controlling the BS with a hotas or collective & cyclic
Cosmonaut replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
WOW !! Is there three projection screens in front of you? -
If there’s no ECM jamming in front of you then TWS mode will allow you to view all the of the aircraft that are with in the scan zone in the HDD, similar to a data link. However once you lock a target you switch back automatically to single track mode but the initial tracking is useful in determining the enemy’s strength and position so you can use the best tactic.

How many people here fly the Su25t?
Cosmonaut replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
When landing always remember that the throttle controls your rate of decent and pitch controls your speed.. Once you master the proper technique you’ll be able to land any aircraft without any problems. -
LMAO @ the video .. “Well captain we lost the pilot but the aircraft landed safely” man those Russians are clever .. “ they should call it the “homing pigeon auto pilot”. :D

Russian Carrier Ops Question
Cosmonaut replied to Colt40Five's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I can see the drop but I’ve seen 747s hit the runway harder without causing any damage, surly an Aircraft designed for carrier opps would be able take that slightly heavy landing.. Unless the Yak-41 carries its fuel in the tires ;) then I cant see why it exploded so dramatically. Just curious but is it the Yak-41 that had the automatic ejection seat? -
I like the cougar but the buttons just look a bit cheap imo, especially on the throttle where you can see the copper underneath the plastic housing.. not very well fitted at all. I guess it comes down to preference when talking about the Cougar and the Ch gear, personally I don’t mind the plastic as long as it’s built solidly although it would be great if it was made of steel like the cougar. However if I bought a cougar then had to spend another cougar joystick’s worth of money on parts just to get it to work as it should, then I’d be pretty pissed off. You are right about the CH throttle though but I think it fits with the Russian style of aircraft a little better seeing as the throttle slides rather than pivots.

Russian Carrier Ops Question
Cosmonaut replied to Colt40Five's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Looked like a pretty good landing. Maybe after they investigated the crash they discovered a fatal flaw that would have been to costly to fix so they just cancelled the project.. -
Exactly how I feel about the design blocking my purchase. To a flighsimmer esthetics is important and the lack of options in buying a hotas is frustrating enough with out Saitek making, what is seemingly a good design, look like a toy. The X52 pro, in the pics on this thread, does look like they are moving back on track so hopefully there will be a real “medium spend” option for simmers. I think the next time I buy a joystick its gonna have to be the CH gear. It costs a lot more but they never break down so in the long run it will be more than worth it.. also the fact that it looks and feels very professional.

How to extract a mission from a campaign?
Cosmonaut replied to Tomahawk674's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Alternatively you could open the campaign in the mission editor and press “ctrl + shift + d” and type the password “eagle”. If that password doesn’t work then press “ctrl + shift + c” and type in your own pass word e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4. Now press “ctrl + shift + d” and type in your pass word e.g. “1234”. This will open up all the missions in the campaign allowing you play anyone you want. -
Here’s something pretty irritating; the X36. http://www.maximum3d.com/images/saitek/x363.jpg http://www.maximum3d.com/previewpics/x36.jpg As you can see they started out so well with a professional looking Hotas and then they just went down hill. Why some “brainiac” at Saitek decided to move away from this design and dive straight into a more toy like construction is just a total mystery to me.

How many people here fly the Su25t?
Cosmonaut replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I fly it all the time and I’ve never had a problem with the way it handles .. most likely because I fly airliners occasionally in FS9 and the Su25T handles a lot like a 737 or A320. When taking off I set take off flaps and at the same time I trim the aircraft a little before I start adding the power, the same way you would for certain airliners. This will help to get your nose up and aid in a smooth rotation. I start rotating at about 270/280 and by 290/300 I’m airborne. Tip; to ovoid the su25t becoming even more difficult to fly I always try to use my weapons in pairs. -
Why are they using buttons from the original “Star Trek”? IMO Saitek always makes poor decisions when it comes to choosing switches and buttons for their joysticks. This leaves their hotas looking “toy” like at best and doesn’t look like something that was designed for the more serious gamer. I mean why put 1980’s style video recorder buttons on the X52? .. it just looks so out of place.

