Virpil CM2 vs. Warthog Throttle (only)
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was told I could do this in the TARGET GUI but I don't see anywhere that it lets me do that. -
TARGET manual does not clearly tell you how or what you are supposed to put in the first three lines to add DCS so TARGET recognizes it. The manual tells you about the first line which I'm not even sure I've done correctly. When I put in what they told me from the shortcut it gave me the updater.exe. It also totally ignores what is supposed to go into the second or "Working Directory". I am assuming it is C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World only because it's the only thing I could find that comes close. As for the third command line it tells you nothing of where you are supposed to find it only what it "could" look like. Now all this is probably second nature for people that dabble in computer language but for some or a lot of us it's not real clear what you are supposed to do. I have no problem when it comes to binding keyboard commands with buttons or building macros. I used to do with the old Thrustmaster software but it's been a while and the manual is very vague IMHO. So far nothing has worked because when I start DCS it does show the Thrustmaster category virtual in the control category. Can anyone help me get this loaded up properly. Thanks ahead.

How would you use this with DCS. I love how close the gear lever is to the real thing but how would the engine startup knob work with DCS? With it only being a USB plug in how does it recognize when the know controls?

Thanks. I've made some modifications since these photos. Knees kept hitting wood at shins so I cut out some more wood to allow more room for my knees. Also built the backboard big enough to add some more controllers as soon as I figure what I want. I hate always having to do keyboard combinations in the middle of trying to fly. Want something like the Koolertron for basic macros. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076LRJ528/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza Would you happen to know why it won't let me put my pictures in using the web addresses shown?

Why won't it let me post a picture using my google photos URL for the photo. This is the URL I'm trying to use in the "insert image" box but nothing comes up. I can click on the link and it sends me to my photo but I want to insert the image into the thread like everyone else is doing. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNht6Ctq2pOndtGznSeFoPjPd8RYRyP7m6u8Nqa

Just thought I'd throw mine in here. This is my out town portable sim stand. I rent houses for 6 to 7 months at a time to build gas stations out of town. Usually only go home on weekends and holidays and I like to spend that time with the family. So my rental house is my MAN CAVE!! I like being able to experiment when out of town so I don't have to hear my wife complain about how bad something looks in the front office...lol. [Edit] For some reason it's not letting insert the image even though it's from a google website but you can click the links and see it if you like. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipOwEjXl0yKbJsCpAEc4s5QKYd4Y50Ayil3WkGJt https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPkGdcWnGUikfLSDp4S-Fhq6K5FdT7UcU8zP07K https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNl8IVJf_C6CGppadkZh664UmTD67qqhA5ZwC2R https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipM74S8XHA2UPE8LcJe7jHmDd5uixc7GS8NZuTQT The chair was the best find. Have been looking forever for a chair to use that didn't have arms in my way. Found this one at Staples but when I saw the $230 price tag I was disappointed but when I looked on there website it was on sale for $129. I nearly ran to the front counter hoping they had one in stock. Needless to say I went home with my new flight sim seat. What I love about it is I can adjust it to any angle and leave it there because it doesn't require the arms to support it. I Just left those off. the best part it's comfortable as hell. Not like all those game chairs I've sat in that felt like you where in a chair that was meant for preschoolers digging into your sides. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipM232IkG2azG39-t6DJ8SCYpFOUea_8pYRr0hJa https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNhFTgXLf6h2XJJE8vBXZnhO9uYpnp6OPRa4gx7 https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPxEgYbex6fbrfXN2A4oLVLDE4tj1bxK6EA4-EI The wife doesn't know about the 49" 2160 4KUHD TV that I'm using for a monitor yet...

Virpil CM2 vs. Warthog Throttle (only)

because the older TM Cougar HOTAS system has the throttle and rudder pedals run thru the base of the joystick control it reads as one controller with the throttle and rudder pedals being 2 of the 8 axis that Windows Direct X allows. You can't separate the throttle and/or rudder pedals without using a USB adapter and I don't know if the cheaper smaller adapters will allow TARGET to read the throttle and/or rudder separately. I was always under the impression that you needed either the TUSBA https://realsimulator.com/tusba/ or the RUSBA https://realsimulator.com/rusba/ in order to fully read the controllers as a separate USB controller. If I order the TUSBA DCS will show it under controllers as a separate controller thereby giving in another 8 axis under Windows Direct X (I think. Haven't tried yet.) One of the things I do want to try is to move the toe brakes to the 9 & 10 axis that Windows Direct X doesn't recognize and and use the toe brake axis for my mini joystick X & Y on the controller. The older Elite rudder pedals do not have toe brakes. -
Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Thrustmaster
Will DCS recognize my throttle with some as minimal as these adapters? I was under the impression that you had to use something that actually had software built into it like Real Simulator's TUSBA. https://realsimulator.com/tusba/ -

