Good time to order VKB sticks and grips
BMGZ06 replied to streakeagle's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
I just ordered my GF3 with long extension last week. I guess it was shipped out and then there is another holiday that ended today so it has not left China Fedex depot yet. No idea when it will get here but I will be able to compare it to my TM warthog and I hope it is way smoother and precise without so much off center resistance like the warthog has which feels like there is a big area in the center that does nothing then you hit that wall of resistance before anything happens. Requires way too much movement for me and then i get into PIO too easily. Played with deadzones and nothing really helps since this is a mechanical issue. -
here ya go Good luck doing it though. Only the best can do it in real life and most do not do it if that tells you anything about the level of difficulty. The hornet would be easier to do it in with fly by wire but I saw videos of guys doing it in tomcats which is nutty. The SXXt Hot Break is still very much done today.

Performance is way worse for me as well. I gave up on openbeta for now. Running stable and it is night and day better. I fly in a server on stable that often has over 30 people and it runs fine. In openbeta even with just me in a server it is a mess. Worse than before the last patch.

If you are having issues reading dials then you need to switch to the HP Reverb or Pimax 8k+. I am not a youngster either and I have no issues reading instruments with the Reverb. As far as having to turn your head to see behind you is what I like about it honestly. Makes realize just how dynamic and physical flying fighters really is but without the risk of dying.:) I agree that the clarity is not there yet and spotting can be difficult but flying on a 2D monitor feels like I am just playing an arcade game and I do not feel involved in the flying at all. I tried DCS out almost 10 years ago with the A10 and stopped after an hour because the realism of the sim was lost on me since I wanted to feel like im in the plane and now I do. I simply could not go back to 2d flying or driving sims and lose that feeling VR gives me and how it tricks my brain into thinking Im there. P.S. As far as the 8kx and DCS I just saw MRTV's review and he did hint that most peoples PC's are not going to be able to run it at full 8k res in DCS or other games due to the stress of 8k. Also you are limited to 75hz at 8k still which is also a deal breaker. I would just stick with the Reverb, but take it from me. I have recently been through 3 of them. I got one from Amazon and 2 from BH photo. The ones from BH were older ones made in Sept last year. They had issues with lower native res reported in steamvr than my one from Amazon which was made in Jan 2020. Also the ones from BH had more obvious SDE than the one I have from Amazon. I was going to return it since it came with a broken earphone but I decided to keep it when I got two duds in a row from BH which is not their fault. Order from Amazon if you can. I think they are getting more recent builds with better image quality.

I can confirm that I am seeing the same issue in MP servers of low or high player count. The only time I get playable fps in when I am out over the ocean away from other players. starting at any airbase with others around slams fps to the 20's to low 30's and fluctuates a lot. I went and played on stable since i have both installed and even in higher player count servers of 20 or 30+ I am seeing a pretty stable 45fps in reprojection mode. There are some small dips here and there but nothing bad. I think it is the lighting changes they are making in open beta causing most of the issue. I noticed way more atmospheric occlusion and haze which I believe has the same effect as when you fly through clouds or a players smoke trail and get fps drops. They may be using the same method to reproduce the total map haze that is not found in the stable version since when i played last night for 3 hours the map was clear and then went to beta and tried 3 servers all had the same haze and occlusion effect along with terrible fps. The new lighting does make it feel more realistic but at a cost I think. Maybe it has to do with something else though. I am just guessing here. My PC is not weak either, so that should not be the issue.

Oh ya I am adjusting power often. The one thing I see is that the power takes awhile to respond in the hornet compared to the VIper. I mean when I go full burner in the hornet there is a lot of lag until it lights. In the Viper or even the Tomcat it is way faster to light off. I have not figured out why that is or if that is the way it is in real life. I am using default throttle curves for each plane. I did do some practice last night flying around in landing config in the hornet to practice on speed and how to balance the power and decent rate etc. I did end up getting a better feel for it. I then practice some straight in traps and was getting more consistent 3 and 4 wires with the odd 2 wire and being off centerline. I am also still trying to learn how to properly set a CSEL line that will put me on the right heading far out before I can even see the deck and centerline. I always seem to end up way left. I find that the hornet for me tends to be more effected by ground effect than the F14 coming aboard. The DLC's really help a lot for that.

Ok so I have been using this mod for the last few days in the hornet and Tomcat. It reinforced one very important thing...I suck at this. I was able to get a score of 59 once. I was still all over the place and in real life the LSO would have waved me of in the groove I'm sure due to my turn rate and being to low at the 90. My issue is that I am never able to get the plane settled on AOA and the turn to final is always super ugly. I either turn too fast or slow and the plane just sinks like a stone or balloons like mad. Same in the tomcat. The tomcat is way harder to get on speed I find though. I keep the Speed Brake up the entire time in the Tomcat as well since I saw a video that said to do so. I have seen many many real life videos of F14's and they never have the brake up the entire time... just the turkey feathers flapping like crazy. I am glad I never got the chance to do this in real life because I tried. My god I think I would have died the first time on final. My brain just stops working.lol I see other videos where people seem to be able to keep the hornet on speed with a very controlled decent rate in the final turn and approach. I can get it on speed then the plane just wants to fall too fast since the engines seem to be very slow to respond for me which makes it so i get behind the plane. Side note: I sucked at landing in real life to. So art really does imitate life...

