outside 40nm (perhaps due to speed, ground clutter, not sure). hornet simply has a higher pilot workload but trust me, one you start to get a feel for it, it’s extremely able. This specifically is very important. If you switch to AUTO mode, it will keep the elevation tracking a target. But if you lose lock, it can drift down to like -99,-99 so you’re looking almost straight down. Then it needs to be reset. Using the AZ/EL page is a great visual way to check where the radar is pointing when in doubt.
  12. You’re probably right, but I *do* see the bomb fall line shift very slightly (I’m talking pixels here) after UPDT/ACCPT in gps mode.
  13. There is an option to UPDT the GPS which may cause a very minor shift in hud targeting. I’m not sure exactly how it works (I don’t use ccip very often). Perhaps try that as you get very close to the target location, just to see if it changes.
  14. Does range to AWCS affect communications and/or datalink ?
  15. Hello, I wanted to say I love this map. Great work. I was wondering, do you have a ballpark estimate as time timelines for the next phases, and what we might see implemented? thank you.

  16. Thanks for the clarification on the range assumption, what’s the “-742” you referred to? Good to know it’s not 160, that range is useless when SA page is available and set to 160 if required.
  17. If you try it, you will see that you can adjust the radar elevation as normal. I assume this mode has a general maximum fixed range and calculates it as such. I don’t know what that is, but maybe it’s a default of 160 miles (same as the max RWS scan range)
  18. I’m confused (that’s normal though). can Srs users hear the built-in system? But not the other way around? it doesn’t seem ideal having 2 separate protocols with no cross communication between the 2.
  19. Wait…so without SRS you can just tune the radio and talk now?
  20. It’s hard to provide a track for this and narrow it down, as I play exclusively multiplayer now, and the conditions have to be “just right” with other players in the mix. It just feels like getting a warning from well outside possible detection range feels wrong. But if it’s meant to be, so be it, as previous reply stated by happening to be in the beam direction of another aircraft that’s closer, I’ll take it. I just wasn’t sure if this was a “known issue” or not. Thanks for the reply.
  21. Looks good, does it pass integrity check for MP servers?
  22. Hi there. Not to sound totally obvious, but did you set your in game options, like cockpit display resolution, MSAA, anisotropic filter, etc?
  23. That must be it. Because the only thing I see looking at a waypoint in the flir is my target diamond. I really only use the HSI for navigation entry stuff, 99% of the time I have SA page up for better …situational awareness.
  24. In fact, it’s quickly becoming my preferred method when engaging BVR with targets without jamming ability (an su-33 will jam you every single time, unless it’s engaging something else, in which case I’ll use TWS to avoid FF). VS mode will lock at very long range, and maintain a solid lock. 62 miles is the longest lock I’ve achieved so far. it will also maintain an excellent lock as you turn away towards the next target, once it goes pitbull, undesignate the 1st, lock the second, repeat, both dead.
  25. Uses standard elevation procedure. It shows on the AZL, or radar cursor. All other controls work as normal. Ideal to use in conjunction with datalink on SA page, which will give you a good idea of which contact is closest. You can adjust the azimuth and elevation as normal. as soon as you obtain a lock, range information is available from the missile range cue on the HUD. Only the radar scan itself doesn’t have range info. Once you obtain a lock, range appears on the HUD as normal.
