Which version is now the stable one. Also how many versions are there...just 2.5 and the beta?

Which one is the most stable and how stable is it? Is it worth dl everything or just wait? And what are we waiting for? Trying to stay informed is getting to confusing.

Seems as though everyone has a solution for problems and all the solutions are different. I thought when ED released 2.5 it was going to be the golden version? Then ED will use the beta to introduce new/updates/bug fixes, new maps and modules leaving 2.5 alone until the new codes are stable and then they are move to the released stable version...2.5.

If someone would kindly answer my questions and comment on my misunderstandings, I would thank you.

Hey! Stability is in the eye of the beholder!

That word is used (Stable version) and it will not work for people having problems.

Rather than talk about stable/stability, 2.5 is live and the most up to date current version of DCS World.

And I can give you an opinion, but it's not worth the TCP packet it's written on. I do use 2.5 though and 1.5x is no longer on my hard drive.

Wait if I have been playing the beta do I just update it normally (in my case using the update tool) or do I need to download it separately from the website. Might be a stupid question but mine still says its in beta but with no updates available.

Open Beta doesn't get updated automatically to Release (Stable). You need to download the installer and install it via that.

What I did was I downloaded installer, started the download, stopped the download and cut-pasted the Open Beta directory content to new installer path with "_downloads" or something, and then launched again the new installer and it verified the content as "downloaded" and downloaded the new updates (4GB or something) and that was it.

There are only two branches now: The Stable Release branch and the Open Beta branch. The Open Alpha branch has been discontinued and doesn't exist anymore.

The Stable Release branch and the Open Beta branch are currently on the exact same version as can be seen here: http://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/

That will change when there is a new update available which usally gets pushed to the Open Beta branch first and the Stable Release branch follows usally about 1-2 weeks later if there are no issues. This is going on like that for a couple of years now.

You can have both, the Open Beta branch and the Stable Release branch installed on your machine at the same time or just one of them. That's entirely up to you and what you prefer (quicker updates or stability). If you have only one of them installed and want to switch to the other you can do so by using the updater with the respective command:

DCS_updater.exe update @release

DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta

More info about how to use them can be found here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

But keep in mind that both branches are on the same version at the moment, which means that you currently won't notice any changes when you switch between them.

I myself have only one DCS installation for several years now which I switch back and forth between the Open Beta and the Stable Release regularly. The updater makes this very easy to do.

That's a huge effort that is not necessary. Just tell the updater to switch to the Stable Release branch as explained above. It will do everything for you.
