escaner Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 I read in the manual that the N switch in the VTB can be used to select a waypoint with Bullseye coordinates. How is this selection actually done and how is it used to correlate or navigate with coordinates referenced to Bullseye? I cannot find it. Thanks! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
myHelljumper Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 I'm not sure I understand your question. To have bullseye relative TDC position you need to add a waypoint at the bullseye position, then select it with the N switch on the VTB (left side, second from the top). The selected reference point and cursor position is displayed at the bottom left corner of the screen, above the course indication. You have two rows, top is reference point (00 is your plane, 01 is waypoint 1...) and bottom is range/bearing (yes it's reversed, French stuff :D). After that I'm not sure what your asking for, can you be more precise with example ? Helljumper - M2000C Guru Helljumper's Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK3rTjezLUxPbWHvJJ3W2fA
jojo Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Like myHelljumper said, the first step is to create a waypoint with Bullseye's (BE) coordinate (lets say #09) Then to manage situational awareness: - TACAN: AA ranging with other element (63 canals apart from the other plane), read the range on IDN (HSI). - VTB: select N = BE (#09) and you can display up to 5 wpt on radar screen (select waypoint number in PREP then hit "VAL". - PCN: PREP = BE (#09), setting: D/RLT (will display range/ bearing to BE) You have to calculate (bearing - 180°) to get your position from BE, or use HSI if you don't want to do the maths... The waypoints displayed on your VTB can be part of your flight plan...or not. You can manually insert these 5 waypoints to be your area of responsibility, or "fighting area" away from SAM (inside = safe), or part of frontline...your imagination is the limit. Then the radio: you can simultaneously listen 2 frequencies. - 1 frequency for the flight - the other frequency for AWACS/ GCI/ tanker/ ATC... A pre-flight briefing and a datacard may be useful :music_whistling: Mirage fanatic ! ZHeN Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 (edited) all metioned above are the best things DCS M2K is now capable of if any of you M2K pilots don't use them or don't know how to use them, I would strongly recommend learning about them and applying in battles crucial on MP servers, as well SA is life Edited April 4, 2018 by ZHeN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
escaner Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 Thanks a lot guys. Its is just that I was reading the manual and could not understand how the "N" thingy worked out of it. I will try it later in the sim. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sarge55 Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Word. SA is vital. Too bad we can't setup up our flight in pre-flight and load a DTC with PPT's, waypoints, lines etc Perhaps something like the "the sim that shall not be named" Mind you we do have 8 minutes to set it all up... Terrificfool Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 That's what I do. While I'm aligning I finish up any flight planning and enter all of my flight plan plus a few waypoints to update the INS on my way (try to have 1 update per hour of flight-ish). While a lot of people criticize the alignment times for 'slowing' down the game, I appreciate having the dead time to plan my sortie accordingly, especially in MP where you typically have no useful briefing or flight plan whatsoever.

Yes that is VERY true :). And 8 minutes is really not that much, the Mirage 2000D go up to 30 minutes of alignment. Some more precision: Mirage 2000N/ D can make it in 8mn alignment, but they can do multiple alignments to increase the accuracy. Mirage fanatic ! Terrificfool Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 Also I think it's safe to begin the alignment after the engine is started and finish up the FBW checks / final configuration adjustment of the aircraft. If you start the alignment ASAP in the startup sequence and add some pre-flight planning it's not bad at all. Then again half the players I've run into online don't even bother truing out their altimeters to the field QNH,
jojo Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 Also I think it's safe to begin the alignment after the engine is started I don't think it makes any difference in game, but for your "culture", IRL alignment is performed before engine start up to avoid vibrations. Plus, if you start the engine before alignment, you will uselessly burn 8mn of fuel at idle power. Mirage fanatic !
