Puma Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) Hey guys. I'm flying maple flag advanced flight training missions. Frequently needing to target spots relative to waypoints, but the waypoints are 8000' in the air. So when I China hat aft long I need to"slew down" in the tgp which looks easy on YouTube but I'm finding it very hard to locate my target, especially when I'm to close (<7 mi). I hate the "look and hope" approach this requires. Is there a better way? I tried tad mark point but it seemed to be up in the air too. Thanks!! Nu-NRG Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 A: Change waypoint elevation B: Start looking, when way out of target area C: Maneuver ACFT to get TGP HUD symbology over target and GS I'd go for option A any day, but all are viable depending on situation. 1 Aviate - Navigate - Communicate
cthulhu68 Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) When you slew to waypt the distance is shown inTGP screen. Quickly slew straight down until you see that distance appear again on TGP screen. Edited September 26, 2016 by cthulhu68
Moafuleum Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 you can also slew down until the diamond symbol on the tad is over the waypoint symbol.

Puma Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 Old thread, but having mastered these missions now, for the record: Nu-NRG A) is right. Adjusting waypoint elevation is very effective. Hippo Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Old thread, but having mastered these missions now, for the record: Nu-NRG A) is right. Adjusting waypoint elevation is very effective. ... is that in the mission builder, or in the cockpit? Wrench Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 It can be done either way. As someone who forgets to do it in the editor a lot, I have to do it in the cockpit pretty often. The way I usually do it is I fly with the CDU in STEER mode (displaying information on the current Stp) There's a branch page on LSK L4 That will take you to the waypoint page for the currently selected stp, and there you can change the elevation to 0. You do this by inputting 0 on the scratchpad, and pressing the LSK next to ELEVATION on LSK L2. Carrier Script.
Puma Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 I've only done it in pit as above. AvgWhiteGuy Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 @Wrench....thanks for that little tidbit of info. It's always frustrated when I forget to change it in the mission. Wrench Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Yup! I have the CDU exported to a tablet, so it's really easy that way. Carrier Script.
