  1. I should start by saying this is in stable version and in single player. I am new to this game but my PC is also new I just built around xmas. It is a good PC and runs other games without issue in max setting but no I am running VR. I have tried various graphics settings nad followed thuds settings. I have run with repojection on and off and it doesnt matter. I still get FPS drops around in game assets like the Carrier or airports mostly. Any airport in the PG map is awful for FPS drops. I have tried running two cores dedicated to dcs and all cores. I also set priority to high. I have seen one or two cores hit 100% or very close to it. DCS is running on a samsung 970 PRO NVME. CPU temps stay below 63c and GPU temp stays under 55. RAM usage is over 12 and 13gb. Paging file is set over 19gb. Should hyper threading be turned off or any other settings in BIOS be changed? I remember back when battlefield 4 came out they said to turn off hyper threading since it caused stutters and FPS drops. THey later fixed the issue. Also GPU usage is always below 70% and sometimes dips to 20% or less. My GPU is overclocked and I have run it a stock settings. Nothing makes a difference. I also get these FPS drops without VR on my 1080p monitor. Now FPS is always going to vary but this is dropping to less than 20. Could the FPS drops be caused by the headset loosing tracking for some reason while my head is moving? I am hoping that ED will see how popular VR is getting and optimize more for it. PC specs are below.
  2. I did get it reset to 100% so that now in all programs 100% res shows the correct numbers. Helped a little but not much with fps drops. I did turn reprojection on and it didnt do much especially around the carrier group Still got fps drops and saw the light and dark blue indicators on. Then read some about how some people had to restrict dcs to use less than all cores to get a more stable fps. I restricted it to cores 5 & 6( no real reason) and it seems improved but random drops around the carrier can still happen but it is less. Not sure if I need more RAM since others have tested more ram but without improvement. CPU is looked at 5ghz all the time, and the 2080ti is always above 2100mhz clock and 8000mhz memory.temps are all good. CPU never gets above 58c and gpu may get above 52c. RAM and SSD temps are all great. I am wondering if the headset is actually losing tracking and causing the fps drops or just a signal drop when i look around. my walls are mostly white and then looking straight ahead I have 3 black monitors then a large black mousepad with a dark grey desk. Maybe lights in the room could need to be brighter. I need to be brighter as well.
  3. It was just confusing when yours showed 240fps. I know mine cant get more than 90 for sure. I noticed some improvement with the settings but the image quality is more degraded especially in external views. I wish MSAA and SSAA didn't give such a big hit to FPS because it cleans up the jagged edges so much.
  4. Do you know if I cna just run OB if I also installed it on my PC without going through the CMD prompt? Also I am not sure how it handles my modules from stable version. I assume if I run OB I cna just go back using the CMD prompt anyway. I installed both versions on my pc first because I was thinking of getting the F16 but didin't. Now I want to try it out to see how it runs on my pc in VR and the graphics differences.
  5. I just ordered my set last night. Can't wait to ditch the TFRP's.
  6. Thank you for letting me know. I am not super PC savvy so I cant just click on the OB icon on my desktop and run it? I am not sure which part of the instructions I need to follow from that link since it all looks like it is for updating with CMD or reverting to an older build. I did try to launch OB from my desktop and it asked me about transferring my modules. I didnt do it because I wasnt sure if I would be able to go back to stable.
  7. Hey I am totally new with only 4 days in, can I go back and forth between the Stable and OB then using the same modules for F18 and F14? I downloaded the OB but never ran it due to performance fears. I am battling some already in stable ver. I was hoping my system could run OB without too much issue in VR. I am curious to see graphics differences.
  8. It seems the OP has left the building. Either that or got VR and was sucked into it and is now Lawnmower man.
  9. I think it is just me being used to more arcade like flying games with crazy unreal physics.lol I am trying to learn now and it is harder than I thought. I have no idea what I am doing most of the time. I need to hire a Sim instructor pilot.:(
  10. I just tried your settings and it literally made zero difference. I have no idea how you are getting 243 FPS in VR. Here is my result. I do get frametime spikes in certain areas of maps that rally hammer fps. My PC is not low end by any means either.
