  1. Not a single button works in your profiles? I made the mistake of assigning buttons to my throttle instead of my joystick and was about to kick a kitten till I realized I was in the wrong column. Fixed that oversight and all has been smooth sailing ever since. For your logitec profile to work, you must point it at the correct location of the .exe file for the sim. I also had that small issue when I updated to 1.02.
  2. I never claimed to be an expert pilot. :joystick::pilotfly::helpsmilie: I can do things that no others can though. They are usually just not very good things.
  3. What are the tick marks in an arc formation?
  4. I have not had a tanker make it back to base. I have a short fuse I guess.

    a-10c vs Ka-50

I prefer the BS. Main reason is its a helo. A10 is another plane game. An absolutely brilliant and gorgeous one, but still just another plane game. Name another study sim Helo game on the market to play. Hell name any other helo game on the market. I think I have one on my iPhone. Not many switches to flip though and it only has a gun that shoots what looks like tiny pebbles. I find much more sense of accomplishment flying the BS. I do love flying the A10 and its one of my favorite A/C, but it does seem too easy sometimes. Start up is done with like 4 switches. I can not count how many are needed for the BS. (Don't have enough fingers)
  6. 2600k at stock speeds destroys everything except the 980x. From AMD it takes an 1100t at 4ghz to come close to it in most tests, some it is still way behind. I am waiting for Bulldozer Zardinia or WTF ever the codename is for the octo core AMDs. They should be out next month I thought. I was about to pull the trigger on 1100t until I saw how SB demolishes it. At 4.5ghz the 2600k makes anything from AMD look like a P4. Lets hope Bulldozer is not just a name and does some intel demolishing to keep the field close. From what I have seen 2600k is about the same price as 1100t. If AMD drops prices to below $200 I may be interested again. If not, I will have to keep a single intel PC in my house. 4 more days till launch in USA.
  7. Is it your FARP or enemy?
  8. First video is wrong. His vortex did not end in a fireball. I often get myself into these vortex states while trying to hover and use the shkval. I have terrible tunnel vision because I do not have TIR. I find my self watching a close up of my missile tracking to the tank and not heads up looking for enemies. Sometimes my hover does not hold altitude and I usually realize this when a ridge suddenly appears in my shkval screen when I thought I was a good 300m above the ground. Most times I have the ability to throttle up and pitch forward, some times I lawn dart.
  9. Entertaining. Enjoyed watching it. I have not played much since beta 2, but mav seems to be much easier to employ now. I would have definitely used bombs on static objects and saved mavs for moving targets. For the final convoy though, you could have come from behind at altitude like when you dropped bombs on the bridge. High enough to be out of their attack range and the GBUs should track and land on the AAA. Do you have TIR? Also what settings were you on and what PC specs?
  10. BS is much harder than A10. Its a helo which are inherently harder to pilot than planes, and it has a nasty habit of taking its rotors off and going home when it gets mad at you. Just getting started is like rocket science compared to the A10 being like middle school science. After 2 start ups in the A10, I had it down easy. I still have a hard time remembering all the correct switch positions in BS. usually forget the switch on the back right wall to allow the flight dampers. Not sure why the switch is way back there.
  11. I was just expanding on your in depth response a bit more. :) Just in case he was still a bit confused.
  12. He probably knew an ace BS pilot was about to shoot him down and prepared for a crash landing. Doesnt look like he made it. :)
  13. Thats a shallow hammerhead maneuver. Same concept, pitch up to slow forward progress, when almost out of forward momentum upward, rudder left and swing nose down and extend away. That Heli was probably barely going 60kmh at the start of the climb and covered way way more than 0' of lateral distance and it was anything but instant. All helis can do this maneuver. All heli can spin in place, does a typical heli with tail rotor spin faster in one direction since the tail rotor does not need to overcome the main rotors rotational force?
  14. Congrats. Who is the woman over your right shoulder in the 3rd pic? She looks really happy to be there. Sorry, I always look for photobombs in online photos.
  15. Put OS and games on your 60gb. Should be plenty big enough if you install other programs to mechanical drives. By the time you fill it up bigger ones will be cheaper.
  16. If you act fast you can pick up a 5870 for the same price as a 460 GTX. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1572980
  17. His gear is down, did you shoot him down on landing approach? :music_whistling: Apache has radar. Ka50 and Hind do not. Huge advantage for the Apache. The longbow has a much nicer sensor suite for protection and detection. Noise is not an issue in a2a encounters. You will not hear a hind coming unless he is flying over top of you. All the armor does for a chopper is keep it from falling out of the sky immediately. You will not be very combat effective after the enemies first salvo. You will be lucky if he loses you and you can sneak out of the combat area. I tend to lock my cannon on the boresite and maneuver for a firing solution in the typical dogfight manner. I do not have track IR though so flying while trying to mouse look the HMS sight around does not work so well.
  18. You will be fine with your CPU for now. Ram helps with texture loading I believe. The more textures that can be in ram the less stuttering you get. but really at $30 you are not throwing away that much when you do upgrade. I have been wanting to upgrade my CPU for 1.5 years now and I just cant justify it since I do not really need more cores for anything I do. Sure, I could get an 8400 and clock it to 4ghz and get a little better performance, but I would be buying a 2 year old CPU for a few FPS and a lot of money. A 970 from AMD is only about $25 more and is current and has 4 cores and should do 4ghz as well. But that requires switching to AMD which I want to do, but then I have to choose between staying DDR2 and using my too slow to fully utilize the AM3 platform ram, or stepping to DDR3. Ram has come back down in price, so its not that bad again, but still need $100 of ram and a $150 mobo. I have decided to just stick with what I have and upgrade the rest of my cockpit. TIR and hopefully another Touch this year. That would give me 3 monitors 2 as touch. If you want to take load off the CPU, crank all the graphics all the way up and your GPU will be plenty stressed. I am not sure how eyefinity works. Not sure if you need the active display port adapter to be able to run 3 monitors in windows. I think if you want more than 2 monitors you need to have the adapter though. So, the cheap way to do it would just be to switch one monitor plug when you go from TV to gaming. If you want all 3 connected all the time, I think you need the DP adapter which is like $80. OR, you keep your 3850 and plug in a monitor to that. Ditch the lappy. I have also debated getting one for the house. I have a HTPC and my Gaming PC but my HTPC is mainly used for watching movies or HULU and it sucks to try and surf the web from the couch since I can not see what I am typing in the address bar. I wish there was an app that would zoom to that bar when you click on it like smartphones do. I am waiting for more tablets to hit the market so I can get a cheap one for the purpose of couch surfing.
