  1. "Val"s and "Zero"s headed for our carrier group. We have to stop them at all cost! https://youtu.be/Ql9F1juaLlQ
  2. Here's a video about sinking the Zuikaku carrier. Thanks for the link to the Pacific Theater assets Devil505. https://youtu.be/Zwuv7WP7xeU
  3. I just tried the setUnitInternalCargo on the Zero from the Japanese website. With weight set to 2000kg, the Zero barely moves, so it's not a challenge even on "ace". At 1200kg it's very competitive and challenging but not a UFO. At 1500kg it's adequate as an opponent, but not as lively and fun. So, depending on your preference and skill, it looks like 1200kg to 1500kg is where you need to be to have the Zero fly like a Zero. I may post a video later. Cheers and thanks again for the tip about setUnitInternalCargo!!
  4. Well... Here's a vid of me playing with the Raiden 1-v-1. Raiden is set to "veteran" (may have been "ace") but I did give myself a 70% fuel while the J2M3 is flying with 100% fuel. https://youtu.be/FIK1e9z5a7E My problem with this mod is that it's too easily damaged/destroyed - a couple of hits on the wing or something and it's going down. By comparison, the fake "Zero" (Fw190A8) can take all kinds of punishment and still flies. The Zeke mod from the above website is unusable: Even on "rookie", the thing flies like a UFO - far worse than the Raiden. The B-29 is ok, but flies more like a fighter than a heavy bomber. The Japanese carrier is awesome. Regardless of all the quirks, I'm very thankful to the creator of these mods for all the work he/she has put in. Too bad they've haven't kept them updated for the newer DCS versions, but for the most part, the mods are still fairly usable.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but are the dimensions of the Essex-class carrier correct? You can't park more than three Corsairs side-by-side in the currently modeled version, yet looking at old images online, it appears that they used to park 4 planes with space to spare. Not really complaining, just curious. null
  6. Here's a video of an B-29 escort mission. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/19Ihfsbk65Q

    Carrier landings

Here's a looooooong video (about 40min) of my "daytime carrier quals". Did 12 traps on the Essex though only 10 were needed IRL (and only 8 in one day). When I edited the mission, I forgot to adjust the wind direction, so there's a constant 10mph cross-wind. I figured it's an opportunity to practice crabbing even if it's not realistic. https://youtu.be/PQEMpcFYGaM
  9. I'll play. Here's a pair of F-4U Corsairs taking on two MiG-15s. I know, I know... it's been done to death but it's new for me, so I had to try. https://youtu.be/5fOiGLbtHF0
  10. After my seat-of-the-pants first flight off the carrier this morning, I did a second flight tonight to test out how she behaves more thoroughly. Did some basic aerobatics - loops, half-Cuban-eights, different types of rolls, KE, spins and stall turns. She's fine and recovers well and relatively quickly from all kinds of unusual attitudes. Just have to anticipate her and dance on the rudder pedals. Trim is essential at all times and in all regimes. Takeoff and landing are non-events. Did anyone else observe the engine cutting out when flying (sustained) inverted? Is this a software glitch or did the real F-4U have a carburated engine? At any rate, here's the "aerobatics" video - enjoy! https://youtu.be/7t_DAAerbQU
  11. Just downloaded the F-4U and gave the carrier takeoff/landing a try. Takeoff is easy, but landing back on deck is freaking scary. This bird is very sensitive to throttle input, so just a touch her and there is sufficient once she's trimmed. Visibility on final is horrible. I'm sure it'll get better with practice but this first landing was quite literally "on a wing and a prayer"... https://youtu.be/BtxYLh-3Xc8
  12. Just watched the new "2025 and Beyond" vid and did not see any La-7s. Is that a bad sign???
  13. Frankly, I don't care anymore. When it comes out, I'll probably buy it, but this lack of consistent communication with just a few short clips sprinkled a few months apart has made me lose interest...
  14. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the AI so much. It's very predictable and, as someone already noted earlier on this thread, it flies reactively relative to what you do, which means you can force it to do stupid things that most people would not do. Here's a video I made specifically to demonstrate how you can get the AI (yes, set to "Ace") to fly basically the same pattern every time. (Pardon my lack of gun skills...)
  15. Now that the F-4E is finally out, I'd like to revive this thread with a request to Heatblur: Please give us a naval Phantom!!!
  16. The silence is deafening...
  17. Every AI airplane's behavior is messed up right now - they all fly like UFOs. But, like TOViper said, I do look forward to trying the Mig-21 vs. F-4 contest (from both sides) against human opponents.
  18. "Stiffer" and "more susceptible to damage" are not necessarily correlated. The LG may indeed have been stiff, but I can't imagine that the real aircraft was all that fragile given the rigors of war and the brief training of the average ww2 pilot... But my beef is with how irritating taxiing is now. You can't really make it out in the video, but with the VR headset on, it's very annoying. It's understandable that the stiff LG would make taxiing more bumpy, but in the real aircraft your whole body was bouncing around while, in VR, my body stays comfy in my chair but my eyesight is being subjected to a rapid vibration. It seems more pronounced on harder surfaces than on grass (which makes sense). I'm not sure if there's something they can do about it if it's realistic systems modeling they are after...
  19. I hadn't flown the Mossy in a long time - probably over a year. I do remember when they announced that the LG has been re-worked, but didn't really think it'd make that much of a difference until I started reading about people experiences. So, I found a 1/2 hr today to try it out - made a quick video too. Honestly, I don't find it all that different - maybe I just don't remember how it used to be. It's not hard to land, but after landing, the bouncing and vibrations during taxiing are intolerable in VR.
  20. I I-16 is my favorite warbird. It's the one that gives me the most feeling of flight and, after landing, the most sense of accomplishment. Just raising and lower that LG is a chore, so is keeping an eye on the temp gauges and rpm during dogfight. I just wish they had the variant with the 20mm cannon - right now it literally takes all the ammo at close range to bring anything down. On a similar note, while waiting for the F-4E, I rediscovered the Hornet. I'm mostly an A2A guy, so I never bothered to learn any A2G stuff. It's a whole new world! It will certainly keep me occupied until the F-4 drops in.
  21. Beautiful plane. Interesting that he is flying it from the front cockpit. Usually, bipes are flown solo from the rear cockpit.
  22. Understood. Thank you for the clarification.
  23. To be honest, what rubbed me the wrong way was that the F-4E preorder was announced in late fall (with winter release), then all of a sudden Youtube was flooded with videos of the F-14 released for MSFS. It felt like HB put their effort into a holiday release of the other product and put the F-4 on the back burner. Maybe it's not so, but it felt wrong... Either way, I'm in no rush: Right now I can't even play DCS because of the Oculus issue, which kills DCS on startup. For me, it's more important to get an ED fix, so I can at least use the other modules while waiting for the F-4.
  24. Had this issue a few weeks ago and switching off PTC on the Oculus app seemed to do the trick then. I was out of town last week and hadn't touched DCS. Just tried to start it today and now the problem is back (even with PTC off). I'm trying to read through the threads, but there doesn't seem to be a universal solution. I'm guessing that the majority of people playing VR use Oculus, so this affects not an insignificant number of DCS players. So, my question is simple: When do we expect a reliable ED fix for this issue?
  25. I guess we got our answer this morning. Thank you ED for the update! I'm so looking forward to this bird!!