Yes i have two and also in Sochi. Pretty awful in both areas. PG map has some terrible areas in the main city. Then there is Nellis AFB which I think everyone gets pretty low fps on the ramp. I spawned into Sochi in a server with the F14 last night that had 15 people on it so nothing major and the fps was getting down to 20. I muscled through it and took off. After I got about 3 mile s away Fps went back to 45 since I have reprojection mode on.

Ya with the Reverb it isnt any easier. I have been pretty disappointed with the ability to see aircraft at even close in distances. It is almost as if planes get smaller. I too have flown in real life and done Air Combat USA. I never really lost sight of the other plane while doing the simulated dog-fighting. Even when we separated 2-3 miles apart for the merge, it was easy to see the other plane. I think I only lost sight of the other plane once when he went low and the dark paint masked against the dark ocean water but it was maybe for a second or two.

Photos of filed down VKB adapter on TM F/A-18C grip

I will see how it goes with the extension. I have no idea when I will get the stick right now but hopefully in the next 2 weeks. I am having all sorts of control issues in the hornet with performing proper carrier breaks and landings. Either too much or too little correction and over banking is super easy with the warthog and no resistance. The engines in the hornet seem to respond really slow for me where the Viper is super responsive. -

Ya I am looking forward to it. I just ordered the GF3 MCG Pro L and also ordered the MT Long desk mount with additional plate for my warthog stick just in case. I assume you can easily remove the 20cm extension if I want a super short throw? -

Ya that looks like a nice way to go. Is the pressure able to be increased a lot? I want to be able to have a heavier stick setting for the Tomcat since it is so easy to over stress it with a floppy light stick. I know that this is not the case in the real plane. I was lucky enough to talk to a Tomcat pilot years ago and he told me the stick gets pretty heavy at speed so going up to 10g is not easy but certainly possible, but you cant accidentally do it unless you are a gorilla. I would love to do that but I lack the time, tools, and skill set.:D -
Ya this is getting annoying now. I just want to practice carrier pattern and landings. There needs to be a way to disable this.

Huge difference in VR performance from F-16 to F/A-18
BMGZ06 replied to Notso's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Yup I have noticed the same issues with the Viper. I stopped flying it for now. I get better FPS in the Tomcat but the Hornet is still better overall. It must be the development time into the Hornet being a more settled flight model but I know the FLIR can cause issues for me sometimes with FPS in certain areas on PG map and Nevada. My rig is very similar to your so there shouldnt be much difference in performance between what we both get. -
In the market for either stick base. If you have a VKB Gunfighter mkIII stick I would need the grip and base. Also would buy Desk mounts for them.

Ya I have VR already. I am just wondering now if I should get VKB's desk mounts or Monstertech. Foxxmounts would nice but the wait is crazy long. -

Ya they should do that you are right then it would be easy to swap grips. I was going to order the GF III with F14 grip and adapter but they do not have the adapters and the NA VKB rep said he has no idea when they will get them back. I may just get the GF mkIII with the MCG grip and their desk mount for center stick with 200mm ext. I am hoping it will help me with AAR. I have only been able to get the Hornet hooked up 3 times then disconnect because i cant get the movement fine tuned enough with curves and deadzones with the TMW stick. -

This is interesting that you go thte TM grip to work since I wondered if there was a way to use it. I have the Warthog stick but I want to get a new more precise stick ad base. I am trying to decide on the VKB and which one to go with either the short or long with the MCG Pro grip since I want more buttons than the F14 grip has unless I can get the F18 grip and mount it like you did. Any advice on which to go with in terms of short or long grips and how to do this F18 grip mod would be great! I am really sick of the lack of precision on feel in the TMW stick and do not want to rip it apart and try to modify it to work better and still not be as good as the VKB or VPC bases. -
Got my new T-50 CM2 Base today... i´m a bit shocked!
BMGZ06 replied to Ganesh's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Go to Virpils forum and see that there are a lot of people with defective products and getting no response from them. I was going to order the same Base but now I am going to wait and see what they do. I saw one guy has been waiting for months to get replacement parts for his base. He has no response from them for days still. -
This is what I was looking for Thank you Sir! I was lucky enough to see one in Person back in 91 at Point Magu Airshow. Sinister in black
-
You speak the truth! I do not want to have to re engineer their product to work like it should. Hopefully I will get a Virpil base when this insanity is all over.

I have steamvr since reverbs use it. I just got a replacement reverb from BH photo but it has more SDE than my other Reverb so I am sending it back. But I used the cable from the new one on my other one that had black screen issues pop up recently and I played a few hours today with no issues. If there is a setting that causes it I have no idea what it is.

I got the Green spring finally and it honestly makes the stick less accurate and floppy. I am not getting any response from them regarding the silicone o-ring I ordered either. He said they didnt have them before the spring shipped but I emailed them last week about the oring and never heard back. Guess I should just write it off.
