Conure Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) Okay, so.. Three days of tweaking including but not limited to: Overclocking my CPU (first time OCer! got my Core I5 760 to 3.5ghz on a small aftermarket fan and never breaks 70 under load, very happy :) ) - FPS increase is HUGE. Tweaking a CFG file endlessly Reading forum post after forum post 2 hours downloading every AI package for world of AI then installing... Spending hours installing addons Spending too much money Spending too much time defragging.... However, it was all worth it. I have 4000 pages of manuals to work through, and the end result is great...(UTX, GEX,REX, PMDG 737NGX, UK2000 Gatwick/Heathrow and WorldofAI The end result (please note that a lot of quality is lost in this image) *Will add a few more screenshots to thread soon* Edited August 22, 2011 by Conure Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.

Conure Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 Nice ... DCS level...really :D Yeah it's incredible - The only thing I miss is when you push buttons on the FMC tey don't move like on DCS...Other than that it's amazing. From what I read in the manual, it only uses FSX for visuals, the entire FM and all systems are run externally to FSX. When you load this bird the sim spends 20 seconds "initialising systems". Amazing though. You are not limited to what FSX SDK allows. I'm still tempted by 737 NGX, however I know I won't find time to learn that beast.
Conure Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 *****Updated screenshots: Please note if you have a PC similar/better than mine it will look as good/better than this at good FPS! If you need help I can explain how to make it smoother**** Completely recommend the NGX, it comes with a tutorial which has you flying within an hour or so. I've learnt a hell of a lot about aviation from this thing....If you want to learn about real civil aviation, this must be the place to start. effte Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 How's the new 737? Can you somehow hook the computer keyboard up to the FMS CDU keyboard? Drives me nuts to have to point-and-click my way through the menus, being used to the smooth interface Aerowinx PS1.3. Probably buying that come fall. Cheers, Fred Hi mate, You can indeed - if you hold down the caps lock (or is it tab? I've forgotten!) all your key presses will enter on the FMC. Much easier :) As for how it is, well...All I've done is the very basic tutorial flight (which, btw, is a 100+ page tutorial and involves about 20-30 mins on the ground, this is with a jet which is fully started up and ready to go....If you want to follow realistic procedures I can't really see this thing being ready to go in less than 45 mins). Anyway, as for how it flies, it's incredible. It adds a whole load of new sound effects, chatter etc. the FMC makes the CDU on the A10c look quite simple (perhaps it won't when I've got my head around it, though). Flight model feels very good, though of course I've never flown a 737 so I'm hardly qualified to say how accurate it is...That said, there are a fair few 737 and general airline pilots on AVSIM who testify to it. One very impressive thing is to watch the wings flex in turbulence...Looks incredibly realistic. If you're into highly realistic civilian flying I believe the 737ngx is the perfect thing to get into...Though the learning curve is vertical, PMDG have supplied a huge amount of resources to get you going.... Couple it with VATSIM and you've pretty much got a professional level simulator on your computer. bluepilot76 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 The PMDG 737 is really well done. Part of the new breed of flight simulators...DCS series is one, RoF is the other.. I had to dust off my FSX installation when I saw this PMDG 737NGX had been released. I originally found FSX horribly buggy, and gave up on it very soon after buying it.. but thanks to some good advice over at AVSIM I have got it running fairly stable. Problem with FSX is its not really a £39.99 simulator. You could throw money at it forever and still not be satisfied...You need to buy the weather, the traffic, the scenery, the airports, the airplanes, the GPS, the graphics, the trees, the rivers, the roads, the night lights. It never ends! In the end I still find myself flying around going, hmm, well, what shall I do now? The key might be to fly online, but problem is its a really big world and you might be the only one in the sky. It is quite usefull practice for IR procedures I suppose. Very nice experience, with the skies over Europe usually filled with 500 to up to 2000 pilots on the network, and easily 100 or more controllers present on various airports. An example from the yearly event (called Crowded Skies) to get as much people on the network at the same time : I took a flight from Brussels to Mallorca and had to wait 20 minutes in line for take-off, it was that busy. Then I had complete ATC-coverage down to Mallorca. Again, that's an exceptionl night, but normal nights are fun as well. Here's a screenshot from what's going on on IVAO right now, with about 700 people on the network. I've narrowed it down to Europe. The yellow symbols are human-controlled aircraft flying, the red circles are airfields with active/human ATC. The blue areas are human controlled airspaces. Hey Bengo, Hope all is good for you and the 74th Looks very interesting...Bet it takes a while to learn all those ATC communications though lol Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.

I have a feeling trying to act with live ATC whilst working out what's going on in the NG cockpit is some very intensive workload! One thing at a time, I guess. element1108 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Looks amazing, wish I had the time to invest into making FSX look this nice. A-10C is all I'm able to squeeze in now and even those days are few and far between. Maybe...ONE day! ;)
andysim Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 im looking forward to Fs2Crew for the NGX. On my other addons I use the Voice version. Let me tell you asking your F/O (copilot) to set a heading or altitude or put the landing gear down, all without having to press any button while you line up for the landing adds so much to the whole flying experiece. From take off to landing smooth and faultless.
Sappo Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I really wish FSX wasn't such a clunky, poorly programmed, horrible beast of a sim. I think out of all the hours upon hours I used to spent tweaking it and editing files I ended up with perhaps 5 hours total of happy flight time. Perhaps the next version will be more DCS worthy out of the box...?
