  1. Just wait one week - then you have to insert the CD again. Of course you can always reinstall Lockon/FC/1.12a ;)
  2. Well, patch 1.12a came with new 'protect.exe' and 'protect.dll', both dated 17. Feb 2006. If ED thought it was needed to use other, newer or different Starforce thingies - then it's up to them to fix this. Please remember, 1.12 is running ok for all who have this problem now. ED took care of the RWR bug - wth has that to do with Starforce??? I know members of ED are reading this forum and i'll wait for 169th_Fudd who has a call open with SF before I start to mail ED/SF. Albeit the patch is 6 days old still no "we're working on it" message from the developers.

  4. Tried that, no joy: Starforce hangs at 30% on the second start. When i close the program Windows tells "program does not reply" and opening the disc tray gives: File or function: unsigned int __thiscall PcodeInterface::Initialize (void) Line 214 Message: Unhandled exception in feedback
  5. The game doesn't start at all and if i remove the disc a window pops up with an error message about a "callback problem". The SF program (protect.exe i'll guess) hangs, because if i want to end it Windows tells me that the program is not responding.
  6. Quick update. I've reinstalled XP and FC 1.12a worked exactly once. At the second program start, the progress bar on the Starforce screen stopped again, leaving the disk spinning. Just great.
  7. Well, patch 1.12a just broke my installation, 1.12 was running good. So if i don't get this up and running, i will not buy any other from ED, that's for sure.
  8. Yep, tried that, no joy. Same effect. The progress bar in the Starforce window stops at 30% and then the programs hangs.

Here we go: - uninstall Lockon/FC - remove Lockon folder - apply Starforce uninstall utility - install Lockon - install FC - apply LO_Flaming_Cliffs_Patch_1.12a_EngCD.exe - game start hangs (clicker-clacker on CD) :icon_evil - use rollback 'function' to go back to 1.1 - apply LO_Flaming_Cliffs_Patch_1.12_EngCD.exe - game starts without problem (like it did the last 2 years) Any idea? Oh yes, i've downloaded the 1.12a patch twice, from JaBoG and lockon.ru, but same effect.
  10. Funny that planes start to warp, jiggle and jump the moment the first missile is fired at them. Well, I would say "used it more", not "noticed" ;)

  14. I'm really curious which formula will finally determine any ranking. Looking at the actual scoring one could say that a TK should weigh less for a pilot with - e.g. - a 5:3 KD (a newbie) than a 150:20 (experienced, veteran pilot). Or why not setting pilot's stats to zero with each TK? Or apply the LomacLeague ranking system and consider who shot down whom (points depending on position in the list).   15. This makes editing the missions cumbersome. I'll recommend to leave the extension as 'mis' (for the Lockon editor) and open 'mis' files in the LMR file selection box. LMR adds '_random' to the filenames of randomized mission, so xy.mis will become xy_random.mis and you don't lose the original mission.
  16. Confusion! Which board do you have exactly: K8V-X SE or K8V SE (deluxe)? The first one has the raid controller in the south bridge and the second has an additional second raid chip (promise). If you have the second board type you can connect 2 SATA disks to the promise controller and 2 ATA disks to the promise controller. Mirroring the SATA stripe "on" the ATA stripe should be possible. This is from the manual of the "deluxe" version: South Bridge -2 x ATA133 -2 x SATA, RAID0, RAID1 Promise R20378 RAID controller -1xUltraDMA133 supports two hard drives -2xSATA -RAID0, RAID1, RAID 0+1 As you can see, the promise chip supports "1xUltraDMA133" additional to the 2 Sata disks. Ok, before you ask: mirroring or striping "accross" the raid controllers is NOT possible. If you can live w/o stripe, you canuse the other raid controller from the south bridge for another SATA mirror.
  17. Yep, but it has one big advantage: it exists and one can fly and play it today. IIRC Lomac will come to an end with 1.2, 1.3 or whatever they'll name it. What i see far from realistic are the ideas for mission builder and DC for Lomac. But one can always dream, of course.

  19. Because developers re-invent the wheel from time to time. Falcon was designed with a "virtual universe" in mind and the pilots flying the planes are only a small part in this universe. You can let the campaign running without flying one mission or hop in the pit and "replace" the AI pilots, even if the flight is 2 minutes from target. Lomac (as a sequel to Flanker) follows the concept of single missions: jump in the pit, fly mission, land, back to UI screen. No idea of replacing AI pilots, heck, even the MP missions must be developed as such - and the campaigns are not MP capable. IIRC SwingKid wrote that his campaign engine is SP only because Lomac does not export results from MP missions. Eh, before you start shooting at me about the bubble system in Falcon and boring campaigns - i'm talking about concepts, not implementations, ok? Btw, I've wondered why there is no multi-core CPU support in Lomac, if it is so CPU hungry.
  20. I have an Asus A8V mobo and the manual tells me the promise chip supports raid 0+1 (the second chip via vt8237 supports raid 0 or 1 only). So first you'll have to define a raid 0 within the bios, then install Windows (need the driver disk during that process) and after windows install define a raid 1. The raid is done "in hardware" and is "invisible" to windows. The promise PDC20378 supports 1 UltraDMA 133 connector and 2 Sata connectors.

  22. Well, i'm not on crack and if you have contrast problems please re-read you monitor manual. Falcon related to Flanker? Nah, i never claimed you said that. Lomac is the sequel to Flanker (1 and 2) and i'm missing some progress in AI and gameplay - what is of course difficult to obtain. If you read some of GGTharos postings the 9m missile has a PK of 80%, not to speak of the 120. So i'll guess it's pretty good modelled.
  23. If you think of Lomac as the sequel to Flanker (version 1.0 is from 1996 or so) - how tricky and evil should the AI be today and how substantiated the dynamic campaign?

If someone is looking for a formalized way to the flights, i'll recommend the manuals for the F-16: Volume 3 - Pilot Operational Procedures Volume 5 - F-16 Combat Aircraft Fundamentals Although these volumes were written for the F-16 there is a lot of useful information about procedures, formations, tactics etc., approx 380 pages. I'm flying for so long with my squadmates that the take off/return procedures need almost no comms, we fly several tactical manneuvers which are announced by the flight lead and missile shots are announced by standard codes. Most of the comms is about announcing and sorting bandits, situational awareness and tactics (adapting to changing situations during fight and flight). The larger your squadron the more difficult it is to establish fixed procedures - we are not the Air Force: too many cowboys - too few sheriffs.
  25. IIRC the client-player concept is coded deeply in the sim and could not be changed. Flanker has this concept as well - i have not the best thoughts for the guy who thought that out at a time where online play was pretty exotic.