  11. Thanks for the reply. Ya I messed with the settings today again. I made another thread in this forum where I have screenshots of FPSvr and how my reported resolution was really high by default. Now it has gotten better since I adjusted it with FPSvr but i still do get random frametime spikes in certain instances over trees or dense building areas. My fps went back up to over 60 to 70 with resolution scale to normal native resolution level. There was some funky things going on where steamvr reported 100% res scale to be 2708 x 2668 or so. Everyone elses I saw was 2208 x2166 I think. Now mine reports that same level as 100%. I did go in and clear out FXO and Metashaders folders yes. Didnt seem to do anything. The scaling was all off in settings for some reason as I state above. Things are still not 100% smooth. I may try to turn on reprojection again to see how it goes. If any of you fly in multiplayer servers that may be able to give me more info let me know. I need some help learning the F18 and F14 also. I am struggling. My landings are about as ugly as they come. I couldn't get aboard a carrier even if Megan Fox was waiting there with her legs spread.
  12. I just got into DCS and got the TFRP pedals since they were available fast so I could get going when my VR and TM HOTAS came in. Yes they are pretty terrible. I seriously can not get any feel for them and taxing is always either not enough or fast and furious Tokyo Drifting then...broken wing, on fire, bail out bail out!. I am wondering which pedals to go with. These look nice or the TM TPR's look good to.
  13. Now after rebooting steam VR and FPSvr it is showing the correct resolution but still getting random bad dips and frametime spikes over certain map areas. Is anyone getting this issue? after spending all this money I am really trying to figure out how to get the game to run well. I have reprojection off as well. Not sure I should turn it on.
  14. So I am chasing fps drop and frametime spikes since yesterday. Steam VR beta(Aka WMR beta) was reporting default 100% figures in the pictures below. Even with the FPSvr settings turned down to lower res I get some random big frametime spikes that really are disorientating. Overall the FPS is higher for sure than I had yesterday with peak fps around 46. I have MSAA and SSAA off and PD at 1.0 with trees, render distance and grass all turned down or off. I am also trying to find the right spot for IPD. tried higher and lower and everytime I take googles off I feel cross eyed for awhile. I am wondering why all my default settings with resolution are totally off from the start. This is how it was from initial install of everything. I am running 3 monitors but I do not think that should impact the resolution scale. with the resolution turned down to lower setting in the pictures I can notice a lot more jagged edges and lack of smooth textures for sure. Also running DCS 2.5.5 The pictures go in order from top left to bottom right starting from default to final settings.
  15. I have been at this for awhile and I can not get my fps back even uninstalling steam vr and WMR and all the subfolders. Turning reprojection off in the in the settings folder and my FPS is still capped below 50fps where as last night it was getting 90+ in most circumstances with low frametimes. I also had the resolution scale in steam turned up to 180%. I am lost with this now. There are a lot of areas where the frame times jump wildly up near an airfield or over densely populated areas with cars and building etc. It can stay int eh mid to high teens frame times at higher altitudes. The reprojection indicator was light blue and dark blue the entire time but I fail to see how my system is both gpu and cpu bound now. My PC should have no issues running this HMD. It had no issues with FPS last night for some reason.
  16. I noticed today that my FPS wont go above 46 and I have lowered settings in several areas. I first hooked up my new Reverbs last night and was getting in excess of 100fps in a lot of areas with frametimes in the low teen. Now today I am getting frametimes in the high 20 to 30s and stutters near an airfield or over dense areas. My DCS still says version 2.5.5 though. I should note that Im not running Beta version though.
  17. No idea what happened but I went to edit the settings file for WMR to turn on reprojection and then adjusted the resolution in steam to the native res of the headset per Thuds instruction and now my frametimes are jumping well into the red into the high 20 and 30's. last night they were in the low teens to mid teens. I tried to set everything back and reduce and increase res in steam vr along with turning off reprojection again and noting helps. Still high frametimes. I even turned off MSAA Super sampling in game.
