I haven't flown any WW2 warbirds since a recent update introduced those really annoying yellow-and-red screen flashes. Today someone on another thread mentioned that disabling civilian traffic gets rid of the flashes, so I had to try. And, of course, I had to jump into my favorite warbird - the Polikarpov I-16. This is the standard instant-action P-51D "Scramble" mission, but I changed my plane (and my wingman's) to I-16. Enjoy!

Ah... Spoke too soon. Tried a P-51 instant action mission in the Caucuses and the flashes are still there. Next I'll remove civilian traffic altogether and try again. Either way, I hope 2.7OB addresses this really annoying issue...
-
I just switched to the latest OB and tried a quick Spitfire mission in the Caucus map. I set the civilian traffic to "low". Amazing - no flashes!!! I have to fly more missions, try different aircraft, different maps, but so far so good. And I didn't even have to turn off civilian traffic - just set it to "low". Thanks so much for the super-useful tip Enduro14!! Doc

Interesting! Are you talking about this bug: It's certainly worth a try, though civilian traffic adds extra realism to the game (at least for me). Either way, 2.7 is right around the corner, so I hope they would have figured it out by release time.
-
Yeah, if you try to fly it, it's just a box. (Amazingly DCS stilled logged 1min in the Zero for me... LoL!). However, if you set it up with AI, it's beautiful and VERY challenging to fight against. Cheers!

Once again, my sincere thanks for taking the time to help me out!!! My problems were a combination of improperly set up antenna elevation (turns out it was somehow bound to my left rudder pedal as well! LoL!) and my inexperience with scanning using the radar elevation. The other thing is that this particular mission starts you in the air and pretty close to the bandits. By the time I get my systems set up, the F-5s are within the 10mi range. At any rate, I'm getting much better at operating the radar now. Thank you SO MUCH for all your time and advice. I really appreciate it.

The reason I'm running stable (and an earlier version at that) is because of the horrible flashing in WWII warbird missions that appeared when the new damage model was introduced a few versions back. I had to revert to a stable version before the new damage model because warbirds were unusable otherwise. They said they are close to a fix, which will probably be introduced in 2.7 - one more reason to swtich 2.7OB when it comes out.
-
Thanks! I am usually running stable, but it may be worth switching to open-beta just for 2.7.
-
So, is DCS 2.7 supposed to come out as open-beta, stable, or both? (Sorry it this has been asked - I did search around but couldn't find an answer.)
-
The F-5E carries IR missiles, so, no, the radar doesn't help with those. The radar is VERY useful however for aiming the guns.

Great video! Thank you!

I just re-flew the mission (it's the standard instant-action Su-27 "Bomber Intercept" mission - I just replaced the Su-27s with JF-17s). The track file is 8.2MB, so I put it in dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/s/xpyv0d3voha7sgj/Bomber_Intercept.trk?dl=0). I did better in terms of finding the targets, but at times I'm still struggling (like that silly B-52 after the two F-5s are show down and then at the very end I'm just trying to lock up my AWACS and I can't find it forever even though I know exactly where it is). Probably just my lack of experience, so I appreciate any suggestions to help me get more proficient with using the radar.

Thank you SO MUCH for the in-depth review of the video. I think I may have taken this before I removed the assignment to axis. I'll record a new track today and post here. Again, I really appreciate all the help and insights!

Two AV8Bs escorting a C-130... -
Thanks, guys.I did, indeed, have my antenna mapped to the slider and, after removing the assignment, I hoped that the problem is solved. But it's still not picking up anything until I'm really close and switch to ACM. Here's a short video:

Hi, I'm fairly new to the JF-17, so I'd really appreciate some help with the A2A radar. Put simply, I cannot pickup any targets. I start in the air. The AAP is all lit up (incl. RDR and RWR). I switch to BVR (INTC). The radar is NOT on standby and NOT silenced. The caret is moving along the bottom, the 3 bars are moving up and down, and... nothing. The targets are at co-altitude - sometimes at 35miles, sometimes so close I can see them and pick them up when I switch to ACM. In fact, that's the only way I can get anything to show up on the radar B-scope. If I get out of ACM and go back to BVR, the radar is blank again (occasionally it'll start picking up targets after I return from ACM to BVR). Choosing RWS or TWS makes no difference. So, basically the only targets I can engage are those that are close enough to pick up in ACM. Of course, by then the Vipers (or whatever I'm fighting) have long since fired their AIM120s and forced me on the defensive without ever having acquired them on radar. Needless to say, this is very frustrating. So, any help would be very much appreciated. I can post a track file or a video if necessary. Thanks in advance. Doc

Best DCS PC could have for VR

What is your budget? Do you have VR gear and a joystick/throttle already? -
Does anyone know if the latest stable version that was released today (March 5th, 2021) has fixed this issue? I don't want to update just to find out if the issue is still there, and then have to revert back... Much appreciated. Doc

Part 2: Same American strike package but you are now flying a MiG-19. Much more challenging!
-
The video below is a fictitious Vietnam War engagement between three Vietnamese MiG-19s and an American strike package of four F-105s escorted by two F-4Es. Without countermeasures and with only two missiles and few gun rounds, I found this mission quite challenging. The fact that I hadn't flown the MiG-19 in a long while made this even more challenging. Hope you enjoy the video:

Is this pack still available? When I click on the link it says the pack is in the owner's trash. Could you please repost? Thanks Doc