  19. No not just used to it. There is no environment in the menus. A A/C image in the background with text menus over laid. Click a menu and it brings up another A/C image background with text menus on top. Falcon 3.0 was my first Sim and first computer game. The Mechwarrior series followed and was my favorite games by far. You had the environment. You could see your mech and it changed when you put different weapons on. A10 just has a list of weapons and you better know what they are from the manual that you have to print out yourself or read on screen. No flipping from bookmarked page to bookmarked page in your dictionaryesque manual, checking weapons and enemy abilities. There is no real feel of a story to me. Not sure what you consider MW but it had a fictional story that you played through and it actually felt like it mattered how you completed the mission. Not sure how to get that feel and environment into a flight sim. Ace combat does a great story but the flying is obviously not true to life physics and weapons.
  20. If your track IR is stable when you zoom, it will be good. I used mouse look in a10 with my right hand and touched buttons with my left. I am right handed so this was not completely natural but it worked pretty well. Only problem was if I nudged the mouse I would not flip the switch or would press a different button. I am pretty sure you can map a button to pause TIR though. That touch frame looks pretty similar to what is probably built into the screens on touch monitors. My LD220z samsung is glossy just like that device. You can get a 20" touchscreen for about the same price though. At least in the states.
  21. Another person has the same monitor and a 4870 vs your 5870 with no issues. I would say its a driver issue. Try an older driver. I had issues on my 4890 with the 10.12 drivers. While messing with HELIOS I would get blacked out areas and other tearing. Put it back to 10.02 (yeah, I know I do not update often) and everything works great again.
  22. There is a real difference between benchmark performance and real world experience in the computer world. You see test sites all talking about how an intel system blows away AMD. Then when you really start to look at numbers you may realize how close it actually is. Sure, it may take an extra minute at most to encode a full DVD. Umm, ok. So it takes 1:35 instead of 1:34 or something. Or, look at FPS. Sure they all claim that a 570 destroys a 5870. Difference may be 5-10fps. If you are in the danger area of like 30fps, that is important, but you will be in the 50-60 range with a 5870 so a $200 card is much better than a $350 card that barely edges out the much cheaper one. I have a 4890 and a very similar CPU setup as you. I am on W7 though. I have not checked my CPU stresses and GPU stresses in game to see how much of a bottleneck my CPU is on my GPU or if its the other way around. I would guess the GPU is my FPS bottleneck more than my cpu though. Since DCS does not really use multiple cores that well, clock speed is more important than cores still. I can almost assure you that you will need a better GPU to power 2 screens if you dont want to game on the lowest graphics settings. The GPU is your bottleneck right now and will be more so when you get a second monitor. If you are looking to upgrade, you really need to jump on that 5870. I have to keep talking myself out of buying it right now. Ram performance will be un noticeable. Most of that performance hit is from trying to get absolute maximum over clock numbers. You should see no problems with 4 sticks. Both sets will run in dual channel. You will see a slight increase in performance from 2gb to 4gb. Biggest problem is that you can only use another .5gb when you upgrade to a 1gb GPU. 32 bit OS can only have 3.5gb of TOTAL memory in system including the GPU memory. You need to step up to w7 64bit and leave the 90's era of 32bit OSes. :) I just sat on the runway in the battle command mission. Straight ahead I was at 22FPS, left looking back enough so that the MFD was not in POV I was at 31. Right same deal so MFD was out of POV I was at 20. Back 20. Straight up 60. This was without zooming at all. Settings are Low preset. No blur. 1360x768 res. 1024 cockpit displays. 8x MSAA. full screen. HDR. TSAA. 500m clutter. Could not do your 1080p resolution because my main monitor is a 16:10 22". Anyway, try yours and see what you get. Frnt 22FPS RT 20FPS Lft 31FPS Back 20FPS UP 60FPS
  23. All game engines do not perform the same. One engine may have better graphics optimization or just lower quality graphics than DCS. What is this window snipping tool? I know mac has a drag window selection for print screen, did not know windows did.
  24. Too bad you live in the UK. Newegg has a great great deal on a 5870. I am trying to justify the purchase myself. I do not think they will be that cheap for another 6 months. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1572980 i5 2500k is showing to be an outstanding overclocker. No idea how much it will cost though. Also, with AMD 970 you could keep your current ram and get an older Am2+ chipset (cheapest possible that supports a 125w CPU) and then upgrade to DDR3 and AM3 at a later date. Not possible with any current intel offerings. Buying now I would go with AMD 970, but that is personal preference. Has anyone done any benchmarking of AMD vs Intel in the DCS series? Would be interested to see which give more FPS at set frequencies. If intel is only a tiny bit of an advantage over AMD, it would save money by going with AMD over intel.
  25. Move fast and you can pick up a 5870 from NE for $199. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1572980 Smoking deal. I bet they are not that low with no rebate for at least another 6 months. Why are you spending $85 on 2gb of ram also? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231144