  18. Thanks for the info on the contrast environment. Yes my walls a re whiter and more bland than Bernie Sanders
  19. So I assume that not using steam VR is only an option for Oculus users and not HP or HTC users? I noticed that steam VR is taking a lot of resources as well and none of the settings for video actually do anything in DCS like reprojection, smoothing and the resolution slider makes zero difference in the game or not enough to notice even at 180%.
  20. Have you had any issues with your reverbs and head movement causing screen flicker or quick freezes? I am likely going to send mine back for the busted earpiece and this screen flickering issues when moving my head at random times. seems to be from the cable since if I move it with my hand it will do the same thing. I know from reddit posts a lot of others are still ahving these issues. It looks like HP is just a terrible company at QC.
  21. Awesome thanks for the info. I will try your suggestions. I have also messed around with the resolution scale in Steam VR and moved it up to 180% and it doesn't seem to much of anything. DCS has to be running in order to change the resolution or motion smoothing for it for some reason. Not sure if doing it in Steam VR default applications will extend to DCS at all. One other thing I noticed is that the image flickers if I lean too far forward to better read dashboard. Not sure if this is the cord moving and it loosing good connection to the headset Ya as far as the SDE goes it is not horrible but I am having issues with the shimmer and jittery nature of scenery messing with my eyes.
  22. I just got the Reverbs today and tried them out. First setup was fast and easy. DCS started up fine and was in the f18 and seemed ok. Then i started getting jitters and looking to the side buildings and cars looked like thy were vibrating. I went back into Steam VR settings and turned on smoothing and reprojection and then because the in cockpit view seemed a bit out of center I re-centered in WMR first. I went back in and then the view was like I was standing on the seat. I saw how to recenter in game but now no matter what I do the position is just too far back from the dash and I have to lean in to read stuff so it is clearer. How can I set these up for the proper seating distance and height in cockpit? Every time I go to WMR to recalibrate things just get worse in DCS. I saw that the Frametimes are in the 19+ range and even with my system I am only getting 45 fps or so with no in game MSAA or Super sampling on. I have MSAA turned on in nvidia control panel. I can also see the screen door effect rather easily so I am not sure why so many reviewers said they really can not see it anymore. To boot I am also getting motion sickness which sucks. How are people dealing with that? I did also get a brand new pair of Reverbs that came out of the box with one of the earphones already broken off. The little stud in the earpiece is just gone. Amazon doesn't have another pair to replace them with if I return them right now. I would be forced to pay more from a third party and wait a week to get them. I am using my own headphones though. I searched for settings on these and there are different opinions on how to go about it. I have IPD set at what it came defaulted to in windows at 63.5 and also left it at the same value in DCS. Everything is blurry off center for sure. Only what is dead center is clear.
  23. I am getting my HP Reverbs today and will be spending time figuring them out. I am pretty sure my system can handle them so it should be a settings trial and error I hope.
  24. I just went all in since I have been on the fence for so long. I got the TM HOTAS WARTHOG, TFRP pedals ( Cheap I know but I needed a set fast) and I have a HP Reverb coming thursday. So I am not sure where to begin but I know it would make things a lot more interesting to fly with others that know what is going on. I have the F14, F18 and A10C with Persian Gulf. I find that in any plane the pitch and roll response seems slow even when I get aggressive with the stick. I tried adjusting the curves but it doesn't seem to do much. The F18 seems like a slow roller and slow to pitch even more so over the Tomcat at various speeds. If that is the way it is supposed to be then so be it. Maybe I am expecting too much response like arcade game physics. I am not really doing anything but free flight with the occasional crash landing. I am hoping when I have my Reverb VR I will be able to fell more in tune with the freedom of looking around without trying to hit keys on the numpad. I have done some of the tutorials but the F14 has me totally spinning. I see why they only let the best fly them in real life. Not a forgiving plane at all being so analog. Makes me respect the Pilots even more than I did. Anyway, if any of you are new or old hats and want another person to fly around with that would be great. I am not a kid and I am really looking to get serious with this SIM. I am at that point in my life where available funds finally line up with my expensive hobbies.lol I have been waiting for years for the VR thing to mature more in order to get back into flight sims.
