  1. I recently acquired a complete set of Aviation magazines that look like they were printed back in the early nineties. There's over a hundred and fifty of them and they mainly consist of interviews with pilots and designers of pretty much every fighter and civilian aircraft you can think of, from WWI to GF1..as well as Concorde, Boeing etc.. I've only looked through a few of them so far and there's some pretty good articles that some of you may find interesting. Here's a couple of them I found and scanned in on the Mig-29. The first one is an interview with one of the Mig test pilots and a designer from Mikoyan Design Bureau. The second documents the development of the Mig29.
  2. I have a M$FFB as well and IMO you should always turn off the FFB effects in lockon. With FFB set to true the controls become less precise when adding minute stick inputs which just irritates me. And that's not to mention the odd way in which the stick is pulled forward or backwards when adjusting pitch trim. Anyway I have always had the opposite problem and that is the centering forces are stuck on the maximum settings and no matter what I adjust it never seems to help, so I have to use a separate piece of software which I'll explain in a second. First try this: http://forum.lockon.ru/showpost.php?p=65263&postcount=4 If that doesn't work then try the attached file and use either 3beta or 4 beta it really doesn't matter. It doesn't install so you can try it out with no risk to your PC or install. All you have to do is run rtc then run lockon and either in game or before you click fly press F10 to engage RTC then F6 to lessen the centering force or F7 to strengthen the centering force. This does mean you'll have to reassign keys from F5 to F10 in game because you cant adjust keys for RTC .. I use the Numpad keys so F10 becomes numpad 0, F5 becomes keypad 5 etc. RTC was designed for M$ racing wheel but it also solves the centering force issues a lot Sidewinder users have. I like it because I can adjust the forces on the fly and have a stronger force for Russian planes and a weaker one for US planes with out having to close Lockon and adjust the sidewinder settings. rtc.zip
  3. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/27/AR2007052700760.html Although this display is years away from general release, I can still imagine a million and one uses for it for flightsimers. Anything from Home cockpits to rap around canopy type screens. :) how cool would that be.
  4. I haven't looked at the thread you linked to because the last thing I care about is what an F4 fanboi nut job :joystick: thinks about lockon. I just thank God that they don't regularly infect our forums anymore with their fanatical Falcon 4 evangelism. At least now they are smart enough to keep their cult type views of the world of flightsiming to themselves on the Frugal boards where I'm sure they are more comfortable, but like all closed off communities they just breed fanaticism.
  5. Here's a screen shot of a few areas. For more precise coordinates just download this Test Mission I just made that marks several areas. Leave labels on and just press F2 to switch between regions to check them out in game .. Also all the pics I posted were taken over the Ukraine marked by the Su33 in the mission. ShootingClouds.rar
  6. If you're looking for a different atmosphere to carry out ground attack missions then try setting the over cast clouds to about 350 to 400 meters with a 100 meter thickness. Then put your targets on any hill or mountain top that protrude through the cloud layer. It really gives you a sense of height above the target and it looks cool too :D .
  7. Wait a minute ... I recognize the hand writing!! ... ruggbutt you lucky dog!! :megalol:
  8. Its sounds like you need a little more practice evading IR missiles. It is the most difficult type of evasion and if you haven't prepared your fighter before you get with in IR range then you might as well eject ;). Here's a short sequence of screen shots that show the perfect evasion of an IR missile heh ;) . Notice I'm not using any AB and I lay down the Flares like a string of pearls, actually it's chaff and flares I'm dumping; I have a rule that BVR evasions get Chaff only but WVR gets chaff and flares. Also I'm using gravity to keep my speed up so I dont have to use AB but if you're going to slow then speed is more important then creating a larger heat signature for the missile. Lastly never take you eyes off of your opponent and keep looking for the smoke trails from missile.
