DCS Filling Up My Computer Hard Drive
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Installation Problems
Then again there's this little jewel with 2000 mb/s read speed. https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-Gaming-Accelerated-Performance/dp/B083GH4MQH/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=Seagate%2BFireCuda%2B1TB%2BSolid%2BState%2BHybrid%2BDrive&qid=1593247209&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzMkZJM0VTTjlHNUg2JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODMxMTAyMUE1NFZSUjJYQUE2UiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTM0MDc5MTA2SjZHM1VRVUtCSSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 -
DCS Filling Up My Computer Hard Drive
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Installation Problems
I was looking at a couple of USB 3.0 high speed external SSD drives today that had read speeds of over 500 mb/s. Is this fast enough to keep DCS running properly with everything still set at high as I have it now. -
DCS Filling Up My Computer Hard Drive
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Installation Problems
Actually for a laptop it was one of the biggest you can get. Or so I was told. The only other option was to get a 256 gig SSD coupled with a 1 TB HDD. I didn't like the idea of only having 256 gig on my main drive. Like I said it looks like I'm going to have to break into the piggy bank and build me a home unit. Just want to make sure when I do it it's compatible with all my stuff. And expandable. I hated the days of downloading games only to find out that the particular video card I had installed wasn't compatible with that game. Hope those days are behind us. -

The only problem with that is DCS takes so long to download individual modules. Especially when it starts downloading torrent files. -
DCS Filling Up My Computer Hard Drive
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Installation Problems
I would gladly do this if it works but I have a few questions first: > Can you load DCS onto an external drive without it being in your program files and still run the game? > Can you actually run the game from an external HDD and get the same performance? > If not is there a way to install the DCS game on your SSD in the laptop but save the modules on the external drive? I'm seriously considering building a home system since that's the only time I do DCS anyway. Don't walk around with flight controllers in my laptop case. But that's for another thread. Looking to get some insight on what the best system to build. -
DCS Filling Up My Computer Hard Drive

They actually have skins for aircraft that aren't even available? Where are these found? [update] However if they are just going to keep re-installing every time you load the game why bother. -
I just purchased a new high end gaming laptop with a 500 gig hard drive. Now it seems that every time I want to purchase a new module from DCS half my other games have to go away. I love DCS but it's taking over my computer. Why is it so HD storage intensive? I've had to delete over half my other games just to have DCS on my computer. I want to purchase the F-14 while it's on sale but again it's requiring a huge amount of my HD space just to download it. Why is the F-14 also telling you that your hard drive space requirement will depend on your graphics settings. What's that all about. Your graphics setting should only affecting GPU or CPU requirements. I am literally down only a couple other games just so I can have DCS. I own the F-16, F-18, F-5E, Mig-29, P-51, F-86 Sabre, F-15C, The Normandy upgrade, Blue Nosed Bastards upgrade, Super Carrier and just uploading the Persian Gulf upgrade required me to again delete another game. It's going to get to the point where I have to delete DCS modules to load others.

Back 20 years ago when I first bought these controls Foxy didn't exist. It was a third party program that I purchases when it came out. I still have the original CD in the case. I also recently found I believe, I'm not at home out of town right now, an SW-22 upgrade control board upgrade. Not sure what I bought that for.

How did you get it to recognize the radar cursor control. Thru Foxy or the original CCP (Cougar Control Panel) from when these were first manufactured? Mine are at least 15 years old.

Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Thrustmaster
I know this is a little late for when you posted but I was finally able to see what my axis are doing in DCS. When I pull up this window in DCS it does show RX and RY as a selection. However it does not show up when I go to the axis commands but when I turn the antenna elevation know it shows up as the RX axis. So I definitely need to load up the old CCP panel and change the axis commands. -
Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??

Sounds Good. -
I'm starting to see that. The one issue I did have with running the TARGET GUI in DCS is anytime you try to modify your controls in the DCS control panel while you have the TARGET GUI running in the background no matter what you select for your keys when you hit the OK button in DCS it adds the mouse button #1 to the profile so I just had to shut it off so it wouldn't keep doing that.

I see where your confusion is coming on the multiple threads. This thread was started for help with running the TARGET GUI. This is a totally different subject or hurdle should I say to solving the Radar Cursor. I started this thread because I was having problems loading up or setting up the Fly Now! load up screen. Didn't realize that you didn't need to use the Fly Now. Your controllers would emulate the last setup you put in. Sorry still can't get the pictures to load up onto the forum. Guess I have to research that next..jeeeshh!!

Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Thrustmaster
I started this Thread specifically centered around trying to get the Cougar HOTAS mini joystick on the Throttle Quadrant System working. My biggest problem is I don't have the CCP anywhere on my computer despite using the controls for some time now. So far I haven't been able to find any software including the new TARGET GUI that lets me see my axis the way they used to in the older CCP formats as you showed me in this thread on 5-29-2020. Trust me if I could find this format and move them around as simple as that I would be a happy man. The VGA to USB connector did not work as you guessed. The problem is the other gameport to USB adapters that you suggested are not the same structural format as my TQS. I have a 3x5 stacked pin where those where a longer narrower 2 stack. I'm not sure what you mean about mucking up other threads. I'll have to go back and look. I do know that I was searching around for answers and might have attached a post in a couple. I've also been doing some posting regarding building control panels for some of the more complicated keyboard macros. Can't stand trying to fly and having to type in some three key combination to do a simple command. Drives me crazy!! But again that has nothing to do with trying to find an answer for TQS radar cursor control problem. The same with the thread for the Warthog vs. Virpil was not associated with this problem although if I mentioned it in there I apologize. I was simply looking for input because I was considering upgrading if these problems persisted. Didn't mean to start any confusion. I know some people read some threads and not others. Anyway I very much appreciate the input and the help. I haven't done a lot of computer work in the last 15 years since my son became old enough to tie up all my time. Not complaining. I've loved every minute of it and him. Now he has been in college for the last 2 years and I decided to check out the DCS add that kept annoyingly popping up on the Youtube videos I was watching. Holy S**T who knew flight sims had come so far. These were what we always dreamed of back when we were editing European Air War files and increasing bombing runs from 5 B-17s and escorts to 30 B-17s. Man talk about immersive. Scanning the skies as you fly over Europe looking for a 109 to go after. Can't tell you the hours I spent buried in my back room looking at a little 14" monitor. Believe or not the controls I'm "trying" to use now are the same controls I used back then. 20 years ago. Any way you can tell me how to find that CCP table that you showed me? -
Setting up generic toggles and switches???
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This video is what made me ask the question. He's more walking you thru what he did to achieve what he wanted but not what makes it work. Say I wanted to build a control panel from scratch. I already know what toggles and switches do because I used them for years in my youth mostly on cars. But my question is how do you get your computer keyboard function to recognize those switches. What does the circuit board do that you are wiring to to perform this function. -
Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Thrustmaster
I purchased this so when I get back to my out of town rental house where my setup is I'll try it and see what happens. For only $20 it was worth the gamble to try. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F6TS8KZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -
I think I have to create a shared folder within Google for anybody to see them. Have to try later once work around the house is done.

Virpil CM2 vs. Warthog Throttle (only)
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've always loved the realism design of the Cougar HOTAS throttle controller. Modeled after the real F16 stick. -
Virpil CM2 vs. Warthog Throttle (only)
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I ordered the VGA USB adapter to separate the throttle controller from the Joystick base so it will show up as a separate controller and maybe the microstick axis will show up in either DCS or TARGET GUI. Won't be able to find out until I get back up to my out of town house where my setup is installed. -
Here you go. Sorry for only attaching links. For some reason I can't insert pictures even though I am copying a legitimate web address. (I think..lol) the pictures are of the same thing only one's just closer than the other. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipOhQggvFjuaR-GgvMD_5iyXDPYz5hBhPUHwhHn7 https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipOkRzy2a1YROnq-w6eVu9wdP9_i2yJOb1-2htK6

Was able to get that fixed but had to turn TARGET software off and restart DCS to get rid of it. I order a 15 pin VGA to USB 3.0 converter for $19.95 hope this works although everything listed about these converters says they are for video purposes. However they are the only ones with the 15 pin connector stacked in 3 rows of 5. The rest of them are flat with 15 pins in 2 rows. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F6TS8KZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now since loading up the TARGET software every time I try to select a command on the DCS control profiles and I select a keystroke for an action when I click the OK button with my mouse it adds the mouse button 1 to the the command line. WTF!!!!! Didn't have this problem before using the TARGET software. All I wanna do is fly some simulator for gods sake!!!!

How do I take something out of the TARGET for the cougar HOTAS when it's showing it as one functional controller because it is not all USB based.
