As someone who is on stable do you know when this will be pushed out? -
Argeed. I was trying to share my own discovery that the force trim works well and the mistakes I made thinking it was broken or difficult. It's gone on a tangent now.
-
Lol. I know what the thread is for I've been writing in it for two days. I'm done now.
-
Well I'm no expert so can't say. I do remember both wags and casmo mentioning aerodynamic trim and nose/tail trim being different. Seems to be what is described.
-
Looks like a p version too. Fixed gun?
-
Casmo mentions this in one of his videos. This is accurate to the aerodynamics of a Helo. Probably to do with the torque generated and other stuff. Worth a look.

I think one of the mistakes I made in the beginning was when on a large defection, I would trim, return to centre and then feel like I needed to continue to make that large deflection, start to go wrong, trim, make another large deflection to correct, trim. Therefore trimming further and further away from what I wanted. Once trimmed and centered it's then just minor controls to maintain.
-
Which special option mode?
-
I can't see that if you are "flying hard" and don't want to recenter the controls you would need to trim at all. You are describing trimming for a highly temporary and transitional scenario.... You would have trimmed prior to the manoeuvre and be looking to trim again after.
-
But if you had a timed release, and you were not in center, wouldn't your controls instantly spring to a position that you had not trimmed for? It probably takes me less than a second to center, and you don't need to remain in center either.
-
Yeah ok, you are referring to the bumps. Can't say I have seen that, but I will look out for it now and it definitely hasn't affected my trimming. When you do go to take off those minor bumps (central position only) did not create the out of control position. When you trim there is an immediate right pedal input which is what sets you out of control. The odd offset at the load-in is covered by wags in his launch day video Yes - deadzone balance is probably important. 2 is really quite small (and followed wags setup). Yes to everything about a combat helicopter and needing to be quickly evasive, but learn to walk before running.
-
I've just re-read that post. It does do what you say of course. I may have misread it.. I think may have been getting at neutral position isn't actually that useful. Hover is back and left (westen), forward is forward etc etc
-
Don't think I have seen it, which page is it on? EDIT: Oh yeah I have seen it, I'll have another look.
-
Just realised when reading your post how important a deadzone might be to the central trimmer option. I use 2 but if its 0 I guess that would make it harder for the system to know. Also you say about trimming when combat manoeuvring. Do not do this. At least to start with. Only trim to a status that you intend to maintain, or a slowly changing status (like when slowing down) Practice trimming and returning to centre during a level slow down. From trimmed forward flight don't over do it to begin with, get right down to lower speed and then do it. Its actually ideal because rather than then making micro-corrections with your actual stick pulled back, you now do it finger tip from central and get the full benefit of your curves (if you haave any applied) Also the instant trim shouldn't be default. It is like like you say impossible to catch it before it lurches. I guess ED felt it preferable to one that potentially didn't have an immediate response.
-
Can't say I've definitely done that scenario but not experienced what you are seeing. I find it quite stable. Perhaps there is turbulence in the mission? Why don't you try with different loadouts and with different weather.
-
I'm ok with a reset if people really want it, but I have realised now that it is not required. However as a previous user of reset I didn't know that this wasn't a real control and I think it has resulted in some negative training for me as I would use this after incorrectly using the force trim (hind). The 64, and this thread, has pushed me to learn how to do the trim realistically, with a spring stick.
-
Now I have crossed over from not understanding to understanding, I sort of get what you mean but I think you are looking at it backwards. Rather than the ghost stick in the cockpit, once you have centred your actual stick, it would be more accurate to lean your own stick on it's mount(or desk) to the same place as the trimmed stick in game. That's more how it's represented. Still centred in its base but matching the angle of the trimmed stick. Not practical or necessary at all but a better way of thinking about it.
-
Yeah trim is only a part of getting that right! Get used to watching the v/s like a hawk....
-
No the reset trimmer doesn't do this. Once you got the idea you will lose the need for a neutral reset.
-
Yeah I'm sure you can use it with the spring on that special option. I actually am not keen on the dampner for the planes and slacken it off as much as possible (avoids removing it). I found that it stopped it going all the way to centre unless the spring was massively tightened or the dampner is at its lowest setting.
-
I was there too, but got the hang of it yesterday. I started with slowing down from 100 knots while trying to keep level. Bump the collective down pull back cyclic and repeat. After a while the cyclic was quite far back. Tap trim, recentre and then just finger tip controls again. Almost like "banking" all the inputs you have done previously. I think going into level flight is easier because the intention is to rest therefore returning to centre anyway. I am still using xwinds with no spring, so I haven't any problems with the pedals (third special option) Good luck, its satisfying when you get it.
-
Well, I got it now but I think the combination of flying, control overlay and the actual stick would show people everything. There is some hand movements there that are not visible otherwise. I (like others) was ok in trimming for level flight because the intention is to rest my arms so I did return to centre. However when transitioning it initially feels wrong as you expect to lose control. Once your brain has made this connection, it makes total sense and its hard to think of it any other way!
-
Not the control overlay, the actual stick. That will show the return to centre not registered by the white diamond.

I was pleased to see the option for empty hellfire racks as a loadout as this seems to be a standard addition to transiting or training apaches. Can we also have empty rocket pods for the same reason?
