  1. Yeah, I agree adobe programs place tools on left and right so a wider format will be better. As long as those Dell are height adjustable having a shorter monitor will help with POV. But I would hope the 30" has height adjustment as well. Then you can neglect the top few hundred pixels. :) Desk space can not be much different between a 27" 16:9 and 30" 16:10 but I understand that the cost savings for the loss of 160 pixels in vertical is very considerable.
  2. Yeah, just slew till target box is off your target and it will not be locked. The traveling target box annoys me. I need to learn to turn off the moving target button when the target is obscurred. That seems to be the times it drifts on me.
  3. Reason that works in ArmA 2 is that the community is huge. I rarely see 20 people on a server in DCS world. ArmA is modeled after the real military and those who play it are aware of that fact. A flight sim is a flight sim. People play it to fly. If the game had to have all the engines needed to have realistic controls and physics for every piece of machinery it would bring even CLAY supercomputers to their knees. That may be why they have chosen to make individual modules. So the FM of the A10 does not need to have anything to do with the FM of the BS. Real reason I see LAN being more successful is that my RIO could be my beer bitch while I am flying to our first WP. He can also hold my little black book of all the pilot chasing groupie girls I want to call when we get back to base. :D
  4. Question was in general. I understand 16:9 for TVs but never really did for computer monitors. Especially ultra high resolution ones. The purpose of getting a 30" monitor is for the vast screen space it gives you. Then they cut that down to 16:9 even though its above native 16:9 1080p TV feed. Is photography done in 16:9 a lot now? Even if it is, a 16:10 would give more screen real estate for menus and windows stuff. Would think a game would be better with as much vertical as possible as well. Though any loss in amount of pixels helps relieve the strain on GPUs.
  5. Do not understand why this 16:9 resolution came to the huge 30" market for monitors. TV HD is 1080p, not just 16:9. Movies have all gone beyond 16:9 now and I think even beyond 2.35:1 for some movies. Every new movie I watch still looks letterboxed on my HD TV. But computer monitors are better when they have maximum screen pixels. What made you want 16:9 instead of 16:10 when the 2560x1440 resolution is not native for HD content. Does the monitor upsample movies to the bigger resolution, or just stretch the 1080p feed?
  6. As long as it gets you in the virtual air. With 2 monitors you will be in lots of trouble with a 512mb 3850. You will need a GPU upgrade I am betting.
  7. Doubt you want to pay for a large touch main screen. Would be nice if you got it though. http://www.oneworldtouch.com/category2.html?cid=2&gclid=CPD2kOTvm6YCFQS7Kgod7noKpA I am in the opposite boat as you. I have a 22" touch monitor that I was using for my main screen. Then HELIOS beta was released and I can now use my normal 22" for main and the touch for the helios interface. I do not have TIR so I had the problem that I could touch my switches in A10 or BS, but I had to use some other keys to look around or use the mouse. IN BS you can mouse look and touch at the same time, so it made no sense to touch the buttons. HELIOS is a game changer like TIR is. Next for me is TIR and a bigger 32" 1080p main screen.
  8. Wait, the Ka50 can carry those dual yellow missile things that the Hind carries? Why dont we get that in DCS? Why are the tires on Hinds always so flat?
  9. I did not know it was possible to uncrossfire a 5970. They do not work like normal cards. If you CF two 5870 you can only use the ports on one card. You can use all the ports on a 5970 up to 6 I think is the most. Not sure about HELIOS, but DCS works with multi touch. I can touch and hold for a right click option. I did not even think XP had touch. Its not the preferred OS for touch at least. I was never too fond of sticking a frame to my monitor. Dont remember where I found that refurb. Couple months ago started looking into options for HELIOS and boom, google turned up a cheap touch. Wasnt a newegg or anything like that.
  10. Working on my left side panels now. Easy part done. Now to learn how to make these switches move when they are moved ingame. Up to now, I have just pieced together other peoples profiles and added my own Panel hide buttons. This should be interesting.
  11. Hidden panels. I am still finishing up my hidden panel profile for HELIOS. I have the entire front panel on my 22" Touch and by pressing 1 of 3 buttons I can get access to the entire right panel of the cockpit and now working on the left side. If you get a touch, you do not need to spend the money on MFD FRAMES. Important, there will be no display coming with your MFDs. So if you run helios on a touch, you have the MFDs exported and the touch ability that HELIOS offers. Look around for Refurbs. I picked up a 22" Samsung ld220z for $149 and the only thing that looks refurb is the bezel.