Couple of Quick Questions from a new player
Cosmonaut replied to Banquo's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Banquo, welcome to the community :) Once you’ve got the basics down you might want to check out this sight; http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/index.html -
USN T-45 Using The Sight Fixed Grid.
Cosmonaut replied to Cosmonaut's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I’ve seen quite a few of them .. but 89 is one of favorites because of the cloud top flying, really gives you a sense of speed. Another good one is 95, the first few minutes give you an insight into how they grade landings and also in cockpit footage of an F14 simulated kill against a Mig29; check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAH_nAE4_bc -
USN T-45 Using The Sight Fixed Grid.
Cosmonaut replied to Cosmonaut's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yeah .. I laughed when the guys note pad went flying off the top of the cockpit.. :) If you like that then check this out, some awesome Tomcat action; really good example of the term “paid to play”. Fighter Fling - 1989 -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni7uBFf-7JU&mode=related&search= I thought the T-45 was only used for basic flight skills training like carrier landing, take offs etc but here you can see naval pilots dropping dumb bombs using the SFG. A few more vids: Initial Carrier Qualification: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmRvtidF-b8&mode=related&search= F18 - Wild Carrier Landing: it was looking so good until.. Russian Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov: nice in-cockpit footage of a carrier landing.

It looks like most will work although some may have a few hiccups.

Managed to squeeze in a few addons .. not bad even though some gauges aren’t working.

I never knew there were jet water bombers that could scoop water up like that ..WOW

Now that you mention it I think I remember reading something about FO’s future plans regarding Naval (F18 ) and Russian aircraft… I think your right I’ll check out the FO boards for info..

Help with straffing using A-10 cannons
Cosmonaut replied to Zoltar's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The thing to remember when attacking ground targets is to get lined up correctly so you have enough time to get set for a good run in. A lot of times you have the urge to pull hard around way to soon and end up very close to the target making you rush around the cockpit trying to get the pipper lined up.. This kind of attack can look like you’re performing an Air display for the convoy you’re shooting at ;). A real A10 pilot will have enough time to get a good burst off then break before he fly’s over the target he was shooting, so he doesn’t risk flying into his own bullets. Try to take more time in lining up for a good burst by flying far enough away from convoy so you give yourself time to line up for the shot and dive for cover before your next run in. -
Fanboys??... That’s complete BS I think you’ll be hard pressed to find a flightsim community that’s more self critical and understanding of the limitations of lockon than the members on these boards. The only ones living in denial are those looking for the perfect flightsim and don’t want to understand why things are the way they are. Lockon is pretty much unfinished, from what it was intended to be and the reason for this, with out going into to much detail, is that UBI acquired SSI and then forced an early release of lockon. Some of the comments here are comparing lockon to a sim that isn’t even out yet and you call members here fanboys, that’s pretty funny .. I mean we all want the FO team to deliver and I believe in time they will, I just hope FO “fanboys” don’t take flightsiming too seriously and create a divide between them and every other simmer like a few members of the F4 community have done. pS. Anyone know if FO are going to have any Russian flyables?

Nice video.. thx !! Did you notice the tell tail signs that highlight the problems of high aoa and high G turns in M$FS? About 1.45 seconds in at the top of the loop you can see the yawing motion that happens when pulling high G maneuvers in FS9 .. although the overall FM didn’t look too bad really, if you could engage targets I’d buy it. :)

Thanks for the info Buckshot. I think the reason we would call it an "Annual fee" or "yearly subscription", which is obviously inaccurate, is that most flightsimmers would want to have compatible versions for online play and third party missions so we would more than likely purchase each new addon on release. However your last paragraph is the most informative I’m glad I could skip an addon or two and then get back to a compatible version just by purchasing the latest release.
-
The thing is that FO hasn’t been released yet so all you can compare is what we have and the hype of what we might get, which is an impossible comparison. When FO is released we will obviously get a more accurate picture but a lot of what folks are talking about is the training and the entire world being modeled etc. All of that is already available in FS9 to a very high level and unless you’re into procedural flying then it can be quite boring. Now I’m not complaining, being an avid user of FS9 one of the things I’m looking forward to in FO is the flying by the numbers but IMO what really sets F4 apart from other sims isn’t the switchology or the avionics but it’s more the being part of entire combat environment and that is what I will be looking forward to when I buy FO.
