Thrustmaster Cougar questions
Conuk replied to ScEBlack1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
stays put.... very heavy stick. software is great - can be easy to use.... also very flexible if you need it to be... seems daunting at first then pretty easy. my stick was good in standard form.... but bought mods anyways... now it feels like an X52 - but more accurate and metal everything! very happy - but has cost a lot. if i was just gonna get a cougar now Id maybe wait to see what hog is like.... if could spend more on mods maybe cougar+mods now. -
simhq forums have a classified section.

right finally got everything sorted... SSD in - check ! Sapphire 5870 (900 1300) Vapor X gonna rebench !

problems installing Cougar on Windows 7? READ!
Conuk replied to Conuk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
oops. if a mod could move this to GAME CONTROLLERS. -
the SSD`s are indeed sweet and will complete your quick setup. I went for the intel 80 gb SSD - with the purpose of maybe getting another soon.... still kept the raptors for other stuff. OS is well snappy - and loading times for DCS are very very good. Again maybe the 5870 is overkill but you have headroom for future games ?
-
precisely that! sat here with a screen flashing like a xmas tree... so DCS wont even work ! just ordered a Sapphire 5870 Vapor X - comes tomorrow - cant wait for RMA times !
-
ok 80 gb intel SSD is here ! sadly my 5870 is still RMA :( I bought a 9800gt till my ati comes back .... but that is faulty!....... AND my NXT2 is here today .... this has been a shakey build so far!
-
http://www.cougar.flyfoxy.com/ try here for backup cougar world ;)
-
you think its good now..... thats what I thought... then I bought Cubbys hall sensors.... and my NXT2 came today.... the hall sensors are well worth the money ... I got my cougar for £100 or so second hand... just the throttle pot had gone. My 5870 is still RMA so no trying out my shiny new Intel SSD either sob..... I have some CH pedals for £50 and postage if you wanna complete your setup ? (Im in UK)
-
My 5870 is randomly crashing..... Card problem that was RMA'ed today. While running the replays in DCS I noticed corrupt textures in the cockpit. The surrounds around the dials were missing as we'll as the collective... Some of that was missing... And seemed to stutter slightly. Am hoping this is the fault of the card... Anybody have problems. With catalyst drivers or the ati cards? Looking forward to getting it back... When my intel SSD comes tomorrow new rig is complete... Oh and NXT mod for my cougar on the way as we'll. Could be good times!
-
finally ordered my SSD to complete the rig Intel X25-M * SSDSA2MH080G1, 80GB, SATA/300 unfortunately I have to RMA the graphics card tomorrow....... sob ;)
-
For me.... Pedals! Then trackir... Actually prefer the g25 pedals as well (racing pedals) to the CH ones I got... Don't even use them. You can get away with using a hat switch for looking round to start with... But you'll probably die in the air much quicker! So its best to save up forr both tho ;) I didn't mind my trackir 3 .. I now have 5... For me was a bit of a waste... Depends if you need the extra resolution... I think if you never use a 5 you would be happy with a 4 and save money towards pedals... Anyways buy mine!

yeah ordered the kit from Cubby for stock gimbals... then decided to go all out for the NXT (you guys who said it was great owe me cash if it aint ;) !) Told him - he said the sensors from cubby work with the NXT - just have to strip them off. Am back using the G25 pedals... the harder pressure works great for me. And also got a screw and pedal extender set for the G25s from the net ... so I can adjust the spacing on them and the angle... like the new G27 pedals. Cant find the post - but you can get the G25 pedals working fine....

and again @ 1680 1050 Settings HIGH 1024 cockpits Min, Max, Avg 22, 133, 76.484 i7 @ 4ghz - xfx 5870 @ 875 1250 ... poorly card ;)

interesting read Yoda. Was looking at the FSSB mod - but that would limit maybe the type of games I would play with the Cougar - so gulp! went for NXT. My setups Ive tried. (in order of getting them) Saitek X45 Didnt like the look of this but the price was great at the time. Im not the best flyer in the word perhaps but the stick just wasnt good for me making small adjustments. Saitek X52 Was MUCH better than the 45 - still a bit funky looking and was kinda happy with it. Seemed more accurate - actually liked the buttons but the dials seemed a bit jumpy. Then a friend wanted to buy one so I saw the chance to go for CH stuff and sold him the X52 CH Pro Throttle and Fighterstick. Was strangely disappointed with these. Accurate was the word - noticed instantly compared to the X52 but I found the shape (?) of the stick and the layout awkward for me. I have small hands but I found the buttons on the stick hard to reach. Plastic seemed very well made but at the time I though they were expensive for what they were! Thrustmaster Cougar Ended up picking up a second hand one a while back for about £100. Maybe the throttle worked when sent... maybe I damaged it updating the firmware... not sure... either way I needed a new pot on the Z axis. First impressions.... Heavy..... but AWESOME - the metal is superb. I`d read all about the faults of the Cougar ... stock being rubbish etc... but I could fly well with the stock cougar... checking the joystick analyser showed `some` slight spiking in the stick.... so I bit the bullet and went fur Cubbys hall sensor mods for stick and throttle ... about £150 or so. Gulp. WOW - sooooo precise when installed... throttle was fixed so i got to use the throttle for the first time with Black Shark as the collective.... Flying transformed overnight. I love the switches and the buttons - they feel real good quality and seem they will last many years to come.... shame about the pots at the time I guess. NXT - Will update - but looking forward to it! Logitech G25 Pedals (!) Started using these as the rudder on DCS - they work pretty well for me but I thought I was missing out so ordered the CH Pro Pedals. CH Pro Pedals. First impressions are these are not that good plastic - and feel cheap even compared to the G25 pedals. Ive tried to use them but they just seem the wrong size for my feet and too close together. Pressing them is accurate but I just cant get away with them. Decided to sell them (£55 delivered in the UK if anybody is interested ;) So conclusions : Saitek X52 - good price --- decent accuracy. CH Products - Again not too badly priced - very accurate - Not a good fit for my hands. CH Pedals - Cant get away with them! Ch Cougar - Liked stock - Hall sensor mods = like a different stick - VERY VERY good - NXT looking forward to :) so maybe Ive spent a massive wedge on the stick.... if its as good as Ive read - and it lasts a few years Ill be happy. All my opinion of course.
-
oh my god - just ordered the NXT MOD !!!! how much have I spent on Joystick.... gulp. Hope its worth it. (Asked about the Spring sets.....)

Can't get Cougar working, tried everything..
Conuk replied to Spetz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
yeah cant add anything other than what the others have said... but just saying that my Cougar works fine in windows 7 ultimate 64 with the vista drivers.... I had a bad pot in the throttle and told Thrustmaser what the problem was - still took several emails and a week before i could order a replacement part.... not too good. Anyways replaced them with hall sensors... when you get sorted and you happy with the cougar look at doiing this if you get REAL serious with the flight sims ;) Hope you get it sorted soon.