  12. We hope that missions made in BS and WH will be flyable in both. They should be. Think of LOMAC as a sim made by a different company and as such do not expect any interchangeability.
  13. Wow, that's an old board. If you got a local PC shop that sells used boards, you may be able to pick up a better 775 board for dirt cheap. AMD 970 $185 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103894 MSI 790x $85 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130265 By my google currency conversion that is under your budget. That should rock your socks off. Can use your existing ram and still have one of the most powerful CPUs on market.
  14. Most of the reviews I see say the 5870 edges the 470. 470 has a couple games its better at, but most go to the ATI. 5870 can be had for just over $200 now as well.
  15. You can not use your Ram on that 770AMD board. Its a AM3 and can not use DDR2 ram. Not sure why you can not OC your mobo past 2.6ghz. That seems unbelievable. What mobo do you have? Make sure your ram is not going OC when you clock your CPU. That could hold you back. You need to get some more speed out of your CPU and you will be much better off. For reference, my allendale core (very similar to your Conroe) started at 1.8ghz and has been running for 4 years at 3.4ghz. If you have bad cooling you may be hitting a wall from that as well.
  16. I could see 2 seaters being fun in a LAN environment. I do not find much fun in sitting in front of my computer being flown by someone else while I flip some switches and watch radar bleeps, beeps, and sweeps. << (Spaceballs reference) At a lan the two could be seated next to each other and have more direct contact like in real life. Would possibly make it fun enough for me, but still doubtfull.
  17. Ehh, not going back to change all those switches. After I was half way done, I thought about it and decided to just stay the course. :) Would only matter if I was using real switches probably, but since its all virtual in my cockpit, its just a coding switchup.
  18. Yeah, and Helios does not change when you turn your head to look out the side of the cockpit, just like real pilots can turn their head to look out the side, but glance back with their eyes without changing their head point of view.
  19. Yay, I feel so accomplished. I set the open action to set physical state of other buttons to true. Not sure why not false, but hey it works. So each button has 2 physical state actions for the other two buttons. I may have it backwards but I am using open states as on, and closed state as off.
  20. Yeah, I have a hide and unhide binding on the CDU switch. But I want it to hide if I unhide my other panel since CDU is the top layer, if I do not hide it, no other panels will be seen when unhidden. I can not find an action to change a different button's state when the next button is pressed. So, if CDU button is on, and I turn on the next button, I want the CDU button to go off which would hide the CDU panel. Can not figure a way to do that.
  21. Nope, best performance for MFDs is 1024. You get a few FPS by not selecting every frame, but not much. Bucic has a graph showing his testing results someplace. Will see if I can find it.
  22. Got the panels hiding and unhiding with their correct switches. What I now want to do is to automatically hide a panel when another panel is unhidden. if that makes sense. I will post my profile on the SCS forum if you want to take a look. I need to get a left panel started now. I am pretty happy with my right sides and front panel.
  23. I dislike the miniture effect. I have dabbled with the photomode a bit. I do not like that there is no preview though. Its almost a roll of the dice type deal. F stop does not show up as you adjust it, and same with shutter speed. No idea if just the wheels will be blurry or the whole car. appears they got the water reflections a bit more true to life than DCS though.
  24. As usual starting to get pissed off at HELIOS now. :wallbash: Was going great for a while. Now trying to get panels to hide is frustrating me. At first I did it great. Now trying to get panels to hide when another panel is switched to unhide is not working. I have 3 right panels and the main panel. I have 3 buttons for the hide function of the right panels . But now I have one of them not working. Now I can not figure out what went wrong. What kind of support will there be for the final release? If we were all rich enough to have the same setup as you guys there would be no issues, but it seems trying to get the awesome software to work in our own cheaper setups may need some trouble shooting. :helpsmilie:Loving most of the software so far. UI needs some work still, but its still a beta so :music_whistling:
  25. Is pilot in front or back of Havok? I thought the pilot was in the back of the apache and assumed same for Havok. Looks like POV is off if so.