The problem with that is because the throttle and the rudder system are both run through the Joystick base TARGET sees it as one controller. Because of this Window Direct X only allows the 8 axis. If I purchased the Real Simulator TUSBA adapter it would recognize it as a separate controller with it's own axis. I THINK?? https://realsimulator.com/tusba/ Another option is mounting a secondary game pad with mini thumb joystick behind my throttle base. I planned to put something that I can bind static controls to like landing gear, tank jettison, caution resets, etc...without having to do combination keystrokes on the computer like Shift+Alt+Enter. Stupid stuff like that. Always a pain. This way I can reach down behind my throttle control just like the side control panels on the plane and hit whatever button I need. I'm currently looking at the Razar Tartarus V2 with the small thumb stick joystick controller. https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Tartarus-Progammable-Detachable-Mecha-Membrane/dp/B07754PYFK/ref=psdc_402051011_t1_B07NBJVH4G -
How do you know if it's Open Beta or Stable? Should I create both folders in my user folder? New to DCS. BTW..there is no DCS folder at this time in my user folder. Is that unusual or do I have to create the entire string of folders? Thanks ahead.

Are you able to use the radar cursor control on the throttle? Is so how did you do it?

Virpil CM2 vs. Warthog Throttle (only)
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
As was explained to me in a previous post https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=275374the radar cursor is treated the same as a joystick axis. Actually as shown in the chart on the 3rd and 4th post it called microstick X and microstick Y. The problem is it falls under TM axis 9 & 10 and windows Direct X only recognizes 8 axis. So windows doesn't even recognize them. My only alternative that I can do from just now rereading the post is to move the toe brakes into the 9 & 10 axis and move my microstick X & Y into their slots. The older Elite Rudder pedals don't have toe brakes so I would have to use the keyboard for that anyway. -

What is the Deltasim mod? Never heard of that. -
Which would you choose and why? Looking to upgrade from my TQS throttle with the Cougar system. Purchased the Virpil Warbrd joystick base that I can put my Cougar F16 style control stick on. Since the radar cursor on the TQS is not able to bind to any of the DCS controls (without some work I might add) I am looking for a throttle base that has more control features than just what's on the throttle but not sure which one to use. Any tips?

If you aren't interested (at this time) in creating your own skins how do you access all the other "liveries" that are shown in the file system. How do you apply the different skins or countries already in the DCS World livery files to your planes while in DCS??
-
I actually like the system of purchasing the modules instead of subscription based. Once I've bought it I own it (As long as the server stays running). I first downloaded this game around Christmas time and they had a %50 off sale of a lot of their stuff. So instead of spending $150 on a couple of planes I was able to spend the same amount on several planes from the different eras that I love. Keeping up with monthly subscriptions is a pain. The only thing I do agree on is that if it's released as an "Early Access" then it needs to be finished or have a team that's constantly upgrading or tweaking each module.

Don't know if I'd like the back seat'er version. Have been waiting for the F14 to come down in price to try it out and see if I like someone always talking to me from the behind me. I have watched some YT videos of it. Can you control how much "Jester" talks to you like say only talk to me during alerts or in combat. Could of sworn I heard him tell the pilot once..."Let's get down there Mav!"....lol.

Does anybody know if they are ever going to make the F15 a fully functional cockpit like the F18, F16 and F5E? Seems like such a waste to have one of the most superior and high tech fighters in the game so "dumbed down". I thought I saw in one of the tutorial videos there were plans for it. Just curious.

Latest update fixed all cockpit mouse controls. Everything's working now.

Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Thrustmaster
Great explanation. I'm finally starting to see some possibilities for fixing this. The only conflict I see in your suggestion is that my rudder pedals are the older Elite pedals that are seen as the RZ axis I believe in DCS so they have to have a spot within the software. If I move them to 9 and/or 10 won't this render them nonusable? -
I am having this same problem but not sure of the fix you are describing. I have a yellow cross for the mouse cursor but it doesn't change when I move it over the controls. I have the F16, F18, F5E and the F86 Sabre.

Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??
msmith301 replied to msmith301's topic in Thrustmaster
My biggest problem is that DCS doesn't even show the radar cursor control as even existing. No matter what I try to assign it to it doesn't show up as active, however I can assign the BTN-29 that you get when you press down on the cursor which would be the target lock for the cursor. -
Setting Up TM Cougar Throttle Radar Cursor in DCS??

Stupid question but what would loading the T.A.R.G.E.T. software that Thrustmaster has on their site do to help with all of this?