  9. Well I guess that means more for me .. muhahahah    :megalol: :megalol:
  10. LOL .. well why don't we both choose one of Frost1e's girls ;) .
  11. OMG .. hey zzzspace, I haven't seen you around here for years..Welcome back :) .
  12. Cheat?? you mean something like this?
  13. Just gave it a test run .. looks awesome
  14. Thx and glad you found it useful :) . Well I'm not sure your colors are that far off but its always best to try and match the scheme as accurately as possible whether a slight deviation looks better or not. That said its tough to actually match real world colors 100% in a sim especially when you're working with photos taken in such bad lighting... although you still managed to do a great job:thumbup: . If you do want to try and match the color more precisely then here's some pics and a couple of web sites I just searched for that might help you. You should be able to use Photoshops "Eyedropper" tool on some of the pics, where the lighting isn't so dark, to get the exact color more accurate. http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/9027/su30mk2favae2.jpg http://www.fav-club.com/articulos/flankeranida/flankervzla.htm http://www.fav-club.com/articulos/flankeranida/flankervzla2.htm http://www.fav-club.com/articulos/flankeranida/flankervzla3.htm edit: this one too .. http://video.aviacia.ru/417 http://www.machtres.com/fav.htm
  15. Damn nice job
  16. Here's an old post of mine ;) .. try it this way its much more fun. http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/6501041074?r=7951004074#7951004074
  17. On a lighter note ;) I'm building a "Nissan 350Z Track" in Forza to race around Nьrburgring :D .
  18. I was just about to suggest that too. Listen to Ironhand and play the track through the Mission editor instead of the ingame player.
  19. Great collection of pics, some i've seen before and some I haven't... thanks for sharing.
  20. Just to make it clear: The FC CD only has the CD checker of SF that requires you to place the CD in the drive once a week and that's it. Soo you can install it on more than one PC in your house. I used to have it installed on two PC's for the purpose of checking bugs seeing as my other system was ATi based and my Gaming PC has an Nvidia GC. With the CD version there's are no limits or anything like that when installing so you don't have to worry about installing new hardware or reinstalling windows. IMO you'd have to be crazy or unable to buy the FC CD to even consider purchasing the downloaded version with all of its restrictions.
  21. LMAO .. The soldiers on the armored vehicle looked a lot like the AI you see in many FPS's ;)
  22. Mirage is with out a doubt one of the easiest, you just need to BnZ the 2000 and its all over in a few seconds. In BVR the most difficult, when flying Russian fighters, IMO are the F14, if you're not using Jamming pods. The first 54 can be pretty tricky because the Tomcats radar is so powerful it clogs up your RWS making it difficult to predict the proximity of the missile. With jamming pods its pretty easy because the first Phoenix will go ballistic with out much effort. The F18 is really tricky and suffers from the invisible "bug", no pun intended ;) so you can only see it when you're very close. All in all I would say the F15, it's pretty good at all ranges and you never feel that theres a distance at which you can relax because you've passed outside or inside its optimum killing range. For the Eagle it's the Mig29S. With Arh R77's and the Mig itself also suffering from the invisible bug it has the greatest pain in the ass factor of any Russian fighter.
  23. I have to agree but M$FS has been, since FS98, just holster for third party addons whether free or payware. I do think allot of the addons do feel extremely realistic as long as you don't start pulling hard G's or anything but for general aviation its a great sim especially for helicopters. Although for fixed wing planes it can be a little irritating if you dont know how to make adjustments to the flight model, for example the pitch problem for default aircraft can be adjusted quite easily by reducing the moments of inertia for pitch found in the general tunning section of the aircraft.cfg file for the particular aircraft you want to adjust. But in all honesty the default aircraft are totally crap.. ;)
  24. :D One thing I've always wanted to suggest is for ED to make it possible for Helicopters to land on the parking areas near take off ramp instead of the landing area. Once a helicopter lands on the Kuz it effectively shuts down the carrier for naval ops, you can take off but you would never land with a Chopper blocking the end of the runway, for obvious reasons. However if they landed near the take off ramp then you could still at least land and have something cool to look at while you're catching the wire.:pilotfly:
